  1. So I was rewatching Hocus Pocus (...slow day at the office) and some questions came up.


    Diavesque...is he written on? Spells and the like? Just blank pages or a mouth where words should be? What would be written on him? (if the answer is too spoilerish, a vague answer like 'spells' or 'pictures' would do). Does he find you the things you need like a personal Google service? Can he change the words that are written on him? Can he pretend to be a completely normal book if the PC commands it? Would he be reaaally annoyed if the PC would bend the corner of his book or write on him? Can he feel that? Does it look like an evil book, made of patched skin or with evil drawings on it or a simple book that just knows Gates?

    In another note, you guys hear that Larian put its games on GOG? Awesome.


    As for what happened to Maxis, Leoshi, the same thing that happens to everything EA touches. I'm talking about it like it's a Prototype virus, but do you guys know any franchise or title that EA hasn't milked to its death? I stopped for a few minutes to consider it and didn't come up with anything.


    Mikka, read this interview if you got the time. MCA talks about the KotOR ending, which is interesting to see. He also talks about his newer games and older ones. I would personally love another Alpha Protocol...I adored the last one. Played through it four or five times. Not even for the role-playing, just for the awesome characters and plot. It does feel like you're the big bad spy.


    We should get a list of available liquor to give our kids. And hey, if Antonio doesn't drink beer, he can always go with ale.

    And Cuàn is not-Irish, so I expect the drink he would like best is lots.


    One way for Cat to appreciate what she has is ...if she doesn't have it anymore: kidnapped, ran off, lost or trapped. She'd probably look for him right? Would she try to save him?


    What I'd like to see...it really depends on Y2 and what adventures we can have at home and what would be appropriate. They should gravitate towards like-minded characters if the PC doesn't draw them into a clique. How would they respond towards the college rivalry since this is going to be a focus? Would they argue amongst themselves for the colleges?

  3. I drink everything except beer and fruity stuff. That includes cocktails, flavored vodka and punch. It doesn't include orange and gin/vodka, jello shots, vodka gummy bears or alcoholised sour cherries. My favourite drink would be scotch or dry red wine. I've also drank absinthe - my younger self spent the nights in bars despite age restrictions - and very nearly choked on it. It's a drink you should get eased into.


    We can still guess, I suspect, and then compare to what their older selves would drink. I'm guessing Carmine is a single malt kind of dude. Most of Godina would be beer. Except for Silke - she'll probably get something colourful like a Cosmo. Reitz is also a scotch dude, but less smoky. He secretly enjoys Bailey's. And Avila doesn't drink.


    Glad the ants are dying. Or at least leaving your kitchen.


    Yeah, it was LucasArt wasn't it? They messed with Obsi and the game quite I lot from what I remember. Sort of like Activision and Vamps....but at least they patched the game. Comparing the game industry with the crash of the '80s is an interesting view. Not sure if applicable now considering how much of a shit storm it would result in.

    AAA games are still a budding industry, more in its teenage years than nothing else and still trying to find its centre. Movies had the benefit of theatre beforehand and neither that or books translate that well into games. I think it's turned too much into an industry and really quite early. Millions of dollars into a single game and having to sell to millions of people to get it back is unrealistic. I can understand EA and Activision and Ubisoft in some form...but they are really pushing people's buttons.


    Non-standard is good. I don't think you have reason to worry about Aaran. Louise should be interesting to see, considering the fact that she's so unhappy everywhere. I'm curious about her adventure since it adds depth, but so far with the characters I've played, none are into the misanthropic cliques. I might make a character particularly for her and they could hate Academagia together.


    That sounds like a sad familiar story for Cat. Will they get closer in later years? I always pity the familiars that get left behind. I never do the adventures either.

  4. Oh, congrats. Here's to inspiration. Wine actually helps me better than spirits. Marshmallow vodka? Never tried. I once had orange one, but I prefer it straight and dry.


    I don't remember the news, it was a couple of months back and I remember it because I thought that with South Park and Project Eternity and everything, another game is a bad idea. But yes, the possibility of a Star Wars game had been talked about. I played about a year and a half after release. A friend did the whole reconstruction, he didn't play or make that particular mod and only did it because he wanted to redo the whole games with textures, models, etc. The thing is, I don't think it had THAT bad a reputation. Yes, the ending was a bit left to the wind but a lot of people prefer it to the first, simply because it's a lot more interesting and better made. Their rep in general is very good games with bad QA and not enough time to finish everything. My hat is off to them for learning a new engine every time they make a game because I know from experience that it's not easy.


    Playing Sith was fun. Of course, I had to resume to being human and had a lot of restrictions from play, which were more irritating than appealing at me to buy. I was dark for the whole way. Then again, that's how I play most games.


    In Fable 3, I played an accountant. Damn them and their monsters, I want to spend my money on a house, then up the rent, buy another house, up the rent..etc..I was playing Real Estate Tycoon. By the end of the game, I could barely walk around my endless pile of money.


