I did it!

I really did! :)

My latest playthrough:

  • Finished all critical adventures, and most of the important looking auxiliary adventures. (had to sacrifice opportunity of doing any student adventures, sadly)
  • Acquired academic domination. #1 in all classes.
  • 8+ relations with most of my teachers. 10 with Orsi, and regents Von Rupprecht, and Briardi. (and Sido, who is easy to raise)
  • 10+ in all legal pillars and my class skills, Also several other skills received attention.
  • 10 in the not so legal pillars (Tempation of Gates got me, ha! Nice addition)
  • Unlocked I think ~95% of every subskill
  • 5555 pims (a weird coincidence)
  • A score of at least 7 in all attributes. most are 8+

And I did it with perfect attendance, YEAH! Eat your heart out, Schwarzbart! ;)

This probably will not be my main save because I am unsure of really wanting to know the illegal stuff. but it is definitely a strong runner for a second place alternate run.

Edit: (04/22/16) Just adding some details since I already had it copied to the forums now.

Because its already confirmed that some teacher wont be available in year 2 I personal try to cash in the non regent / headmaster favour in year 1.

But anyway nice play trough and with Mastery 10 you managed something I never accomplished in any of my games so fare.

My focus changed with the discovery how powerful the page background is again toward level 11 SS and skills.

Yeah, This is actually the first time I managed to get both Gates and Mastery together on a serious playthrough. I've done it before, but not while trying to get everything else good. You really have to conserve timeslots. I literally finished Mastery on Kailiri 27. As perfect attendance requires you to conserve slots even further, I got to the point at the end where I was save scumming a bit, I admit. A truly monotonous task made more cumbersome by the fact that my laptop was struggling heavily to keep up after midterms. (despite meeting the recommended prereqs of the game)

I see both Perfect Attendance, and Professor Favors as something that will come in handy in future years. Just because they may not be teaching you doesn't mean that they won't be there to help if you ask a Favor. The Regents, at least are not going anywhere. And raising the skill cap to 11 generally takes too many timeslots for me to even start thinking it's a good idea. Maybe for specialists, but not me. I hit the low reaching fruit first, heh.

I also think my raising of the other skills in the game have improved by a step or two but these always vary slightly to me game by game, and as they are not my focus I tend to ignore them.

Now just imagine what you could have accomplished if only useless classes didn't hold you back. I really hope Y2 will forgive at least completely useless exam classes skipping, because come one, it's literally a waste of time.

Maybe we could have an ability that convinces our "teacher" we got a very imporant class project to work on. Real or not, it might be more interesting. Especialy if you're already more advanced that what they are teaching in the class.

Maybe they would agree to the favor if you did them a favor? You would have to do the favor, but it might save you a few timeslots.

It would likely be hard to have them agree that you don't have to attend at all.

IRL

One of my teachers actually allowed me to skip the last few weeks after I had completed all assignments and shown what I could do. I did the test and he gave me the highest grade possible.

That was a good thing for me though, because the teacher he was substituting for had told me she barely though I deserved a passing grade. I actually had her in two classes for a few months then she had to go on a surgery and was away for the rest of the year.

You can imagine how good it feelt to tell her the two substitute teachers gave me the highest grade in both her classes ;) I really don't think she liked me very much. Who your teacher is, and how well you get along really matters.

The issue with that is engine limitations, I imagine. Otherwise you could just make the exam classes not useless or remove them entirely, or at least remove the penalty for skipping them.

As for your IRL teacher, in my school that would have been grounds to have that teacher suspended. Everyone sits in class and stays there until time is up, no matter how many tens you score on tests or how useless the classes are.

Yeah, I've seen part of the results one gets when you skip lots of useless classes. This is about as good as I can do without resorting to skipping class (which is too much of a pain to consider out of exam months) or worse, save-scumming every day which I downright refuse to do. It's bad enough how often I did it in this runthrough, (probably 25-30 days) yet still I know Schwarzbart's char's are still at least 20% superior to this one by virtue of extra time. I had to sacrifice enough adventures (maybe 6 or so) to get Mastery and Gates at ten that I still think my older save is superior because, hey, I can always raise illegal skillls later but Y1 adventures are finite.

A real problem is Mastery and Gates are HUGE time gluttons. Especially when you don't use the secret heritage/Schohanwicht path for Gates, either. I waited until my attributes were built and used Selected focus to shave at least a week or two from learning them but you're still looking at lots of sucked up time if you don't skip classes

Congratulations! I tend only to get relationship with professors from adventures, Orsi and Biardi are easy 10's, others not so much.

I've never gone into Mastery, but Gates tends to get me, as you not though they are absolute time sinks.

7/8 in abilities puts you near the top of your class, beyond that I'm not sure how much you get out of them, I've had tanks get bullied by Philippe when he should surely have thought "may I'll pick on someone else..."

I suspect I'll not be able to avoid skipping class, at least during exam months, and while we have the DLC 16 bug it's irresistible for my students, I shudder to think how a Hedi play-through would go on DLC 16!

