A few in game questions

That's.. So sad! :(

Just to be absolutely clear though I don't really care if the focus is a crystal or not. I was only using crystals as an analogy that my head can easily wrap around. Anything that can be used as a focus for generalists would do. Though curiously, why would one seal a palette and use that as a focus?

I can still see myself having a few different wands, A super high quality general purpose one like the one you mentioned for the really sensitive stuff in controlled environments, an "old hickory" reliable wand, (I would liken it to my old BCGs [navy boot camp glasses] it looks ugly but damned if it won't get the job done. a backup hidden "snapper" incase of disarmament of my primary, And of course the requirement for any mage worth remembering, definitely 1 for hardcore [redacted] that might never see use.

Well, at the very least it looks like I need to spend some time digging into the Hedi College archives for knowledge, though with one of my goals being dragon-casting, one wonders if that is even necessary... hmmm. :(

!!!

I just came up with a theory on this which I will keep to myself because it's clearly in [TOP REDACTED] territory if it's true. 8o

Anyway... what skill level would it take to create a magic-free zone for any length of time? even an hour or so would do.

Yeah, a magic "free space" ;)

What does a mimic troll look like that it can blend in so well. it's name give the impression that it mimics actions (poorly) rather than looks, perhaps trolls don't look so evil and vicious in this setting? or somesuch?

hehe.. I insist that from this day forward anyone here discussing the less destructive and more evil of the two forbidden magics should now refer to it as "Chocolate cake." ;)

Seriously though, I suppose you could use negation too, to deprive them of oxygen and kill all the nasty little buggers, but that'd take time... :(

And since you bring up what is arguably a benign (nonhostile and against nonsentients) use of "chocolate cake" May I ask what in blazes would Academagia graduates of the Kazus College did for a living in the preban era. Gates is far easier to see, but I can't imagine that even in the preban era mages advertised their brainwashing services...

 Brain wash? No no no! I offer my services to help people resolve their issues... Say, as example, that old Miller Thomas was in debt (and thus couldn't pay me) and his brother wanted the deed to the mill to erect a casino. His brother could then hire me to 'persuader' his brother to sell. At a reasonable price too! (As said before, the miller was poor, therefore the mill couldn't be worth much!)

See? Problem solving of the best non-lethal caliber. You might kill the miller, and then any children he had and then his wife so that the brother might inherit the normal way, but that might get you fined for excessive use of violence and the brother might not (want to, at least ;)) pay you in full because of all the trouble you caused the town. (Including the haunting of the ground by the slain family...)

How fast do you recon a first year student could cast a simple spell that works? I am thinking, if someone pops out from under the bed and says: BOO! in a loud and generally menacing manner, how quickly would your average first year (After perhaps half a year of study) be able to cast a spell to disable/disarm/hurt/turn invisible/other the offending personage?

(Yeah, nothing suspect about this question, nothing at all)

...Which is probably why there's a strength/brute strength roll to tackle the offending bed-lurker!

(Of course The not-officially-recognized "dragon casting" skill would be ideal for this sort of situation! Which is why if It's not in Y3 I Might just mod it in! :))

Ooh, I know this is a borderline [redacted] question, but if a student showed such a (possibly unhealthy) interest in dragon-related subjects and discovered a powerful magical ability in researching this subject (of which something like dragon-casting would be classified as) Would that be illegal, or anything?

Thanks, Legate, that makes very clear what needs to be done. Though I have to ask... Is it on the same scale as Mastery/Gates?

Oh, and Adrian, I have something for you. :)

Don't forget to read the back! ;)

Well I hope to learn more on why this sort of this is frowned upon. No doubt it has to do with the same reason that the draconic books are locked up...

But just knowing the dragon's language itself is not enough for cloistering.... Right??
