Rhialto
1. Is astrology ever used to eliminate or accept certain candidates for jobs? 2. Astrology has a low reputation among the legal pillars of magic, to the extent that there is at least 1 person who doubts that it is real. Are there other people who, mistrustful of astrology, have come up with alternative schemes to interpret stars' influence, etc. (rather like the division between Greek and Indian astrologies)? 3. Since humans are said to be superior to dragons in being able to comprehend and use astrology, is denial of astrology's effectiveness a heresy? 4. Are there any mages who are so focused upon astrology that they have no ability what-so-ever to use magic to directly affect the world? Legate of Mineta
Rhi; 1) Not legally... 2) Certainly, although they aren't taught at the Academagia. 3) No, as long as it's unquestioned that humans are superior to dragons in whatever ability it ends up being. 4) Yes. Schwarzbart
1) But magic schools that also teach astrology can use "divination" to find suitable students.
Legate of Mineta
S; 1) Legally, there is a subtle distinction between divination and it's use to manipulate destiny. Suffice to say that magical universities are deemed sufficiently wise guardians of the use of magic...less so, other entities.
Rhialto
@Legate of Mineta: By using astrology to sort job applications, I mean nothing more than, for example, refusing to hire people whose birth signs are X. Would this be permitted?
Legate of Mineta
Rhi; Oh, sure.
Schwarzbart
1) is it known that some old mages decided to stop extending their lives because they no longer can bear to see all their friends and family perish? 2) Do you ever make a difference between current believe and fact? (Wondering because I asked on the last page what the current believe about wellspring is and you put it to redacted ^^)
Legate of Mineta
S; 1) Depression can spell the end of many long-lived mages. 2) Yes, sometimes- if you want to know current belief, it's thought that it is not Gates, but rather some kind of Incantation-Revision hybrid, or unknown Dragon magics, or even some type of Astrological blessing...;)
freespace2dotcom
Who is the current (acknowledged) oldest living mage, and is this person still active, or living like a hermit?
Rhialto
If a magical researcher were to discover a new type of magic and it were to be discovered to be draconic magic that would not be Gates magic or Mastery Magic, would studying such magic be illegal? Or is draconic magic legal to study so long as it is not Gates/Mastery related (and does not run the risk of destroying things that should not be destroyed)? Legate of Mineta
Free; I think I know, but I better ask. Rhi; It would not, since all magic except Astrology is Draconic in origin.
Rhialto
Has there ever been a regent who studied in one college and later became a regent for the college's rival?
Legate of Mineta
For the Rival? HmmmmmmMMMMM. I will ask.
Schwarzbart
1) What school(s) beside Esteban Contu's School offer education for adults that somehow managed to earn enough money but never got a magic education as child?
Legate of Mineta
S; There are several, some more legitimate than others. I think some will be revealed in Y2, but there isn't a comprehensive catalog of them, since they tend to come and go.
Schwarzbart
1) Will we get items like wands that have a skill requirement to use them in year 2 or a later year?
Legate of Mineta
Schwarzbart; I don't think there are skill requirements for items- but to use their Abilities, yes.
Schwarzbart
I was just wondering if there wands that only work for few people and add a skill requirement to the wand it self or all its ability would be one way to make such wands.
Legate of Mineta
Schwarzbart; I don't think there is a way to control access to Items that way (although it's a neat idea)- just the Abilities.
Metis
There isn't? So that's a Y1 feature that got removed in Y2?
Rhialto
@Legate of Mineta: 1. Is the spell encoded within the song "the Tale of Sir William Hopkins" very rare? 2. Are there scholars who study mages in remote regions in order to see what traditions/superstitions they have developed about magic, as well as any innovative spells that they have developed?
Legate of Mineta
Rhi; 1) Fairly Uncommon, I believe. 2) Not in the sense that it's an organized effort- but certainly mages are always interested in the work of others, if they are willing to share... Schwarzbart
1) Are wand that are used for long time by the same person forming something like a bond?
Legate of Mineta
S; A connection can be formed through frequent, long-term use, yes.
Schwarzbart
1) Is it planed that we see this effect to our wand over the 5 years? (I just suspect that we player will change our wands to many times that it come into effect) 2) Does this connection to a wand affect a new owner if the wand change hands (legal or illegal)?
