  1. @Metis has mentioned that some characters have strands of lores associated with them, and speculates that it was a scrapped mechanic to research characters. is this speculation true? And are there any plans to re-introduce a researching characters mechanic in Y2 or future years? It would be a nice way to represent in game and story PCs' growing more familiar with friends (or enemies) and could be used to unlock new options in dealing with them in adventures. I did something similar in a Y2 adventure dealing with Sima Venesico.

    Research and Bonuses

I am beginning to write an adventure named Dear Prudence. This adventure has very little to do with music or beetles, although it does have to do with Prudence Cossins. It is primarily a way for me to incorporate some fascinating lore about her into the game that was cut from Y1, so the core of the adventure is “researching [through the research action]” Prudence Cossins, which the narrative presents as talking to her. I assume that the research mechanic in Y2 will be the same as that in Y1 [viz, each research action is associated with a lore and there are possible benefits at assigned stages], but I made it more beneficial for the PC and Prudence by having each stage of research give benefits (some major, some minor) for them. The benefits would be linked to the lore, the premise being that the research was Prudence and the PC talking about Prudence and both gaining benefit from their talks. So I have two questions. 1. Would this type of structure be possible in Y2, or are the Y2 research mechanics so different from Y1’s that it would not work? 2. Similarly, would it be possible, even in Y1’s research mechanics, to have each level of research assign a bonus in addition to a piece of lore?
  3. According to a daily report I gained the Research Revision Spells skill, it's also in the actions tab, but when I check all of my actions in the calendar it doesn't, so I can't use it (my Revision is 6). It's not greyed out, so why do I seem to have it but can't select it? Edit: This was supposed to be in the support forum.

    Research and Skill Maximums

One of the benefits of Researching topics to level 10 is often an increase in their skill maximums. But another way of gaining a higher skill maximum is through Favors from Professors. In Y1, the result of these 2 actions is equal: the character gains a higher skill maximum. But in Y2, research will be more important. So when creating characters in Y1 with Y2 in mind, would it not be better, if we want our characters to have higher skill maximums, to focus on researching topics rather than on save-scumming to try to get the right favor from a professor? Finally, although I said that this thread was not a complaint about the research mechanism, I hope that there will be a way to make research more efficient in Y2: some way to gain a research level and a skill step or multiple research levels per action, or something like that. Will this happen?
  5. As the title asks. Will this have Y2 rewards? Also, must one be the top scorer in the exams to get any in-game reward, or is it sufficient to be near the top? And will there be rewards for each course so excelled in, or is it only for overall performance?
  6. I loaded another successful completed game to experiment with the effects of extreme skill training after Kaliri, as a way to test run ideas for Y2. This character had achieved straight 10s in all four subskills of Synchronicity. Furthermore, the events of the game until the end of Kaliri had granted the Player character the ability to research Synchronicity, Empathy, Instinct, and Mental Bridging. During my playing beyond Kaliri, I researched all four of these topics to 10. Yet judging by the Day’s log, only one of those topics provided a benefit upon being researched to 10 - Instinct provided a +1 Insight bonus. I am not sure whether the results of these research actions was affected by being after Kaliri. I attach my save file for research purposes. This situation leaves me with the following questions. 1. what were the intended benefits to researching Synchronicity, Empathy, and Mental Bridging to 10? 2. How does one gain the ability to research Serenity? 3. will Research levels acquired in Y1 be imported over into Y2 even when they are below 10 so that players will have to use fewer time slots to research a topic to 10? Possible bug with Skill Maximums

I have a very complicated situation that I want to explain that may contain one or possibly two bugs. Then I will state a more simple issue that I have read about but not encountered. Finally, I will ask a question. The situation: In my most recent playthrough, I was playing as an Academic over-achiever. Accordingly, my character researched Famous Dilemmas to Level 10, and then, having in this way gained an increased Famous Dilemmas level, trained Famous Dilemmas to Level 11. Then I used a Level 10 Favor with Professor Sido, which was revealed to be an increase in the maximum of the Famous Dilemmas Skill, which I then trained up to 12. A 12 in Y1 as a base skill may be over-powered, but I thought it fair enough - my character had invested research and favor to get these extraordinary benefits, and even the Everard Equation requires difficult skill checks with a Marat Deck in order to reach Level 13. I upload my save game to show that I tell the truth. But then there was a problem with this understanding of mine. I loaded my most successful completed game to experiment with the effects of extreme skill training after Kaliri, as a way to test run ideas for Y2. Now this character had been created as a Negation prodigy, as a result of which the Theory of Negation skill level maximum was preset at 11. During my playing beyond Kaliri, I researched Theory of Negation to 10 - reward being an increase in the Theory of Negation. Yet i was unable to train my Theory of Negation at all - it was capped, it seemed, at 11. I am not sure whether this was affected by being after Kaliri. In sum, there is an inconsistency in whether it is possible to achieve skill levels of 12 or higher. Maybe it is a bug. If there is no desire to allow PCs in Y1 to have skill level maximums (aside from Everard Equation) higher than 11, perhaps the game could inform players in the day's events log some thing along the lines of "You tried to raise you skill level maximum higher, but have already reached your maximum." A similar message is given for study levels and skill level training. Now for the simpler issue: the wiki claims that researching The Minds of Men is bugged, and suggests that “(+1 Anthropology skill max intended?)”. I have not researched the Mind of Men, but the Wiki also claims that researching Anthropology yields +1 Anthropology skill max. Finally, my question: When Y2 is released, I presume that Skill levels of 12 and above will have their own distinctive benefits. Could these benefits be imported backwards into Y1 through a patch? 8. Over the past few days, I've been trying to create a mod that adds the research action to a few other abilities, but I can't seem to get it to work. I've attached a 'Research: Random Topic' to some Library Study abilities, and while those appear on the daily actions menu, they don't seem to actually provide any benefit. I also attached a 'Research: Choice of Topic' to Study at the Library of Longshade, and the choice didn't appear at all. To hedge my bets, I also created a new action called 'Research, but better' that gives you choice of topic researched, a random topic researched, and a selected topic researched, but that didn't even appear in the actions list. This occurs even when running just the mod with no DLC. Anyone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong and how I can fix it?
