  1. I am beginning to write an adventure named Dear Prudence. This adventure has very little to do with music or beetles, although it does have to do with Prudence Cossins. It is primarily a way for me to incorporate some fascinating lore about her into the game that was cut from Y1, so the core of the adventure is “researching [through the research action]” Prudence Cossins, which the narrative presents as talking to her. I assume that the research mechanic in Y2 will be the same as that in Y1 [viz, each research action is associated with a lore and there are possible benefits at assigned stages], but I made it more beneficial for the PC and Prudence by having each stage of research give benefits (some major, some minor) for them. The benefits would be linked to the lore, the premise being that the research was Prudence and the PC talking about Prudence and both gaining benefit from their talks. So I have two questions. 1. Would this type of structure be possible in Y2, or are the Y2 research mechanics so different from Y1’s that it would not work? 2. Similarly, would it be possible, even in Y1’s research mechanics, to have each level of research assign a bonus in addition to a piece of lore?
  2. @Metis has mentioned that some characters have strands of lores associated with them, and speculates that it was a scrapped mechanic to research characters. is this speculation true? And are there any plans to re-introduce a researching characters mechanic in Y2 or future years? It would be a nice way to represent in game and story PCs' growing more familiar with friends (or enemies) and could be used to unlock new options in dealing with them in adventures. I did something similar in a Y2 adventure dealing with Sima Venesico.
  3. I have been thinking - since Y2 will not be sold initially with the character importation feature, will the Y2 character generator be strong and diverse enough to create interesting characters who can have Y2 adventures comparatively easily? and how exactly will Y2 character generation work? Will it be, like the Y1 version, based upon multiple stages? Would the Team be willing to share with us at least one option (whether background or list of questions to be answered) from the Y2 character generator?
  4. Or is the Team planning to release those of our written Y2 stories that it accepts through post-release patches/DLC? I ask because my writing of an encounter/story with Zoe Melis for Y2 has been delayed by a damaged computer (wherefore I cannot, among other things, play Academagia). @Legate of Mineta: For what it is worth, my writing of an encounter/story with Zoe Melis for Y2 is currently at slightly under 3000 words.
  5. In my most recent game (Aranaz is still more difficult to play than Morvidus!), my character was able to gain top marks in every course except for History in the final exams - Rikildis got that one! I was wondering what the Y2 consequences of such a nearly perfect showing would mean for Y2, and whether they would be substantially inferior to winning top marks in all Y1 course final exams that a character takes.
  6. I have read that in Y2, familiars will abandon the PCs unless the bond is 3 or 4. I have a character with a good familiar (a shade) whom I want to keep during Y2. Would there be enough time during the summer vacation in Y2 to raise the bond to 3 or 4 while avoiding declines in relationships with students? If not, I suppose that I still have time in this game to complete the essential adventures as I see them while raising the familiar bond.
  7. In my most recent game as a Morvidus Student, I fully maximized study of the Brew Skill and all of its subskills. The result (in combination with Pelia's adventure) was a brew skill level of 13. Naturally, I hope to bring this character into Y2 in order to study brewing. My question is: would a brewing skill level of 13 be high enough to be exceptional in y2? On 1 hand, brewing is a Y2 course, so having a level of 13 in the beginning of Y2 would be a huge advantage. On the other hand, in Y2, skill levels go up to 20. So would such a character gain more than formal recognition by attending a brew class? Or is the completion of the maximum in Brew in Y1 the equal of what Y2 would teach characters?
  8. I hope that this request of mine violates no rules, but I was hoping that on or about April 20, Black Chicken Studios, in order to commemorate the 1st Anniversary of Academagia's Steam release, could provide us with some sort of update about when Y2 may be released and what its progress has been. Ideally, there would be screenshots (or at least one) for it also. Could this happen?
  9. I was wondering if the Team has expressed any view on whether Y2 can successfully import savegames from earlier versions of the game.
  10. 1. Release the summer vacation portion of Y2 as its own game. Possibly, later it can be fully incorporated into Y2. 2. Release Y2 on early access. Both of these options would raise money and allow feedback on Y2.