    I think Bio got caught in the Peter Molyneux effect. I was just reading an interview (on Rock Paper Shotgun) in which they start setting unrealistic expectations and start saying, "well our last game had problems but NOW WE'RE CHANGING-" which was cute on Molyneux but not so much on a franchise that had a bit more time to refine their RPGs. I mean, outside of their very first game, that's all they did. You'd think they'd have the formula. He also addressed archetypes and that it's not wrong to follow them. In my opinion, it is if you're using them for every single game...


    The games that step away from their comfort zones, ME3 and DA2 were both full of fan outrage. So...that's not a good sign. Of course, ME3's end was more controversial than the rest of the game but the end result is sort of undisputable.


    You're a lot harsher on your work than we might be. And seeing what I saw, I think the guys will fit. I can't wait to play Aaran's adventure.


    Ermete is also the creator of hermeticism, so that is a very special ferret. You could give it the name of an in-universe god or royal. Of course, another Durand would make it confusing, but depending on preference, there has to be one Saint she likes more than others.

    I never have any idea of what I'll name my clique so any name is good...but yeah, stuck up. What are the rest of the clique names?

  5. All I can say is the usual, I suppose. Get your inspiration from wherever you think works best. Sometimes it's best to stop, sit down with absolutely nothing to do and no sounds around, get a glass of wine and collect your thoughts.


    I think Obsi was thinking of KotOR3? They want to do another Star Wars game but with the move to Disney, I don't know. Either way, it's gone.

    I played Sith Inquisitor, and I can't remember the level, which is odd because I can remember the level for the Witcher or NWN1 playthroughs even if they were some time back.


    Kaiden was...well just a bit too mellow. Does that sound right? He was just..'meh' towards a lot of stuff. I don't think I hate the voice actor specifically. I only know him as Carth, Kaiden and Jimini Cricket from Once Upon a Time. In all of them he is so...calm! And there are moments were I think Ashley reacted better simply because she flipped out. Because I would have definitely punched someone. Maybe he was too good to be true. And that was ...strange.


    I played through all of the Fables and while 1 was playable for me with a casual story that didn't try too hard, the rest were murder. Kingdom of Amalur. Yes, it was better. The reason I'm asking is because I was sort of debating sudden characters that were so much more hated than the real villain. And I hated Reaver like that. He was a forced 'party member' in 2. Just...serious will to kill him. Liked your brother in 3. Thought he was a very bad accountant though. Very bad. So many years of oppression and so little cash. I was already rich and bathing into my own gold room.


    I hate my own work too. I think it's the whole self-criticism thing. I just write, dump it for a few days and go back to it. If it's hopeless, I just rewrite. If not, I edit. I'd wait for us to play though :P


    The names sound interesting. And yeah, Corey does work both ways.


    Why Ermete? I'm not sure on Eulalia (I know she was a saint) but isn't Ermete simply Hermes? At least what I knew of it outside of the Hellenistic plays. I want that ferret now...

  6. It's better to write a lot and then edit, but frustrating. I once wrote a chapter for this thing five times before actually starting properly. You ever get that scene in your head that is so perfect? Characterization, dialogue, description, plot, the works? And then..you have no idea how to go to it and from it so you write something and it ends just 'blah', so you delete everything? I hate that.


    I would have preferred TOR to be single-player. Now, I did only play the free version but I think that with a bit a polish and more work on it, the game would have been a hit as an RPG and all the different paths. I know a lot of people who would have loved the game. It just wasn't MMO material. After finishing the main quest, did you even have a purpose? Because I tuned out and can't remember much afterwards.


    ME was a step forward, but it still followed the same formula. I forgot that there wasn't a Bitch there, though some people would say Ashley is it. I liked Ashley in the sense that I felt she was the sane man in the ship, a lot more than Kaiden. I haven't played the game in some time, but I have a bone to pick with the guy for unknown reasons. It's the voice, man. Either way, the setting was different but much of it was pretty clichéd and I got Stargate: SG-1/Atlantis flashbacks. And while the gameplay was ..the gameplay, they were trying to cash in on the Call of Duty/Halo crowd (not my words, I think I've read one of the Bio crew say something about FPSs/TPSs and sales but can't find it now).

    One example that just came to me on similarities (I'm helping a mate review Fable 2 and we just went with it) is a certain area. Remember the Rakghouls in KotOR or the cannibals in Jade Empire? It's nearly the exact staging of the Thorian Creepers in ME. That's not the only thing that comes to mind, but I thought it was fairly relevant at the time. I don't remember seeing it outside a Bio game, except perhaps in Fallout 3. And I really preferred the no-alignment thing from DA:O to the paragon/renegade, which also ended up locking you out of dialogue bits...

    I heard rumours that they're pursuing an original title. I hope it works out for them better than the rest.


    Random question: did you guys play Fable? What did you think? I loved the art style but the stories in 2 and 3 hurt my brain.


