A few in game questions

@Legate of Mineta: 1. Did the destruction of Monteon lead to any reconsideration of decline in merit-based posts?

2. Does the paucity of merit-based posts mean that non-aristocratic graduates of Academagia, even if otherwise fully qualified, are not likely to be able to find positions in government in Mineta beyond the very junior?

3. Would a PC who is descended from royalty and aristocratic be higher in the social hierarchy than a PC merely aristocratic? Not that I am expecting any PC to be the equal in prestige of, for example, Durand the Student or Fleur.

1) It's fair to say that the students are much more sheltered from Guard interference by Orso and the school than they probably realize. Magic use certainly isn't illegal in Mineta, with the obvious caveats, but it's also fair to say that it's not easy for kids who don't have access to the Academagia's libraries and expertise to learn large numbers of Phemes - even if they know what they're doing. If a kid without Academy affiliation is spotted around town casting more than one or two simple spells, either the Guards or representatives of the Academy (possibly even older students) will conduct behind-the-scenes investigations, and figure out if the child is tutored, or sitting on an old library, or just preternaturally gifted. If, along they way, they determine there's real danger to the community, the state, or whatever... well, disturbing the peace laws can be applied creatively.

Often, though, they get hired into the Guard - or, if of an appropriate age - brought into the Academagia or another, more specialized, magical academy. [Redacted] might actually fall into one or more of those categories in later years. :)

4. What if the young magic-user had, without knowing it, casted a gates or mastery spell after having learned about phemes from a forgotten cache of knowledge? Execution? Or re-education and destruction of the cache?

It would depend entirely on how public the spell was, and whether it can be covered up. Odds are a first mistake for a student would be pretty lenient as long as the student in question didn''t Gate a Mastered Dragon into the Imperial palace. That would be bad.

No, not particularly.

That is likely to be true, yes, although the City of Mineta (like many of the Republics) tends to be a little more egalitarian than elsewhere....if you are wealthy. :)

I'm not sure. It seems likely, though.

4. What Free said!

1) Is the fan from Miya a weapon, a wand or maybe even both? (Having steel ribs with sharp pointy ends inside could make it a weapon while a wand could easy be build in at the left or right end of the fan. )

2) Are hand fan currently out of fashion in the Academagia setting? (I suspect when they where currently fashionable nearly all girls from Avila would use one)
