A few in game questions

Freespace;

 

1) Phemes are indeed 3D, and they are definitely difficult to draw- this is one of the reasons why Finesse and Fitness appear in casting. Likewise, Palettes are also 3D and roughly spherical, depending on the Border.

 

2) Only Gates/Mastery/Negation masters could answer this definitively; all is speculation. ;)

 

3) There is a certain Event that can tell you more...

 

4) Beyond your Mentor and Office Hours, there are no official conduits for learning. Some Students offer tutoring services, though.

5. Obviously dragons vary in size and power and all that, but say that a single mage, at lets say Orsi's level has to fend one off. What would be the best strategy? Would there be any hope at all to stall it and at least run away after buying civilians some time to flee?

 

Historically, some mages have been the equal of Dragons and their magic, but only after they were able to match either their mobility or their strength. The Wall, in particular, was built to render the former advantage null. As a rule, Dragons are not very interested in slaying civilians. Most rather prefer the terror...;)

Definately taking advanced negation...

 

1. I understand that there will always be room for learning more advanced topics, but would you say that at about year 3, our characters should have a good enough foundation to be capable of looking up info on a topic without worrying about it being too advanced? (I understand that the Player Charater is not a god and even at year 5 there will be things above a PC's head. I'm talking generally speaking.)

 

2. Can magic be used to enclose an area off? Kind of like a pure magic prison. Nothing can get in or out. Not just magical devices to discourage leaving, but a physical, transparent barrier.

 

3. How common are slings? (and slingshots, too, while I'm asking)

 

4. Since I assume most students go home for summer vacation. What does the Academagia do in the interim?

 

5. Will there be a way to merge cliques, or will you always have to break up one first and aquire the individual students seperately?

 

6. Von Rupprecht told me not to open a certain chest one time. With that being said as soon as he left I opened it, and shortly after got detention. I see this as supposed to be a test of some sort. Do professors do that sort of thing, Or is he just a little sentimental or something?

 

7. Will we get a chance to see another combat simulator scenario? That was probably my favorite adventure yet.

 

8. I understand the upperclassmen being a pain to introduce, but regarding the merit prizes, it really does feel as though the year one students are the only ones participating. It's my understanding that there's one per college, and that includes all years combined so it's a little awkward. In year two will there at least be some changes to the merit system to reflect the larger school population, even if only saying that some other year student raised it.

 

9. No hate or anything, but when year 4 comes around, there won't be many upperclassmen left. Will there be underclassmen added too?

 

10. Just throwing this out there, but since there are ghosts, and presumably a few of them have been around for a while, if one of these ghosts on campus is discovered to have been a powerful Gates/Mastery Wizard, what would be the school's reaction to this? And would such a ghost be compelled to reveal any students he/she had under truth magic like a living person would?

I'm not sure, to be honest. I imagine that there will always be things which are too advanced in any given Year.

Yes, although it's difficult to keep that kind of thing around for too long.

Apart from a child's toy, very rare.

Research, mostly.

There won't be a way to merge Cliques as you know them, but it may be easier to acquire a specific Student.

Ah, von Rupprecht. I imagine that some of the other Instructors test their Students, too...but perhaps not as frequently as he. :)

I believe the answer to that is 100% yes. :)

No; it's likely to remain only your year participating. This may change later, but...

We'd do play to add both upper and lower classmen at some point, but I can't say when. Certainly not in Year 2, though.

A great question! Strangely, there don't seem to be any ghosts which are obviously Gates/Mastery practitioners...why would that be? :)

On 10, My money's on the fact that if they revealed themselves, they'd have no choice but to take over the school, and defending it from all those fleshy things would get annoying after a while.

Especially one that has the unbridled knowledge of the ancients. Good luck cloistering that one.

 

I imagine that such a ghost would be extremely hermitic and not at all interested in anything going on in the current era, I would like to think that such a ghost wouldn't care about any silly bans and would be a nightmare for anyone foolish enough to interfere with such research.

