@freespace2dotcom: The chain of lores uncovered by researching relaxation reveals that Orsi was a Verrnin student. And while negation would be useful for exposing impostures based upon glamour, I was thinking about impostures in which no magic were involved - say, a person claiming to be a long-lost heir to a fortune.

Of course he was!

This was not the brightest question from free if I may say so !

You may be a Vernin Fanboy as much as I am Aranaz, and I understand that, but be careful, buddy. Those are fighting words.

Also, it does seem that With di Cossa and Orsi, we have two confirmed Vernin Alumni who know a lot about multiple pillars. This fascinates me.

I will admit that Vernin would be my second choice of College as an omni-disciplinarian

But Vernin is too complacent, and only a shadow of it's former self.. Maybe if they hadn't pissed off everybody with their superiority complex and decided to blot out everyone's access to the sun with their bloody towers a generation ago, maybe you'd have a point.

Haven't most of those towers either collapsed, are in the process of slowly doing that within the next century or two, or fallen into disrepair? I have to admit, while it's been a while since I played a Vernin student I don't recall there being more stories about intact towers than less intact ones.

Exactly! Vernin may have been the college to go to for decades, or even centuries ago, but today? Psh. Nothing but rubble and snobby brats led by a guy who isn't even an alumni of the college itself.

How fast the mighty fall. All that's left is the ego.

1. I have been thinking: Eliana's pacifism, adorning herself in flowers, love of nature, and piety (as represented by her in game bonus to piety)...are those tropes associated with any saints or orders of clergy in the Empire of Man?

2. Is the Fires of Creation popular because of its alleged association with Godina College with Incantors and faculty of Godina College? I wonder specifically whether Marlein Knoht would know about it for an adventure that I am completing.

3. Are there any non-Regent professors in Y1 who are formally associated with colleges?

4. So far, negation magic seems to be used in Y1 to counter other magic as well as natural forces (gravity, light, etc.). However, mention was made earlier of negation being used against claims. Is this type of negation for more advanced years at Academia?

1. Since an incanter could create a biddable snake, at least for a short while, could a Master Incanter create an artificial person, even if only with a simple intelligence, and for a short time?

2. While students changing colleges during their time at the Academagia can't be all that rare, has there ever been a student that changed colleges multiple times? And if so what was the reasoning for it?

3. What are the grooming standards of the Academagia for facial hair on young men? Does the school expect them to keep clean shaven or can they (attempt to) grow full beards if they so choose?

4. Does casting spells via using items or one-time scrolls have an effect on the aura of the person using the items? Or does that only apply to manually casting?

5. What are the main reasons theorized by historians for King Durand's choice to avoid using Gates magic back in the day? Was the magic considered dangerous even before the Exile?

6. Are there any rules against growing plants in dorm rooms? Say if you wanted to grow some plants for extra spices? Would you just be told to get better at using magic instead? Are there any long term effects for using incantation to supply spices like salt and pepper on naturally made foods?

7. Does Professor Badcrumble do fortune telling if she has a good reason to? What is involved with advanced magical fortune telling in setting? What connections are there (if any) with things associated with the traveling gypsy fortune teller?

8. Is it possible that we will ever get access to a star chart of the night sky and all the constellations in setting?

9. Are potions typically drank in setting, or can they be used like poultices? Does it depend on the effect or the brewer? And can you give some examples of variations?

10. Are you willing to divulge what professors joined Orsi in escorting you to meet Di Cossa in The Aultrine Problem? At least if there were any Y1 professors in the mix?

11,  Are brownies and fudge as illegal as chocolate cake on campus?

12. If a professor really hates your guts and decides to sabotage your grades, is there a limit to the damage that they can do? If I was ahead by a huge margin and Basia was in second place, would it still be possible to keep first place and anger both Basia and the Professor further, knowing that even foul play wasn't enough to scratch you?

13. Since some Avila boys have taken to sleeping in the hallways of Tower Eight due to crowding, I have to ask if there were any who preferred finding a storage closet and modifying that into a living space? Would there be one available if a first year preferred that? Would the staff have anything to say about that?

14. Is is possible to Enchant an Incanted item to greatly increase the duration of it's existence?

15. Has Lamert Cobo ever used "Remote Ears" or "Remote eyes" as spying tools or are those considered to be too expensive or difficult to use as a student?

16. Would it be possible to convince Professor Knoht to help a student with non-Incantation based magical studies in Y2? As she's a well-rounded Magician herself would she have any problems helping me in my omni-disciplinarian endeavors? At least if I had enough Favor to counter Briardi and Piaxenza's nagging, similar to Professor Aventyrare?

Free;

1. Since an incanter could create a biddable snake, at least for a short while, could a Master Incanter create an artificial person, even if only with a simple intelligence, and for a short time?

Yes, but the difficulty would be astronomical.

2. While students changing colleges during their time at the Academagia can't be all that rare, has there ever been a student that changed colleges multiple times? And if so what was the reasoning for it?

Learning- it does happen, and usually when a Student wishes to pursue another course of study.

3. What are the grooming standards of the Academagia for facial hair on young men? Does the school expect them to keep clean shaven or can they (attempt to) grow full beards if they so choose?

At these ages, it would be exceptional to have a standard. If it became a problem, however, the Instructors would likely demand clean shaven.

4. Does casting spells via using items or one-time scrolls have an effect on the aura of the person using the items? Or does that only apply to manually casting?

It can- but it would need to be used very frequently.

5. What are the main reasons theorized by historians for King Durand's choice to avoid using Gates magic back in the day? Was the magic considered dangerous even before the Exile?