    Bookmarked mod. I really need a day off or something to play through this and the horror games.


    I will probably add all six in a clique and make them bond. It should form cool stories. Conflicting personalities usually do, or so does my extended experience in RPGs. Found names for the familiars yet?

    Yeah, Bioware sticks too closely to their formula for their games. NWN and Kotor seemed nearly identical gameplaywise, with only maybe a slighly different graphical engine and camera angle. If you use the keyboard you can actually control the characters movement the same way. (!) their strong point has always been the story and lately that isn't quite good enough to get me to ignore the shortcomings in their games.


    It's not actually the story, which is almost always sort of generic.."Gather the five McGuffins"/"Call the five McGuffins to arms" but the little details around the story and the use of lore, I think. And the characters, sometimes. You know you always get the Bitch, the Innocent Girl, the Tough Guy, the Stoic..etc. But some manage to end up pretty cool and unique and you get the occasional side quest that makes things interesting.


    You know a company that went out of their comfort zone? Remedy. After Max Payne, they just moved on to Alan Wake instead of making another game about a noirish detective/cop with issues called Mat Layne. They tried a lot with the new one and you can see the work, which is a game I am deeply apologetic about, even if I can't say I adored it. It just tried and you can see that they learned things with the DLC.

    Larian is another, with their more recent games. Dragon Commander seriously comes to mind, which is a completely new concept.

    CD Projekt, currently working on Cyberpunk, though I will only say something about it after I play it.


    Bioware sort of did the same thing again and again and when they stepped out of their comfort zone with DA2 and the MMO, they were being walled by EA. I'm not saying EA is the cause of the bad games...because if you actually look at their progress, their best games are ones where they were either carefully monitored or had enough time to edit their stuff again and again and again, but being forced to churn out stuff so often seriously affected their vibe. Not to mention that some of their best people left the building.

    I hate bugs too. I like spiders...even the large creepy ones, I just hate being ambushed in my own house by them. Otherwise they don't bother me much. It's one of the reasons I hate going camping or in a farm environment...I just can't deal with all the sounds of insects and living things and flying bugs. I live in the big city, I like it and if I want to check out nature, I'll just look out the window.


    The novels were never that big of a deal...I mean, I didn't know much about them and I'm willing to bet a lot of people didn't either. I just think Bioware should have kept their hands away from the Star Wars series in general. Their points of view are a bit too black and white and in a series that already has that problem, it just makes it less enjoyable and harder to roleplay in. You're either the bad guy or the good guy and that's that. And the lines are so cheesy, especially as a good guy. I think this is why KotOR2 felt great..because it was just ambiguous enough to attract attention. And I really hate what happened to both of them because both Revan and the Exile had so much potential. I prefer the Old Republic to the New and just wanted to pursue the Sith...see what was going on, check out what Kreia was saying. Explore new environments, see the old Sith religion... The MMO is just an easier target than going at Bioware (again) for making it. I never thought they were a great company, just mediocre with some serious flaws, but just enough spark to cause some enjoyment. Their last game I liked was NWN (not the OC) with brief moments in Jade Empire and DA:O. And with their latest games, taking shots at it just feels like beating a dead horse.


    Also, these are some of the decent and calm discussions I've ever had about DA2 and Bio. A lot of people are just so defensive about it or just eager to spew on it and I've never actually got to talk about it properly before.


    When I first got a computer we played platforming like Crystal or Jasper. I never got a console, just a PC and we either emulated or got newer games (which, if I remember right we never bought, just borrowed CDs from one another that seemed like they hadn't had a starting point). And I got internet way late, at least reliable one instead of a modem. So MMOs just passed me by.


    Will do. I just need to find the time to play through it properly, lights out and all that.


    Hey, I named both my dogs 'Dog'. The whole visiting the dog cutscenes were cool, I agree. I hated the summoning mechanic...but the dogs were awesome in both games. Ever had Dog fight Loghain? Campy bordering on hilarious. Great General of the River Dane who got his ass handed to him by a mabari...


    And hey, I bet Sandal has a wicked poker face.


    So, new kids. I never thought about how they would go in a clique together. I gathered a lot of personalities in mine and I never thought about how they'd get along. Like Cyrus and Godina boys...and Olivia just always peeking into their stuff, because who is Cyrus spending his time with? The detention adventure proved that there are a lot of unspoken conflicts in the game and I'm interested on how that will work. I mean, imagine getting Lambert and Aymeri in the same clique and actually managing to keep them there. Do you think they become friends friends or ..just rival friends? Will we get an event to cool them off? Will they actively work against the clique or ..horror of horrors, band together and spy on the whole school? Imagine managing to stuff the most ambitious and antagonistic characters of both Durand and Aranaz into a single clique. You wouldn't even go to class, just manage relationships.

