Pretty much every county has its own slang and pronunciation. It's fairly easy for an Englishman to identify where someone is from based on what they say. It can be as drastic as a Londoner and a Liverpudlian or be something that most people can barely distinguish.

Some example lines:

"Ey up, here comes the thunder!" (Firing)

"Quit gawping and fire!"

"You got owt or nowt Captain?" (Finishing a mission, asking if you got any drops)

"These Morgana have got no gumption about them."

"I swear I can hear Mahan chuntering about me not showing proper ediquet (can't spell to save my life)."

I've mentioned them before but USCGC Campbell and USCGC Ingham. Campbell was nicknamed queen of the sea for her extensive service record. Plus, her last transmission before sinking beneath the waves was "The Queen is dead. Long live the Queen." So I imagine her being very regal. Ingham was the most decorated Coast Guard Cutter so I would love her to embody the Coast Guard motto "Semper Paratus- Always ready" and the unofficial motto "You have to go out, you don't have to back". And both these girls served in to the 1980's so I would love to see that incorporated in some way.

If possible I would love it if the entirety of Taffy 3 (USS Johnston, USS Samuel B. Roberts, USS Hoel and USS Heermann) could get included in due to their actions at the Battle of Samar. That every single one of the ships fought with suicidal drive managing to force the IJN to break off contact thinking that they were attacking the the main (3rd) Fleet. Especially with the Johnston fighting like a maniac to defend the carriers by charging straight into the battle lines and continuing to fight on even when their engine was damaged and even when they were dead in the water. Or the Heermann who was the only one of the four ships that managed to survive the battle.

So the Johnston would have a very cavalier, gungho kinda character part of it being due to the fact that she broke battle lines and charged straight into the heart of the IJN Fleet and fought to the bitter end. But there would also be a very caring but somber kind of character due to the fact that she and and two others fought until their sinking to protect their carriers. Its like seeing a character that doesnt really properly wear their uniform and has a constant smile on their face.

While the Heermann would have more of a somber kinda character due to the fact that she was the only one in the group that survived the battle and to the end of War. To the point where she was put into the Atlantic Reserve fleet before being loaned to the Argentinians. So I can imagine her being more serious and more reserved. Considering the fact that she was one of the ships used to support the occupation for a bit it would be a mix between all black in a mourning sense and a nice crisp end of war kinda uniform.

But I think I rambled a bit too much so sorry for the wall of text guys.

Well, the captain of the Johnston promised his crew that the Johnston would never run from an enemy. I think she would have a very aggressive personality.

Hoel would be PTSD like hell. Sammy B would be a smaller Johnston, looking up to Johnston as an apprentice looks on her master.

Thanks though, for mentioning all of them. So often, I see threads on the world of warships forum saying: "Make Johnston a premium!" "Johnston fought like a battleship at Samar!"

Yeah, Johnston fought real well at Samar, but she wasn't the only one there. It's a huge pet peeve that nobody recognizes the ships of Taffy 3 as anything other than Johnston. So thank you.

And we can't forget Kalinin Bay's impressive hit, for that matter. :)

Little ways to go before we get to the tin cans, though!

It appears that we have found yet another reader of The last stand of the tin can sailors.

I have a few ideas about two ships of the Regia Marina, the two Duca degli Abruzzi-class light cruisers. They were the last and more successful light cruisers built for the Regia Marina, and they were fine ships (rather well-armed, well protected and reasonably fast); however, during the war they were kept somewhat safe, while other light cruisers were used with much less agitation.

By the way, the latter ship later became the first European missile cruiser, in 1962.

Given that the two namesakes of these ships were two bold and offensive-minded men (Luigi of Savoy, Duke of the Abruzzi, famous explorer and admiral of WWI, and Giuseppe Garibaldi, patriot and general of the Risorgimento), I'd guess they would be both eager to prove themselves, always nagging to be allowed to go forwards and meet the enemy. Both would be aggressive and with little patience, although Abruzzi would be a bit more foolhardy, while Garibaldi would be a little more sensible. They'd also be charismatic, wishing to lead by example, however not to the point of being arrogant (again, Abruzzi would be a little more obnoxious, as her namesake was royalty, while Garibaldi would be a little humbler). They would also both have a kind of sadness once all is over, as both would look behind them and give their respect to those who are no longer with them, or something like it.