  11. I wonder, now that the final patch for Y1 has been released, and 2018 is well advanced, whether Black Chicken Studios would be kind enough to tell us how the progress goes. If they will not do this, might they at least tell us something about Y2's mechanics for adventures? Either would be a great encouragement to me as I write Y2 adventures. I do not want to think that I write for a game that will never be released.
  12. So, I really enjoyed writing an adventure for Y1, and I am honoured that it was accepted. I would therefore like to write some Y2 adventures. The only problem is that I am not sure how Y2's mechanics will work in terms of skills and magic use. I have a proposal: I will write some Metis-style adventures with much choice but no fail-states . That way, I can get some ideas out and maybe get some feedback. Then, when Y2 comes out (soon, I hope), I can write more involved narratives with defined fail states. How is this as an idea?
  13. I have heard that one major problem in the development of Y2 was the UI. Has that problem been resolved, in whole or in part?
  14. I was thinking of playing a game in which my character would use the Teach action to improve an NPC's skills and academic performance. The following questions arise: 1. Skill levels are useless if there be no study levels. Is there any way for the PC to improve a Friend/Cliquemate's study levels? 2. Several subskills, most notoriously planning, increase characters' attributes. If a PC use the Teach action to increase an NPC's attributes through certain training, will these attribute increases carry through to Y2 in an imported Y1 game?
  15. I have heard it said that one major delay in Y2 is getting the art assets. Has that problem been resolved? Would Black Chicken Studios be willing to show us any art assets?
  16. One of my characters has the Purple Academy of Thei Background and completed the associated quest, gaining access to the teaching crystals. But that character did not study at the crystals much, and has a mastery level of 3. Will this leave such a character at a disadvantage in Y2?
  17. How does one find and install this mod? Would it cause compatibility issues with Y2? I want to explore familiars (a mechanic that I have neglected throughout all of my playing of this game).
  18. One of the benefits of Researching topics to level 10 is often an increase in their skill maximums. But another way of gaining a higher skill maximum is through Favors from Professors. In Y1, the result of these 2 actions is equal: the character gains a higher skill maximum. But in Y2, research will be more important. So when creating characters in Y1 with Y2 in mind, would it not be better, if we want our characters to have higher skill maximums, to focus on researching topics rather than on save-scumming to try to get the right favor from a professor? Finally, although I said that this thread was not a complaint about the research mechanism, I hope that there will be a way to make research more efficient in Y2: some way to gain a research level and a skill step or multiple research levels per action, or something like that. Will this happen?
  19. Mikka wrote much that is interesting for this forum, including four interesting non-heterosexual characters whom Black Chicken Studios accepted into the game. But Mikka has not been on the forum in over three years. So my question is: what happens to her characters? is someone else from Black Chicken Studios going to handle their adventures in Y2 and (I hope) future games? And did Mikka leave detailed notes with Black Chicken Studios about the future development of her characters?
  20. I loaded another successful completed game to experiment with the effects of extreme skill training after Kaliri, as a way to test run ideas for Y2. This character had achieved straight 10s in all four subskills of Synchronicity. Furthermore, the events of the game until the end of Kaliri had granted the Player character the ability to research Synchronicity, Empathy, Instinct, and Mental Bridging. During my playing beyond Kaliri, I researched all four of these topics to 10. Yet judging by the Day’s log, only one of those topics provided a benefit upon being researched to 10 - Instinct provided a +1 Insight bonus. I am not sure whether the results of these research actions was affected by being after Kaliri. I attach my save file for research purposes. This situation leaves me with the following questions. 1. what were the intended benefits to researching Synchronicity, Empathy, and Mental Bridging to 10? 2. How does one gain the ability to research Serenity? 3. will Research levels acquired in Y1 be imported over into Y2 even when they are below 10 so that players will have to use fewer time slots to research a topic to 10? 