  9. I remember camp...and being attacked by flying thingies that scared the hell out of us. There were two rooms we spent the nights in: the room where everyone smoked and there were no bugs (or air) and the room that smelled like cheap perfume because we killed them all with deodorant and FIRE.


    Never had ants. Good luck with them. No useful advice, though. Outside of fire, of course. Fire solves everything.

    I can accept that you liked DA2, honestly. :P I just really didn't. You named the dog Barkwall? That's ...inspired. I didn't have the dog the first time around. Got it in chapter...3? I got the game exactly when it was resealed - me and some mates - and we just played through it in a day or two, ignoring most DLC. We only got those later. I would have liked to see more of a natural cause of the things that went wrong...and not have a defining villain for the whole chapter. One mod that comes close is Almraiven...there is a clear villain but the issues that go around the city are vast, have mostly one source but in different ways. Like a shockwave. That would have been great.


    Oghren was amusing to me for various reasons: he was a fun drunk, his story was both sad and he had the ability to get over it, mostly, and he was the outsider. His coping mechanism I could understand and he talked about other things than himself, so he didn't pass as whiny. I had fun with him. I would have liked Dog in Awakening though, even if my Warden was dead. I hope Sten took him and they travelled together back to the Qunari homeland.


    I don't mean the canon for male and female..I can live with that. It's the 'what they did and how they died bit' that's terribly frustrating because playing a character right, he can end up an absolute killing machine. And they ...sort of blew it. Do you know what happened to them in the MMO? If not, I don't want to spoil. I just didn't like it.


    Edit: also what freespace said. The story of what happened to them is simply lacklustre but is now forced into the canon so there could never be a proper sequel.


    Didn't try a lot of the MMO. Played the free version a bit, read a lot, played some more and quit. It's not really that addictive and I'm not a fan of MMOs.

    Nasher was an ex-adventurer first. The decisions weren't that hard. He already had a scapegoat outside of Fenthick. Could have paraded that guy's body. He had to save his own city from the plague. I get that, but let's kill the innocent to appease a population that would have been just as well appeased by better management (the prison thing was just silly) and the body of the other dude, it feels excessive. And marking him as Neverwinter's Greatest Traitor? Really? If he knew that guy was innocent, at least in death put him somewhere safe and stop spitting on his memory. I guess I liked him more than I did Aribeth, so I didn't give a damn about her back and forth around the alignment, but I felt like his death was just absurd.

    Also, Nasher was annoying in NWN2. It almost seemed like all of his choices were specifically designed to piss off the players.


    And I bet Aribeth was in Hell just to finally give a happy ending after all the fan outrage.


    NWN2 would have been brilliant with a smaller chapter one and a bit of polish. It took too damn long to get us introduced with everything, but once it picked up some speed, I really enjoyed it.


    What pissed me off about the KotOR MMO is that suddenly Bio's stories were made canon so now, no one can do a KotOR 3 without hand-waving whatever happened. I understand canon in RPGs if it's ambiguous or allows for change in the game. But making detailed and explicit canon just seems...urgh. Like the Baldur's Gate books which feel like badly written fanfiction to me.


    The DA franchise seems all about the mages from every point of view. Which is understandable, seeing as they manipulate the forces of the universe, but they were nerfed, lore-wise. Very few spells, mostly on offensive? I would have gone insane too, if all my training resulted in lighting poor shmucks on fire and I had some jackasses with big swords watching over me constantly. Oghren was fun and pretty deep for a stereotype of a drunk fighter dwarf. Him and Sten were my favourite.


    DA2's story felt disjointed. Out of place. There really was no need for it to have so many years pass between the chapters and only did so for the new gimmick part of it: "Spans over..." which replaced the Origins. And having a different villain for each chapter just helped the awkwardness. It actually makes more sense if you see it as a couple of weeks or months. Being a mage was annoying there (wait one minute for the stupid spell to recharge, don't drink two different potions one after another...). I did the whole one-on-one with the Arishok? It looked like a Benny Hill routine of me running around pillars and hitting him with ice every two minutes. It wasn't hard as much as irritating, which describes its combat perfectly.

  11. Ah, that makes sense. I kept thinking of other spells, trying to find more difficult ones. It was a pretty bad situation.


    Awww...I was curious about those spells. I kept asking myself if the forbidden art spells or generally any specific type are harder than others. I suppose the ones you have to maintain should be harder but a massive release of magic might have the same result. Is there such a thing as magical power or does it just involve skill, practice and knowledge?

  12. So I've been replaying the game and finished the Captain's adventure. Is the spell at the end of it (Glamour one) that hard to make the character exhausted? As I recall there are several hard spells we can cast (causing an icestorms and Glamour dragons, being an Elemental Warrior, Gates spells) but never with those consequences.


    And what is the hardest spell that the PC casts in Year One? Just for reference.

  13. How did the event writing go?


    As for the familiars, give us an idea of the personality of the familiars and we'll toss some suggestions. Honestly, the way I name pets depends on how it sticks.