1) What collage(s) are Phillipe's two brothers in?

4) Any word on what students in the first year have familars that can talk (to others besides their owner)? The only ones coming to mind immediately are Flore's and Llaria's (possibly), but I'm guessing there's more than that.

Story has it that Tulia's turtle speaks once every year or two - it's unconfirmed, but he does seem to have ways of getting very specific information across.

 

Honors very patiently talks to her lizard to soothe her (the lizard's) nerves, and the lizard is straining to be able to reply; she can even get out a few recognizable words if you listen very closely.

 

Courtenay de Surval's hedgehog can speak to him, but never to anyone else - it's not clear whether that's magic or shyness.

 

Asmita swears her snake teases her, but that may just be by body language.

 

Gwendy's owl talks (but only after dark). [Convention holds that any owl that's earned the title "Minister" can speak in certain circumstances, incidentally.]

 

Zorzi's owl isn't a "Minister," because of youth or defects in character, but he does talk.

 

Jere's rabbit can talk, but that's often really unpleasant to hear.

 

Nobody has ever heard Hector's owl speak, but just about everyone assumes he can. Possibly only in languages that have been dead for centuries, though.

 

Olivia has a way of communicating with her ferret that allows for a lot of detailed Cyrus-based information to pass back and forth, but it may well be sign language."

 

5) As for the player character, which of their familiars can speak? The sprite, shade and doll, obviously, but I am I missing something else obvious?

Haha. I would never play a Morvidus character just because of Storey. It's that smile. It PERFECTLY captures what he is. My complements to the character artist(s) because that picture of him just screams "stay away from that one"

All right. My first Pebbles adventure is about 80% done. All I really need to do is finish the current step and a final closing "expository step" I'm pretty happy with it, although it might be a little too short. (Irony, since the text file I'm working on is already almost 27KB long. And no, I don't use word procesors, that's all text!) I've only done a little bit a day, but I got my inspiration again so I'm really cooking now. :)

 

1. I'm not well versed in the setting's military history lore. Are there any good stories of an army that was badly outnumbered and lost? I need to make a comparison.

 

2. What should a mage do if he has to single-handedly fend off 20 or so other mages (and their familiars) who are after an object of Great Importance that he holds? I'm asking if there are any spells most suited to this sort of situation? This is not really a life-and-death situation, but I'm trying to play it as being as serious as I can.

 

3. Most rocks are not magnetic, and since pims are copper, neither are they. Is there an easy revision spell that can remedy that? Or do something similar? (must be usable while fending off said mages)

 

4. Actually, it just occured to me. This is supposed to be a somewhat-loosely observed class activity that a single professor is running. If this situation devolves into a nasty spell free-for-all, What would be the consequences for that behavior and what would need to be done to avoid drawing attention to that?

There's a Lore about Tombs-les-Pierres which you may find interesting to hunt down. :)

This depends on the mage, and the mages he is opposing. All of the Pillars have their various strengths and weaknesses.

Yes, Revision can make things magnetic. :)

Undoubtedly there would be Reprimands all around, and possibly the Professor would be disciplined...which, no doubt, would trickle downwards. As to avoid drawing attention, holding this activity in a distant, out of the way place might do the trick. :)

Depends entirely on the mage's preference! :)

It may be a stupid question, but how does people know when/how/where/what to send to apply to the academagia? Word of mouth? Pure reputation? Some fliers at the more fancy restrooms in the better part of the big cities? Also, if you had a really bright kid and wanted him to be a mage, but were in the unfortunate situation to live on a floating rock in the middle of no-where, how would you proceed to find the best place to ship your kid off to? ;)

By reputation. Most of the Students of the Academagia are among the wealthy, and these things are well known in those circles. Traveler's tales, religion, alumni, and legend all play their part, though- the Academagia is famous throughout the Empire's history, and many tales feature Academagia mages. If you were on a rock in the middle of nowhere, it's doubtful you'd know of any schools at all- you'd have to ask the nearest mage, or perhaps a traveler. ;)
