1) Yes absolutly like you use Fire magic within the city limits as it is forbiden there to my knowledge. Remember there special laws dealing with magic and its effects for each city and your not outside the regular law (like when you use your magic for theft or killing someone).

3) I think Creating Duplicats from one own is more home in the school of Glamour, I doubt you can do such a trick with incantation alone.

4) You miss one big thing here the difference betwean a non Mage and a Mage is in most cases just the education.

For 1 I mean trouble through inaction.

I know fire magic is illegal in the city that's already been discused. But I refer to instances where a mage, by doing NOTHING, can get in trouble, in certain instances. I liken this to people in real life having CPR training can in fact get in trouble if it becomes clear that they did nothing when someone needed it. To use your example say if there was a fire and a mage ran rather than use a water spell to douse it. That's an obvious one but my original question was more for lesser matters.

 

for 3 glammour might be a good illusion for it but for my requirement it has to be able to interact with its environment.

 

and with 4 A magical item made primarily for the use of non-mages would likely have been built with that in mind, no? Say a sword that electrocutes anything that touches the blade. Not hard to figure out how that works, and you might not want that on ALL THE TIME!!! thus have a mage handy to turn that feature on for battles.

It's considered worse than imprisonment. Executions are held publicly some of the time.

 

If they did find out about somewhere like the Schohanwicht School was discovered and destroyed, I'd assume they would try and track down any potential alumni, but how would they go about tracking them down? And who would be involved in the destruction of the school?

 

Most powerful mages would be involved, and they would use Negation magics to hunt the alumni.

 

What would the Academagia do with a student who sincerely believed they were, in fact, a dragon?

 

Send them home to their parents, probably. :)

 

Is there a such a thing as a ghost ship, with or without actual ghosts?

 

Yes, several legends at any rate.

 

1. Can mages get into trouble by inaction in certain circumstances?

 

Dependent on local law.

 

2. In the most recent preban era, was Mastery and/or gates usage restricted? If so, what were some of them? ie. no first years could be a part of Kasus, you needed some written permission to learn it, etc. I ask because I think that this information would be a critical piece of info on the mindset of people in the current era, even if, as you note Legate, it probably didn't work so well.....

 

No, it was unrestricted, except at higher levels.

 

3. What would the difficulty rating be on creating temporary "copies" of yourself? I'm thinking "Kage bunshin no jutsu" from Naruto...

 

It depends on how functional you wanted them to be- just illusory copies would be fairly easy. If you want them to leap around, react intelligently to the environment, and so on...much, much more difficult. :)

 

4. Given that non-mages can use artifacts so long as they're "on" I ask if there wouldn't be any armies that would have weapons and armor that would be "toggled" by a few mages before battles as opposed to something always on?

 

Sure, yeah.

 

5. What would happen if a retainer of a dragon fled/defected to Elumia? Is that even likely?

 

It's happened before. They are settled, but that taint never escapes them...

 

6. What was the critera for a preban wizard to be forbidden to take on an apprentice? I ask because even though most wizards focus on 1 pillar, I imagine that there would be more than a few notable mages in that time who were very well known for mastering let's say Incantation, but still could Gate stuff. Would said wizard be forbidden from apprenticing someone just because of that?

 

No, no-one licenses or controls Apprentices. Whether you take one on is their (and your) choice. :)

I was not suggestion revision... well it may be done with revision to some degree I suppose...

 

I was suggesting Mastery! Reanimate those suckers and then slap a glamour on it and no one will be the wiser! Clever isn't it?

 

 

Also, did I ask if the main building have a name? I went back in time to look but couldn't find it (or the answer...) so, if not, then here goes: Do the main Academagia building have a specific name? In which case, what would that be? - And is it used?

So legate, when you said that preban wizards who used now-forbidden magic, they were forbidden from using said magic (duh) and ALSO from taking on apprentices.

 

I shall extrapolate what you have just said....

 

 

From this I deduce that it would be most correct to say that said practicioners were NOT forbidden to have apprentices. Instead they were simply prohibited from training said apprentices in the forbidden arts.

 

Being forbidden to have any apprentices and being forbidden to teach them certain things is a bit of a difference. :)

Yes, well, I can certainly understand how a wizard best known for Mastering all of his oppenents in duels might be worth keeping an eye on. And if he by *cough* coincidence *cough* happened to be second best known for summoning a legion of warrior spirits to fight on his whim some people might not have the constitution to be in the same country as such a wizard.

 

 

...Nevertheless, even if you only learned average incantation from him, a bit of that reputation would rub off on you. This new revelation is quite intriguing, as now my main character has the motive to seek out such a wizard... Who would best know all those old phemes that are still technically legal....

 

Actually, legate. I have two additional questions now.

 

1. Since it is perfectly legal for a preban wizard to teach the legal arts, I cannot help but suspect that a few of the wizards at the Academagia would fall under this category. Is this possible? (Errus Viada is ESPECIALLY suspicious due to A. Being ancient, and B. Teaching a subject which is not directly magical.)

 

2. Since wizards can in fact live past 300 in this setting, does this affect aging? IE. Would a wizard who is 100 look like we would expect, or due to longer lifespan would said person look somewhat younger? Say for example 60.

Nonsense! I am sure Professor Viada has never had anything to do with the proscribed sciences. :)

It just depends on the method they have used to keep young. Such a thing is definitely possible. Hmm...could that mean...naaaaaah. :)

Legate, I didn't hear you say anything, seeing as how this is a forum and thus is pure text. Even so, as I read your response to #1, I felt a nerve being pinched, and my subconsious's text-to-speech told me that your statement is the equivalent of this.

What does it feel like when a familiar dies? How bad is it considered for a mage to kill another mage's familiar (or does it just not happen)? Would the same hold true for a non-mage?

 

Was all of this addressed in the Bat Adventure? (I'll admit that I don't think I've ever (permanently) rolled a bat familiar before.)

 

Was there any update on what the crests for Kazus and Icanyke were? What did Icanyke do to have a college named after her?

Always. :)

 

It is, for the most part, addressed in Bat.

 

I don't think there's an update on their crests, but Icanyke was most famous for Gating in entirely new emotions/thoughts, which paralyzed/drove insane whole armies.

Speaking of Gates, though, will there be an option, next year or perhaps in some later DLC to give the dangerous items to Orso? Say the book in the Bassan adventure...if playing a curious kid, interested in adventure and danger but not illegal magic, I'd like the option to gain some merit or favour from Orsi by recounting the adventure and handing the book over.

 

It would be a bit different with Diavesque since you sort of make a pact with it and without actively pursuing Gates, you have no one to give it to but an option to try to bury it even deeper would work.