    I have a cat named Ophelia (Hamlet's Ophelia) because of her usual personality. A dog named Boogie. Short for Bogart (due to the Casablanca quote “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.” seeing as she jumped into my mother's car and we adopted her even if we had another dog and a couple of other cats), a cat named Marshmallow, white, fluffy and two different coloured eyes. A friend has the biggest dog I have ever seen (looks like a horse) with long black coat and reddish eyes. Named him Lucifer Amadeus Shakespeare. We call him Lucy, but shouting all of his names makes him suddenly stop and look embarrassed.


    There are a lot of names you could pick and then explain in an event or in the background writing. Maybe they read a book and liked the name, maybe they came with their names, maybe they just stated different names and the familiars agreed on what they liked best.

    There's a freeware type of Word around. I forgot its name. OpenOffice? It might be better than wordpad.

  14. I think you could recuperate what you had on the drive, but it depends on the reason of the HD failure. Good luck with it. Don't worry about the kids. You'll get there eventually.


    I hope everything will be fine. What was the reason for the problem? Normal issues or bad fragments?

  15. I preferred the pirates of Luskan or the brotherhood to Nasher.


    That's exactly why it was cool. OWoD had all these rival factions so bringing them together was a major success for a DM, we could plot away and at the end, if our characters managed to get along, we got massive amounts of XP and bragging rights along with really cool friends. One of the finest moments in one of the campaigns was a Tremere, a Nos and a Malk meeting some Hunters in the sewer. And then the DM threw this massive monster at us (gross too) who attacked without prejudice. There was a moment of stunned silence before we all just started running for the hills and working together against the obstacles.


    My favourite origin ...either the Dwarf Duster...because you're just better than the others by your own strength. Second favourite, probably mage, because mage and you could solve your problems without the Duncan. You're in no danger and playing as an arrogant sod is easy.

    Least favourite has to be Cousland. The Dalish were amusing for a certain type of character. And the elf is pretty badass, fighting past a lot just because. And everything would have been fine if that friend out ours (forgot his name) hadn't put his grubby paws over the OBVIOUSLY MAGICAL artefact that somehow was in the middle of great evil. I mean, really. You'd think there were legends about that.


    I really wanted to like DA2...and reading things like that, that they wanted to but couldn't, just makes it even worse. And Orsino..urgh. He seemed so bloody normal. A boss fight doesn't even make sense. I really hope they had more time for DA3...there just aren't as many RPGs made today and any hit and miss is a sad thing to see.


    Ferrets are cute and incredibly mischievous. Don't trust the buggers. They will be cute at you to death. And yay! wolf. I'm befriending this guy and Aaran and getting them in the clique. Now all I need is to make myself a portrait of an albino and we will never meet sunlight again.


    Sophia wouldn't be interested in ruling, but I think she'd be nice for the Prince, so that he can rule. Gloria would be much too stressed for the position, but Sophia would actually step down and just council from time to time. Seeing as no one listened to her before, I think it would be a nice change. And they do hit it off well.

  16. I hope Nasher died. It's not just Aribeth, It's Fentick (and then naming him Neverwinter's Greatest Traitor ...seriously?). It's acting like a jerk to you, it's acting like an arse to you in the NWN2 OC, it's how he treated Aarin, Aribeth and Sand...He's just a jerk playing noble and when he got hurt in NWN2 OC, I cheered.


    I meant Changeling: The Dreaming, not the Lost. The Lost are way powerful. The ones in the Dreaming? Besides Redcaps and Sluagh, they're mostly useless in a mixed game. Prometheans is downright impossible with the rest and you can bet that the werewolves would be pissed. I like Geist...a lot. My favourite series from White Wolf. I liked Masquerade more than Requiem, for vampires. I like this Hunter more than the other. Werewolves sort of stayed the same. Changeling is much more dark but way less depressing. Somehow.


    I wish there was a way you could let Loghain live without making him a Warden. I mean, he was a good general (in game...outside of it, I think his tactic was rubbish especially if fighting in a swamp) and if he could kill three darkspawn before dying in glorious battle, that's three darkspawn the PC wouldn't worry about. AND you'd get the admiration of the ones who sided with him and of the Queen. It's not like he can do anything against you from that. And the king was a moron. Good riddance.


    And those statistics trouble me. The Cousland origin was probably the weakest. If the Dalish was bad in terms of consequences and such, Cousland was just dull. Outside of the murder of Howl and then Nathaniel chats, there's just no fun in it. As a mage or a dwarf though you get really into their sections. And you get two different points of view depending on the type you play: duster or noble. A lot of the people I played with played ALL the origins. It doesn't matter if they continued with them, they played all of them. That was the gimmick, the name giver, the thing that attracted me to the world in the first place.


    Tevinter corrupted the city. I get that. But from the trials you went through in 1 to the absolute HORDES of mages...it's just a stretch. It was a huge number of them. I didn't know there were so many around. I thought magic powers were special. There weren't even that many people in the Circle.