21. I have a very complicated situation that I want to explain that may contain one or possibly two bugs. Then I will state a more simple issue that I have read about but not encountered. Finally, I will ask a question. The situation: In my most recent playthrough, I was playing as an Academic over-achiever. Accordingly, my character researched Famous Dilemmas to Level 10, and then, having in this way gained an increased Famous Dilemmas level, trained Famous Dilemmas to Level 11. Then I used a Level 10 Favor with Professor Sido, which was revealed to be an increase in the maximum of the Famous Dilemmas Skill, which I then trained up to 12. A 12 in Y1 as a base skill may be over-powered, but I thought it fair enough - my character had invested research and favor to get these extraordinary benefits, and even the Everard Equation requires difficult skill checks with a Marat Deck in order to reach Level 13. I upload my save game to show that I tell the truth. But then there was a problem with this understanding of mine. I loaded my most successful completed game to experiment with the effects of extreme skill training after Kaliri, as a way to test run ideas for Y2. Now this character had been created as a Negation prodigy, as a result of which the Theory of Negation skill level maximum was preset at 11. During my playing beyond Kaliri, I researched Theory of Negation to 10 - reward being an increase in the Theory of Negation. Yet i was unable to train my Theory of Negation at all - it was capped, it seemed, at 11. I am not sure whether this was affected by being after Kaliri. In sum, there is an inconsistency in whether it is possible to achieve skill levels of 12 or higher. Maybe it is a bug. If there is no desire to allow PCs in Y1 to have skill level maximums (aside from Everard Equation) higher than 11, perhaps the game could inform players in the day's events log some thing along the lines of "You tried to raise you skill level maximum higher, but have already reached your maximum." A similar message is given for study levels and skill level training. Now for the simpler issue: the wiki claims that researching The Minds of Men is bugged, and suggests that “(+1 Anthropology skill max intended?)”. I have not researched the Mind of Men, but the Wiki also claims that researching Anthropology yields +1 Anthropology skill max. Finally, my question: When Y2 is released, I presume that Skill levels of 12 and above will have their own distinctive benefits. Could these benefits be imported backwards into Y1 through a patch? 22. I understand that during the summer, players receive marks, choose courses for Y2, return home, and can interact with school friends in various ways. But the following questions arise for me. Will players be able to train characters in skills during the summer? Will there be any libraries that can be used for training during the summer? When will the students set forth for home? Kapsus 1? Later? While travelling home, will characters be able to do anything, even in a more restricted sense (such as explore the airship, gamble with crew-members, etc.)? How long will it take for students to travel home, on average? Will there be adventures specific to vacation times and places? Will players be able to use catalogues to order equipment and use it before the end of their summer vacations? Will players be able to post unsent letters retrieved from mysterious bounty hunters during the summer so that they can gain the benefits of sending such letters in the Y2 school year proper? Will players have to choose Y2 courses before or after they learn their Y1 marks?
  23. As the title asks. Will this have Y2 rewards? Also, must one be the top scorer in the exams to get any in-game reward, or is it sufficient to be near the top? And will there be rewards for each course so excelled in, or is it only for overall performance?
  24. I have a question about relationships. I understand that the student adventures have sequels in Y2. But will there be other opportunities to befriend students and engage in adventures with them during Y2? Will these adventures be the Y2 sequel adventures, or other adventures or even, in certain cases, Y1 adventures?
  25. A strange question for me to ask after almost 7 years of playing this game off and on, getting better all the while. But these are my general strategies: I focus primarily upon study-level raising, then upon raising skill levels in my PC's subjects, then in Research/Revision (or both; in any case, this is not difficult, since all of my PCs use and have access to the Venalicium, the Library of Stars, and the Library of Mantale), and then a few other skills that are appropriate for my character. This leaves me with little time to do many adventures or build up a clique; I consider my game to be very full if I can complete more than 8 adventures: The Main Adventure, a class-mate's adventure, Scenes from Dialectic Class, Oan's Adventure, The Thing about the Venalicium Library, the Edge of Nowhere, and A Day in Mineta are the core adventures that I finish. I really enjoy the adventures, so I have some questions: 1. Will this type of playstyle pay dividends in Y2 in so far as it will allow for greater competence in subjects and accordingly more time for adventuring? 2. Will the class mates' adventures have sequels in Y2? if any will not, which ones (so that I can avoid them)? 3. Will building up a research level to 10 in Y1 have benefits in Y2? 4. Will the Southside Pitts Gang (if that be the correct gang name) have a roll in Y2? I find the adventures with that gang to be interesting, and criminal gangs can spawn so many stories. Finally, if you think that I am not playing the game correctly, please feel free to tell me.