Student's who repeatedly try to bully superior students and "bullies" really should learn from their misstakes, but they seem to keep attempting it.

Maybe a failed "Bully" atempt should have a 50% chance of backfiering with them ending up having to run Bully check or get "bullied", if you pick the wrong fight then there should be a good chance it backfires on you.

  • 2 weeks later...

98% of the characters I make, I play the same way, the same name (which is my real name as these characters are just expies of myself), the same college (Aranaz rulz), everything.

It gets a bit boring not mixing it up sometimes, but it lets me really nail the playstyle and refine what I need down to the bare minimum to get what is important to me. I still have plenty of room for improvement as some adventures needed retries a few times, and I could possibly have a stronger character if I used the sphinx more instead of the library of the mantle of stars, but I like making sure I get my Astrology up and the sphinx is more for raising (and unlocking) random skills that I don't necessarily value. It's a concious roleplaying decision, but being limited by choosing perfect attendance does hurt compared to some characters...

I'm in the middle of a class skipathon-through, and am by and large scared as I only just passed midterms, still in chelmaire and already am about at 80% of what I normally get accomplished in one of my perfect attendance runs...

I think I know some of the pains here,.. I've been trying for a few runs to avoid anything and everything to do with religion, you kind of get addicited to Cleanse and Remake... or I do at least. Playing without is a bit trying but likely healthy :)

(Though some of the rolls in "standard" student adventures... *shudder*)

Yeah. I would have liked to have done Strolin's adventure but didn't have time to get past the second step. Even where I focused less on the Illegal stuff I only managed to do hers and Bonvin's. I would have liked to have done Bessa's too but student adventures are such a low priority to me.

Except maybe Rules of Engagement. Sometimes. I recently came across that adventure again and amazingy forgot what it was, it had been so long since I went for Phillipe.

Part of the problem with the oldest adventures (of which most student adventures are) is that they tend to require more timeslots and so I just can't afford to start them when I'm in Kailiri struggling to finish adventures I really need to do. Pamela's adventure is also a nasty timesink. So is Oan's but as they are both basically tutorials, (and mostly easy until their second halfs) I can forgive that.

The ideal adventure is maybe 2-3 timeslots if you do it right the first time. The cold forge is like that; step 1 is the intro, step 2 kicks ass with a puma, a tree, and an argenblat, and step 3 is the finisher.

I don't like using magic because I just can't afford the time to do spells. I only bothered with the final exams and it probably wasn't necessary but I wanted a nice safety margin. Y2 should be much better in this regard.

Oh free, if all you're doing is skipping class you have a...small number of things left to learn. Which is to say rampant Astrology to make everything work in your favour cheating manipulating thing left, right and centre. For one thing, what classes does your skipathon character have and which ones are assigned to the morning class slot?

I really changed nothing from my usual games. Except "skip class from either time period that doesn't teach me anything" Detention be damned, Although I've actually gotten pretty good luck with it. I only got reprimanded and detention once for skipping class during my very absent time in chelmaire so far. Typical that I also got reprimanded for skipping that detention on that same day despite having had no opportunity to actually attend it. (or switch my calendar to allow it, stupid professors)

My Battle familiar wizard also managed to boost Mastery to 11 on the wizard!(without any item boosts)

I haven't used it yet if I remember correctly, but it did take quite a bit of studying and research.

So, I got a Mastery wizard with a really nasty and agressive familiar! Least it has the agressive skills if needed. Gods save Mr Marchant if he messes with that bird....

Getting bullied or burnt to a crisp by a nasty little featherball probably wouldn't be good for his "cool factor" or any other reputation around school.

I only managed 10 on Mastery or Gates. Way too much time to invest in a single point, at the moment anyway.

I don't think I've managed to get beyond 10 in gates, close though, 10 in two subskills and 11 in two. One more 11 and it would be 11.

Reminds me of when I got reprimanded for trespassing at Esteban's while paying tuition. Or when I got reprimanded for trespassing while jogging around inside the Groundskeeper's Office (because of course the game doesn't have you jog on the Athletics field, that would just be silly) after two turns spend in classes that taught me absolutely nothing.

Sometimes I really wonder just what those professors are meant to teach. And how much they're paid to teach it.

Tbh, I think the professors are there to be role models for the students, to teach them to become good and responsible wizards that positively contributes to society. While at the same time they are capable of teaching students new things. But the students have to put in the effort themselves.

In a way, it's a way of controlling something as dangerous as magic and detect troublemakers early rather than having them secretly study and experiment in their homes and summon monsters every now and then when they get upset at society.

Look at it as a programming centre for young wizards. But at the same time the Libraries and magical treasures around school is a huge boon to anyone attending. It would be harder to get the same access to books and all those magical artefacts and experiences and interacting with peers who share the same interest if you didn't attend.

It's likely a boon even for wealthy, royalty/nobility with wizards in the family, because there is just so much going on at the Academy of Mineta.