Appearance-wise, the issue is pretty straightforward, I think.

Abruzzi would wear something like an Admiral's uniform, while Garibaldi would wear the general's trademark red poncho and hat!

Well, here it is.

Sorry if I'm too Italian-oriented, but I gotta be myself! :P

Wasn't Johnston just a destroyer escort? She'll be torn apart in WoWS  .

No, Johnston was a fletcher class DD, as were Hoel, and Heerman. Samuel B. Roberts, John C Butler, Dennis, and Raymond were the DEs of Taffy 3.

I've heard some accounts that it was USS White Plains that scored the world's most amazing and lucky hit on Chokai. Which has always led me to think that she'd be what you'd call a bit of a gunslinger. She'd enjoy shooting her gun even more than she likes operating her aircraft- she's constantly adjusting the sights and cleaning the weapon to ensure maximum accuracy. And she'd probably be very cool headed and calm under fire- you obviously can't make miracle shots like that without having serious concentration and focus.

Well now that you've thrown that out there, I have to respond with some of my own ideas for the Regia Marina- how about a pair kancolle tried to do but fell flat on? Roma and Littorio. Italy's finest warships, and a pair of true beauties to behold. Naturally, both of them would be very elegant and only the most beautiful of women, since the ships are so aesthetically appealing XD.

Aside from that though, Roma would reflect on the history of her namesake, the city of Rome. She'd be a big culture nut, and be very fond of the Roman Empire period of history in particular. Considering the name Roma and the fact she was built during a time when Italy was placing its bids on becoming a serious military power again, she'd look back on the days of the Empire very fondly and have a strong desire to return to such a time. In battle, I see her being very tactical and shrewd, since one of the greatest assetts the Romans are remembered for is their tactical smarts. She wants to mimic this, and use her smarts to outwit and outfight the enemy rather than merely hammering them to death with brute force.

Littorio on the other hand is much more humble and stalwart soul I think. Named after the lictor- a type of servant, she'd be loyal and obedient towards her Captain, and her comrades. Though she is a battleship, she views herself as only one element in the fleet- she doesn't see herself as more important or greater than any other ship. Since a lictor was a bearer of a fasces, it's only natural that Littorio would carry one- and understand its meaning of strength through unity. Littorio would be charming and charismatic, and use that charisma to motivate those around her by reminding them that though one ship may not win a war, combined they become a fleet that can win battles. In battle, she'd be the one putting herself on the line to protect those she fights with, making her rather bold and inspiring.

Littorio would probably wear something very ordinary and plain, whilst Roma would be decorated in full Roman regalia of some manner.

Given my lack of experience and my relative ignorance of aesthetic guidelines about these things, I cannot comment on how Kancolle handled them.

But I like your ideas.

Their personalities are fine, i guess; Roma's more tactical look is also pertinent, as her bridge was improved over those of her sisters to make for a better flagship (that's why in August 1943 she was chosen as fleet flagship).

I know these are already completed and drawn designs, but if at all possible I'd like a revision on them. Scharnhorst and Kumano suffer from the same issue. The issue is that the artist was lazy, and mirrored their ship parts, so they have the wrong amount of main gun turrets, and Kumano has the wrong number of stacks. Most of the other ships are fine, which is why it ticks me off. I know the artist can do better and it just seems lazy. You don't even have to look closely to see that the ship on each side of scharnhorst is just the bow, with two turrets, mirrored. Scharnhorst had only 3 turrets. Kumano has the same problem, but instead of the 4 turrets she was given, she should have 5.

Fifrein;

Remember that the Belle is different from the ship- Scharnhorst begins with her correct armament (unless, of course, you change it!) How the Belle portrays herself is partially up to her. In this case, her Story will reveal the reason why she has 4 to you. :)

I'll take your word for it! It'll certainly be interesting.

I suspect you'll laugh. :)

I suspect I might, but Scharn's path is not a story I will follow for a while yet once I start the game. There are plenty of ships I will follow first. Perhaps my best girls might even arrive before I get around to her, and then it will take yet longer!