Non-[Redacted] sources say because it was evil. :)

6. Are there any rules against growing plants in dorm rooms? Say if you wanted to grow some plants for extra spices? Would you just be told to get better at using magic instead? Are there any long term effects for using incantation to supply spices like salt and pepper on naturally made foods?

No...but you better have good Relations with your Regent. :)

7. Does Professor Badcrumble do fortune telling if she has a good reason to? What is involved with advanced magical fortune telling in setting? What connections are there (if any) with things associated with the traveling gypsy fortune teller?

She does, yes, although it's rare a Student would receive an invite.

8. Is it possible that we will ever get access to a star chart of the night sky and all the constellations in setting?

That would be cool!

9. Are potions typically drank in setting, or can they be used like poultices? Does it depend on the effect or the brewer? And can you give some examples of variations?

Both types exist, and it's a conscious choice. Some potions are even aroma based.

10. Are you willing to divulge what professors joined Orsi in escorting you to meet Di Cossa in The Aultrine Problem? At least if there were any Y1 professors in the mix?

Bahaha! [Redacted], of course!

11,  Are brownies and fudge as illegal as chocolate cake on campus?

I dare not answer.

No limit, unless of course Orsi steps in or you change College.

13. Since some Avila boys have taken to sleeping in the hallways of Tower Eight due to crowding, I have to ask if there were any who preferred finding a storage closet and modifying that into a living space? Would there be one available if a first year preferred that? Would the staff have anything to say about that?

They would certainly prefer it...if they could unseal the doors. :)

14. Is is possible to Enchant an Incanted item to greatly increase the duration of it's existence?

Theoretically yes. But it would require careful construction and such deep analysis as to make it practically impossible.

15. Has Lamert Cobo ever used "Remote Ears" or "Remote eyes" as spying tools or are those considered to be too expensive or difficult to use as a student?

You'd have to ask him. :)

No comment. :)

1. Luck is the only in-game stat that cannot be easily tied to a real mental/physical trait aside from being lucky. In-universe, however, are there are magical techniques that are used to detect people's luck or thought to be able to detect people's luck?

2. Is there a distinct patron-client relationship system in Mineta (and perhaps the Empire of Man) akin to that in the Roman Empire?

3. Are there laws restricting the use of revision magic to turn a mage into dragon?

4. Would there be punishments and/or legal actions taken against students of Academagia who research the day-to-day operation of Icanix and Kazus College? what about professors? Would the reaction change depending upon the aspect of day-to-day operation (e.g., innocuous: how large the enrollment was; slightly suspcious: who were the great students and teachers of those colleges; suspicious: how did often were Kazus College's members accused of enslaving others, and how were such complaints dealt with)?

1. Are these patron-client relationships linked at some level to lineages (so that the some of a client is expected to serve his father's patron, etc.)?

2. Are there any stories of mages using revision magic to turn into dragons during the wars against dragons?

3. By civil laws, do you mean civil lawsuits for such things as causing panic, or do you mean local criminal codes?

4. Related, how different are the criminal codes within the Empire of Man? Are extradition treaties and diplomatic immunity treaties known and used to avoid having citizens of one polity fall victim to laws of another polity?

5. Aside from using knowledge of Draconic anatomy to help with revising a target into a dragon (which I assume would be very complex magic beyond most mages), are there other reasons, practical and/or superstitious, why study of draconic and reptilian anatomy is so restricted?

Rhi;

1) Not predominantly, although generations-long retainer relationships aren't unknown.

2) No.

3) Both! :)

4) These concepts are known, but disused in the present diplomatic landscape.

5) Beyond the heretical nature of it, there are many superstitious reasons. Draconic blood also tends to be highly toxic, so there's that. :)

Ohh who can for sure tell that the dragon is not the true form of said mage. The stance of the army and mages send against this dragon, even if he turn back to a human during the fight for sure will first kill, maybe ask questions later. If it then later turn out that it was a bad joke of a mage that turned a other person in a dragon to force the army to kill said person I think this mage will be in extrem big trouble,

1.How many phemes are commonly taught at the Academagia? I know that there must be a number quite larger than that in existence, but I'm talking about ones that aren't considered so powerful as to need to keep them secret. Well known to just about anyone who practices a given pillar,

2. About how many phemes are thought to be strongly associated with each of the Legal pillars? Again not including any really rare or exotic ones.

3. Is knowledge of many phemes considered one of the marks of a wizard's power? Or is it more quality vs quantity?

1. Is it more difficult to engage in enchantments that involve negation magic?

2. Are there any who want to turn Avila into a college for those who want to go into the clergy or religious issues?

3. What would Regent Badcrumble's opinion be of turning Avila into a college for those who want to go into the clergy or religious issues?

4. Are clergy expected to be celibate?

5. When was slavery abolished in the Empire of Man?

6. It has been mentioned that some students are aristocrats but do not mention this to others. Is there any formal policy related to disclosure of aristocratic status to students? Could a professor get in trouble for revealing to the class that a student is aristocratic?

7. What is the law's approach to mages who discover spells and use them only to learn that the spells contain illegal phemes?

8. Similarly, is it legal for mages to keep a list of illegal phemes and their descriptions for avoiding using illegal phemes they may come upon during their research or detecting illegal phemes?

Rhi;

1) Not inherently, no.

2) No, although that is an acceptable outcome.

3) You'll have to ask her. :)

4) In some Orders, yes, but overall no.

5) At it's inception, although the reality of this is highly up for debate.

6) No and no.

7) They are punished as Proscribed, since you must learn the Phemes to cast the Spell.

8) Yes.

Legate, While there are probably lots of candidates for the best Legate of the Academagia, (and probably a little bit of bias exists, ha!) Who would be considered as some of the worst Legates in the Academagia's history and why did they get the notoriety?
