Officer Candidate School Accelerated Course (pre-lim)

Well, as those on reddit know, I've started work on a community project with a couple others including, but not limited to, Waltzcarer & GarandMarine. Garand and I have been hammering out the outlines and scripts for a couple episodes now and I'm also looking into getting real world images and videos. I know on the Kickstarter you guys seemed interested in the project but we still wanted to get official thumbs up as well as permission to use Belles to help Promote the game within the works themselves as this is being done to help prepare new players and spark interest in real world history. The current episode outline is as follows.

Ep 1- Basics of terms

Ep 2- Ship types

Ep 3- Basics of Real Naval strategy

Ep 4- Basics of VB Naval Strategy using prior knowledge

Ep 5- Real world Geopolitical situation as of 1939 and how it pertains to VB

Ep 6- VB countries and your place within. Morganas. Know thy Enemy

Ep 7- "Optional Episode" Stories and Anecdotes from early World War 2 Naval Veterans.

We'd -LOVE- to have your support in some fashion, even if just a thumbs up. One thing Garand and I agreed on that would be super neat is if for episode four if we could have Mahan make a guest appearance explaining a bit more about VB gameplay. This of course, is completely up to your discretion.

We're planning to have the episodes follow a similar format to Extra History Teach me Miss Litchi and the Mahan / Boise interview with chibi Garand as the Admiral and chibi Nel as the fledgling Captain.

The rest of the community here, if you want to help in someway send me a PM! if you just wanna show some support, feel free to comment with ideas, suggestions or alternatives!

Edit: The biggest assistance we could use right now is an artist willing to do some quick art chibis with different expressions for us.

Is it basics of terms of real-life naval combat, or of the game? Is this going to focus more on being a tutorial for the game or a historical storytelling and research show?

+1 for this so far

A bit of both. The terms is going to go over things like nauts and the like. General terms that naval veterans and sea game vets most likely know inside out but those coming in fresh will have zero clue.

Hell, why not get a few audio clips from the members here about some topics or what not, ya know? :D

Perhaps, but at the same time I want to keep audio support to a limited number of people. no offence to anyone but Quality Control and Speed. Less people doing voices means less people I need to track down per episode.

TwoHeavens aka GarandMarine here. I'm an amateur historian and an expert on the Pacific in particular, I'm a Marine from a family of the same, so it's more or less a lot of my family's personal history, as well as personally finding the conflict itself fascinating. I've also written a paper or two on the Battle of the North Altantic, the pivotal naval battle of the European Theater of Operations (That lasted for bloody ever. Nearly the whole length of the war!)

As far as tactics goes, we're doing two episodes specifically to talk about real naval warfare, both in theory, and in practice as of the Second World War. For the Victory Belles one, it'll depend on if Black Chicken is helping or not, but we do have access to the combat system they're basing the VB system on, as well as their flow of combat schematic, That leaves us with some salient points to discuss, and make comparisons to real world naval warfare on. The VB combat system and the Nations episodes are the ones where in a perfect, ideal universe I'd love to have Mahan or another Belle pop up, perhaps with some extra intelligence to disseminate to officer candidates undergoing the course..

I'm also open to suggestions, ladies, gentlemen and others. Is there another episode we could do? Or something we absolutely need to cover in one of our eps you don't want us to miss?

I would love to help. As a currently studying history major, with my specialty being the World Wars, I can probably make a pretty good outline for you guys for episode 5. If there's any other way I can help, let me know. PM me if you want me to help.

Sure! that would be great. If you'd love to do that we'd appreciate it quite a bit. Don't embellish too much on any one side but do try to cover at least all the countries involved with Victory Belles.

I'm not sure how well I'd be able to get the situation for the smaller side countries, but all the BIG 7 as I like to call them, I can do. That's France, Germany, Britain, Japan, Italy, The USA, and the USSR.

That works, if you can though, please throw in Canada too. :)

I've managed to acquire some proper doctrinal documents from ~1940 that I can donate for research help. It's only the US and IJN, but it will go some way towards explaining pacific war tactics.

Wonderful, if you can pass them to TwoHeavens here we'll make use of them where we can. :D

As I said on Reddit, I'm pretty much useless.

So I'll just watch it when it comes out :P

The only way I can probably help is video editing but I think Nel should be much better at it than me.

Talking/narrating? I don't think I'll be very good either(as apparent if any of you've seen any of my videos :P *shameless plug*)

I can offer the resource of my papa's 600 sq foot military history library. He's been collecting Naval Institute Press tomes (among other goodies) since the late 60's and had to build an addition to the house to hold them all.

For those interested he professionally writes military science fiction. Mike Shepherd and the Kris Longknife series published by Ace. Can be found on the shelves at Barnes and Noble everywhere. :)

That is going to be incredibly interesting to check out.

Unfortunately I can no longer guarantee I can pull people in from WoWs to help out with content. I'll keep trying but it seems we have help in regards to that. On the other hand, I can throw in some help in regards to anything not technical.

No worries, you tried and that's more than enough. As it shows here we have more than enough support within our own community as well.

AH! The Kris Longknife series!? Holy crap! I'm also incredibly jealous of your dad's collection. I always think I have a decent amount of books, then realize I don't have nearly enough.
