A few in game questions

I was thinking more along the lines of the summer months leading up to the school year, rather than after. Kind of like Y2's summer break is the ramp up to the proper 2nd year.

I agree that Y1 has a clear ending point. I think that it'd have been awesome if we'd had the oportunity to adventure to the school and settle in before actually attending clases, as a kind of tutorial, but all in all I'm sure that the Y2 summer break will give us a good glimpse of what it's like in Elumia, as opposed to just at the Academagia all the time. I'm really looking forward to it. :)

Also, did you intentionally avoid that preschool question? :(

What's the Legate's field of study? In the adventure at the Broken Pines, the PC says that you can never know with the Legate. But since it's very hard to master everything, he must have something he specialises in.

I'd go with Incantation or Glamour, but it's probably less obvious than that.

How much renown would we get by going the way of Freespace (learn all, use all, amaze all) ? Get job offerings right out of school? Get stuck as the new Legate? Ask to be made new Emperor of Man? Get recruited by DRAGONS?!?!

MadHatt;

Certainly Free won't have any problems getting jobs with a merchant coster, or in the employ of a noble. Academia will probably elude him, though.

Mikka;

Your answer:

"Their natural color is [redacted] - but a young woman of Catherine's breeding and magical resources wouldn't settle for "natural." In freshman year, she favored a subtly luminous emerald look for social occasions and an ironic slate grey with gold flecks for classes (though there was always variation)."

Schwarzbart;

"So to become a Prof. at Academagia one have to focus one one or 2 Magicschools?"

No, you need to be recognized in your field, usually through research or eminence of knowledge. It is possible to be more than qualified in more than one field (certain of your Instructors meet that, definitely!) but overall they are looking for a reputation in academia. Mind you...connections and wealth *may* be even more important.

*whistles innocently* :)

What sort of employ would nobles offer? I don't imagine they need all that much magic use, do they?

In fact, what sort of employ could we expect? Member of the guard as a magic user? Spy? Lawyer? How much would the childhood escapades count? Seeing as you can win cases, solve mysteries, catch crooks I'd expect a fairly full resume. Only the Legate and the Captain could count as fairly powerful connections.

Aaaand any chance we might get the years post-Academagia? Surely as an adult, you can get into even more trouble.

MadHatt;

It's very unlikely we'd do anything after Year 5, but who knows? It's possible.

Nobles have a great need for magic: in terms of estate management, luxury and patronage. All of the jobs that you mentioned are possible for a mage, and your childhood exploits (and Glory) will undoubtedly figure into that. ;)

Year Two mod tools question. Could you make it that you can link to anyone by any words? Like I could type in 'the dog' and link it to a certain person's dog, so when they click on it, the familiar pops up. Or even better, I could have a student start talking about 'that loser' and have 'that loser' link to a certain person, so I don't even have to have the student name the target of their hatred- it's automatically linked.

It's just a thought, but it would be useful for me. >.>

Well, I've got a couple questions now.

1. Are there any faculty on campus who are not considered to be especially qualified in any particular field? (you don't have to name names.)

2. I Understand if I wouldn't be considered a master in any of the acknowledged pillars (and certainly not in the illegal ones, even in those circles) but wouldn't it be possible to carve out a niche in multipillar magic?

I plan on being able to cast single pillar spells that would at the very least make a master of any given pillar acknowledge that I was pretty capable in that one field, even if I couldn't use the very top echelons. I plan to do this with all of the pillars. In addition, I plan on experimenting with multipillar magic to a great extent. I know you don't want to spill the beans but the "Corner Sight" spell almost certainly is an example of multipillar magic. Now all the phemes there are nice and easy to draw so in theory anyone could learn it if they were so inclined. But logically if "Corner Sight" exists... Shouldn't others as well? The only reason why "Corner Sight" is known is because the phemes are easy to draw. Plain and simple. But... what if somebody knew how to draw not just basic phemes from a few different pillars, but all phemes in all pillars ranging from the novice's to the journeyman's to the mid-to-high expert tier? (though again not the Master tier) You could discover a LOT of new (and useful) spells even before you ever had to turn to the illegal pillars for more creativity in mixing.

As an Omnidisciplinarian Aranaz student who plans to be a full-time Orthographer making one-time use spells, I see my character being in a pretty unique situation being one of the few (if any) mages capable of A. Casting these unique spells, B. Orthographing them for others to use, C. Most importantly, willing to teach this brand of magic. You wouldn't need to learn EVERY Pheme and spell from every pillar as I did, just the ones used in my most popular multipillar spells, which would be far less to chew on and thus learnable.

I understand that even if it really would be as I say, it would take a lot of doing before such things would be regarded in academia as a recognized branch of magic study but are you saying they wouldn't even look at that, Legate? EVEN if my character had aquired a reputation for using spells like "Corner Sight" or "Shocking Curse of Free Space?" :(

Yes. :)

Absolutely- blending the Pillars has a *lot* of room for research.

He could be the El Presdiente of Tropico 4 with Academagia DLC Expansion Freespacia!

What kind of people are employed for the school? I mean the like of cooks and guards and groundskeeper. Do the school try to get the best, or just pick up anyone that doesn't freak out at magic? Do they send out scouts, or by word-of-mouth, or find them from guilds?

(Sixt is heavily recommending this woman to be the Legate's handmaiden and she most definitely won't insert incriminating evidence!)

For the record the best tropico was the first. With the expansion. (Also, There is no real discernable difference between 3 and 4.)

I'd also say that being the dictator of a spanish-speaking island in the carribean does anything but appeal to me because those places are predominantly Catholic, and while I do not hate them, the same cannot be said for the church itself. I will not even say a word about it because of the sheer potential to offend but I will say that my feelings reflect those who started the protestant reformation magnified by a large factor.

Servants of this type are usually found by referral, and have wide latitude to do the hiring themselves, actually. Not freaking out at the sight of magic is a pretty compelling requirement, though. :)

Do the people of the world have a concept of 'Hell' or 'demons'? Or do Dragons and the Onyx Isle basically fulfill their roll?

How many separate bands of Monteon Mercenaries are there, about? Tens? Hundreds?

Do any of the kids at school have any skills in sword fighting, even if just simple defensive knowledge? (IE, would any of them have year 2's fencing skill?)

Would Mhadi's country perhaps produce scimitars? (Please say yes.)

You are correct- Dragons definitely fulfill that role. :)

Roughly 30.

I imagine that some would, especially the nobles.

Sort of- they use a blade that has a much 'deeper' curve than a scimitar, almost like a sickle.

Ooo, even better. What would such a blade be called? Simply a sickle? A muhaddab? I want to write a 'Curved Swords' event, in honor of that stupid game that's stuck in my head.