    I had a ferret. Cheeky thing. Stole all my socks. Stole everything basically. If you give Cuàn a wolf, I'll befriend him. Yes, I will.


    I played Cinders once, but it didn't let me do what I wanted, which was: marry Gloria to Tobias, marry Sophia to the prince, become spymaster and crush all who oppose me and start dating the Captain. And I'm sure the stepmother would appreciate it so she's happy too.

  18. 4E was only kind to warlocks. And maybe eladrin...who had existed before, if I can recall properly. I know that celadrins were since the second edition..? Something like that. Celadrins were eladrin mixed with another race, usually humans. Otherwise it was a mess. A sad mess especially since the Spellplague. I keep wondering if Nasher survived. I hated Nasher. Don't recall a mention of him. My favourite cities in Faerun were Luskan and Calimshan, so I kept an eye on those.


    WoD campaigns of mixed parties are always a lot more interesting than the rest. You can invent interesting characters and they usually have a compelling plot to make ones so different get together. I can imagine laughing in the face of the elders is amusing. And a vampire with a werewolf buddy, or a demon or a Sin-Eater or mage has all kinds of advantages. I think the Changelings were a bit left out. Playing it properly could make them powerful but in terms of adding them to an epic campaign, they didn't have much to add.


    I also didn't play much of the Couslands. They were human and dull. In a game where I can play as anything other than human, why would I go with that? It's why DA2 was, in part, not as good as the first, I think. Its gimmick was gone. And it sort of moved away from the BG successor.


    Sebastian was dull and against magic. I had enough of those guys. Honestly, there isn't much to like about magic in DA2. Everyone is a blood mage. Everyone. In DA:O you had to struggle for it and these fellow skin a knee and poof! blood mage. If the leader of the templars wasn't a wacko, I would have definitely picked them. As such, he was mainly kept away from me at all times.


    Ha! Yes, Cuàn's gonna be interesting all around. You haven't decided on familiars yet?


    I know Cinders. I get recommendations on VNs but I mostly just research the art without the plots. Cinders has pretty art. The environments are particularly pretty.

  19. 4e ruined a lot of things, among them the gods. And the land. And races. And ..urgh, just a lot. In PnP I like to make one of the more odd characters...with a lot of flaws but some substantial skills. I like warlocks for example, which are quite lame in NWN, so-so in PnP due to the unlimited blasts. I like them because of the background. You have someone dealing with demons willingly, why? That's the only reason I like the 4e, because it deals with them in depth.


    Our DM usually put an end to that behaviour swiftly and mercilessly. First time anyone tried, the whole party was wiped by an angry god. No one tried that again, although we all wanted to. We played WoD once, though, in a campaign in which, basically, everyone was whatever they wanted. We had a Sin-Eater (me), a vampire, two werewolves, a mage and a hunter in the same party working towards a common goal. I cannot tell you how many intrigues were spun around that time. I was the one exempt from it because I was dead and playing an Advocate, so I had my head in the clouds at all times. But the end game was glourious. There were about five wars going on and we made enemies of EVERYONE.


    Awakening was too short for romances. Anders was cool there, but I cannot look at him in the same way. I couldn't harden Alistair...it just wasn't him. I felt like it just went around his character and so, evil or not, I told him to stay the way he was. I usually don't defile the urns, because I figure, if the Warden thing doesn't pan out, get to that thing, bottle it, sell it, PROFIT!


    Morrigan was typical Bioware 'bitchy girl'. She was amusing to indulge in game, especially for my evil characters, but there were SO MANY GIFTS for her in the game that the entire reaction system was useless for her.


    And you know my opinion on DA2. I sorta imagined my Tevinter Warden popping in, shaking her head and moving on. And Fenris completely pissed me off with that wine. At least drink it, man!


    Sebastian...I forget about. He looks like a poet I read about(Link) which distracted me endlessly. I kept waiting for him to rhyme.

  20. Yeah, you need a cleric. Especially with Ascension. Granted, I'm a bad person to discuss this with. My favourite non-evil god is Oghma. Otherwise I'll just go with what sounds the coolest or what gods I like. Both Lathander and Helm are ...okay, but too 'good'. Not nice though. I doubt anyone would call Helm nice.


    Huh...if there would have been anyone I liked enough to consider romancing...I'd go with Nathaniel from Awakening. Anders was alright in that, but my impression of him just went downhill. Nathaniel was stable, somewhat grounded and had decent issues to work through to provide drama without it having TOO MUCH drama. Alistair was a bit too nice, a little too ...non-Wardenesque? Does that make sense? I played a ruthless mage who basically would have invaded a country to get support and he bitched about "bad choices" in a tiny village. I always felt the Couslands were a bit dull compared to dwarf schemer or dwarf scavenger or mage that can rip you a new one by wiggling his fingers, so I never ended up Queen. Not that it would have mattered. I like Loghain too much to kill him.


    You can sneak in the final levels. I think I did with a Nos. Except for Ming Xiao. I had a flamethrower though. My Tremere gave the finger to them all and probably skipped town. The Ventrue joined the Anarchs (weird, I know) and a Gangrel ended up in the ocean. I think my Brujah was the right hand man for Max. The great thing about being thrown into the ocean is that you don't die and in 200 years, boom! Vampire gets out and is stalking the city again. I liked playing a Malk simply to mention the Yama Kings and freak her out. Satisfying.


    I love to travel and try to do it as often as possible. London is one of my favourite cities in the world. You have so much to visit there, both creepy and just for fun. I also want to visit New Orleans on Mardi Gras. I imagine it's similar to the Venetian festival but better. I didn't like Venice as much as I hoped I would. The problem is that visiting America is tricky with the Visas. I already know some people who just wanted to visit a friend and were denied for some reason. I also want to see the aurora borealis and see Moscow. Don't have too many goals for it, just want to see different moments in a city.


    Yes! Smalling them is weird. Cat has a very different face while large. Will work on them regardless. Maybe...shade Cuàn a bit more. Give him some colour. Honestly, he's a bit creepy even for me. But hey, I bet he does burn in the sunlight. And it's my pleasure. I get to practice.

    I think it will be out by the end of this year because EA. They want games churned out fast so that they can use the hype from prior games. At least that's how it is for all of their other games. The Sims 3? Has two expansions coming out every year and stuff packs. Honestly, it's ridiculous, although it also must be incredibly lucrative. No one knows when the Witcher 3 will be released anyway. Pre-orders haven't started, they gave no trailer and most of the CD Projekt philosophy is "we'll ship it when it's good and ready, thanks". I honestly can't wait for it. EA also tends to release around autumn or spring, but mostly autumn, right before Christmas sales.


    Aww there was screeching? I wasn't around the forums much then, so most of my friends and I were looking at the stats, getting ready to create the perfect war machine. Each of us got an origin and fit the class around that so would could compare later. I know that a lot of my friends romanced Alistair, though. Incredibly serious guys - especially around games - and completely detached from the world were "Aww, he gave me a rose and told me I was pretty". I wasn't too fond of the guy but he had his moments.


    So you're not playing Skyrim...you're playing real life, with dragons? That could work...

    Brynyolf, yes, he would have been suited as head of thieves...if he would have wanted the job. I don't think he did. And in the Companions Kodlak says that Vilkas is too ..passionate? to be leader. Could be. Honestly, I would have given that job to the smith, Eorland. Shame he wasn't in them. College, yes. No reason to give you the position, no matter how powerful. Oh, and there's a mod for the guards. Apparently, they will only acknowledge some things once (like being the leader of the Companions) but others..yeah. So let me guess, someone stole your sweet roll?


    I liked the final battles in Bloodlines, because they emulated the insanity of a PC and the recklessness while still being crazy prepared. Going up to LaCroix's tower was amazingly fun. And the fact that you could improvise on the way was even better. I also liked the sewers after a while...I played that game for 20+ times.


    I can imagine why it was creepy. San Francisco also has some cool stories attached to it. I think they kind of lose their appeal when you stuck about twenty people in there with someone speaking like it's nothing. The only time I ever felt uneasy in a place was due to modern conveniences actually. In the Tower of London, there's a room where you can see the scratches the prisoners made into the walls. And a camera interposes your image with one of a prisoner scratching there with his nails and walking around in a differently arranged room. That was...interesting. And somewhat unsettling.


    Portal 2 I'm great at! Completed the coop with a mate in a day, finished the single in a couple of hours...It's Magicka that was trouble. I was exploded off the maps too often to count.


    I never made a student so I can't help. You could compare to the other kids...they hardly ever study.


    Oh, no worries. Cuàn does look like a vampire. It's strange because in the large form (I draw the large face and shrink) he looked absolutely normal. Bit pale but normal. It's either Photoshop or some setting I misplaced. Like I said, I'm not very good at this. Anything else you'd like me to modify outside of what you wrote in the other thread?

  22. Go with Angelo. A friend of mine played with him and adored him. I want second opinions but it's definitely not enough for me to get lost in the world of BG2 again. I'd never get out of the house.


    In DA:O was in the state of mind of "My mage is from TEVINTER. MOAR POWER!". The rest of the party consisted of Oghren, Sten and either Shale or Dog. So magic was useful.


    Yeah, you'll probably like the characters. So far, even I'm sold on the qunari one but that's probably because I like qunari. Still I have the slight feeling I'll be frothing at the mouth over that game, no joke. Hmm...didn't think about it competing with Witcher. Even if they rush it though, DA2 was a good learning experience for them. I'm sure they won't repeat too much of what went wrong.


    I liked Skyrim at first...logged some hours, had fun and then...I ended the playing session and didn't really want to pick it up again. I can't put my finger on it other than to say that..it's a great world as long as you don't delve into it much. Everything is struggling to be realistic and there are simply no consequences worthy of real life. The first thing that comes to mind would be the Faendal/Sven/Camila trio in Riverwood. I can't even give her both letters. And they live like a minute away from each other. Will they never speak again even if there are only five guys in the whole village?


    The Dark Brotherhood I get. Even the Thieves to some extent, seeing as you have to work on the sidequests for it. The College one is just silly. Companions...so so. I get that the former leader named me as successor and all but really? The PC shouldn't even be a proper leader, not if he's always running off for adventure and possibly never returning.


    Psychological horror I like. I like all horror but it has to be actually scary. Or at least try to get me in the mood. Vampire Bloodlines haunted hotel had the mood and someone with Auspex could get creeped out. The Shalebridge Cradle from Thief? Nice. Call of Cthulhu is actually mild in the going insane department. I think it's because the main character simply lacks a brain. He does go insane in the first bit, but he just bumbles on. Personally, if I were to go into a city of fish men, I would not be so lax on safety...


    It wasn't as much the spiral staircase as the tiny tiny space. It was fun because I was a kid and ADVENTURE! I really wanted something to happen though, in that castle. But like most medieval places, it lacks that certain something in modern times. It's mostly empty rooms with a bed or a table or a chair. I did visit a LOT of places that were supposed to be haunted and had less presence though. Ever visited a supposed haunted location? Pennsylvania has some really cool ghost stories originating there.


    Only time I disliked first perspective was in Portal 2 coop, where I kept having to time everything and slipping or not jumping right and all the edges gave me fear of heights. I got the hang of it eventually but still. Diablo 3 wasn't that great for me. I'd replay 1 or 2 any day, though.


    Arcanum is fun. I go the magic route for teleportation. Who needs a train? Still ...you are deprived of having of having interesting tech stuff. The Rule of Cool demands at least a couple of techie stuff just for ambiance. It is steampunk.


    Good luck with the kids. I don't think I'd have the patience to do all those tables but at least that will be over soon and you'll get to the fun part. I'll take a look at the portraits again, later this week if I get less swamped by work.

  23. Ha! I remember that part. I love Leonardo. This and Batman were the games where I imagined the NPCs must have shook their heads at me. "Hey, there's that guy that jumps off the roofs NON STOP" I think a week went by before I actually did the plot.


    You can play a rogue, get the perk ...I forget what's properly called, but the one that lets you use everything and use the Holy Avenger. Problem solved.


    Stabbing a guy but also freeing him! He was still alive afterwards! That's like..neutral right? I mean he was fine! Mostly fine...


    I didn't have that issue against Loghain because I was a mage, arcane warrior and blood mage so I was ..the only thing usually left alive in the party after a hard fight. And had an Ogre bodyguard. I loved playing as a mage in that game...and an intimidating one at that. Not for the gameplay as much as some of the lines that immediately implied you'd turn people into toads. Er..don't get your hopes up on DA3...from what spoilers I could gather, it's not going to be pretty. I mean, it all lives and dies by the characters, in a Bio game, but so far it's a 'meh'. We do get a qunari, I heard. Or a Tal Vashoth mercenary. So that's that.


    I think I only liked Morrowind...and the rest were just bought because "hey, it might end up being like Morrowind". Cyrodill was just ..dull. Even with things going on and daedra everywhere I was just "oh look, demon from hell" *swat with sword as if there's a spider at the end* and then moving on. I disliked having to assist Captain NPC do something cool. Skyrim...is a bit better at less traditional scenery. A bit. Still, you're right, they're just sad. And every guild needs YOU to fix everything. I wish they could have at least said "Yeah, you did win that and killed the last leader, but...how are your maths skills? Good with accounting? Yeah, that's what we need. But you can still have this staff!"


    I would recommend Call of Cthulhu if you want to try a non-scary game. I mean, I laughed. I adore anything horror. Movies, books, games...anything I can get my hands on. Sadly that means most of my standards are shot. Nothing scares me any more, so I guess my suggestion is a bit dodgy, but the stealth scenes were better than regular ones. And then you get machine guns so ..the scare factor is definitely lost. One of the scenes I laughed in was when you see a raving lunatic shooting at police officers from a window and I was trying not to alert the guy and die so early in the game, then CUTSCENE and I watch with horror and the dude goes and introduces himself. What.


    I think I lost my ability to get scared when I was a kid. I got lost from the tour guide and went down this tiny spiral staircase in Dracula's castle...well the one that's still standing. And nothing happened. Most disappointing moment of my life.


    I'd play anything. Shooters, puzzles, strategy, simulations, stealth, hack and slash, RPG...I prefer RPGs actually, but I find that very few actually qualify. Most are old school.


    Did you set a deadline for the new kids or did I miss it?


    I think I'm up for an Arcanum playthrough myself. MCA is doing one and I can't watch without wanting to play it myself.
