Legate of Mineta
You mean their Coat of Arms? Yeah, maybe!
freespace2dotcom
Since telegraphs have been invented, does that mean that morse code has been invented as well? Or do they use some other kind of code, and will we see that as well?
Legate of Mineta
Freespace; It's Morse-ish. I don't know if it will make an appearance, as it's infrequently used. We'll see!
freespace2dotcom
Well that certainly isn't a prioriry! I wouldn't worry too much about it. Obviously the Acadmagia picks up some people who are not especially magical, based on the backgrounds, (and Poor Ana Flavia..) 1. Are there any people who wind up graduating without any magical skills at all? Just squeezing by on the nonmagical portions.. That would be pretty funny to have that one "Badass Normal" character who despite being incapable of any magic at every turn, would still manage to survive the intrigue, politics, and hazards associated with the school. Maybe just by being connected, or savvy enough. Ana doesn't really count in that regard because she has some ability to cast spells, and it's mostly a luck issue from where I see. 2. I assume Cyve has a moon.. Is it like ours in size and color, or something more fantastic? 3. How does the Legate of the Academagia get that position? And how long has old Orso been at it? 4. If a person was to revise an apple to an orange, would a person receive the nutritional benefits of an apple or orange upon consumption? 5. And although I'm on the fence on asking, I feel it vitally important to know. Does magically incanted food generally last long enough to..... poop out? Legate of Mineta
Freespace; 1. Are there any people who wind up graduating without any magical skills at all? Maybe just by being connected, or savvy enough. Ana doesn't really count in that regard because she has some ability to cast spells, and it's mostly a luck issue from where I see. Possibly, but probably not- as time goes along, tests become more and more magical in nature. 2. I assume Cyve has a moon.. Is it like ours in size and color, or something more fantastic? I'm not 100% certain, but I believe it is similar to our own. 3. How does the Legate of the Academagia get that position? And how long has old Orso been at it? The Regents choose the Legate. Orso has been at it for quite some time, although I don't know the exact number of years. 4. If a person was to revise an apple to an orange, would a person receive the nutritional benefits of an apple or orange upon consumption? A better way to think about it, especially in light of question #5, is 'upon digestion' the nutritional benefits would be an orange...assuming the spell has not ended and the apple is an orange at that time. 5. And although I'm on the fence on asking, I feel it vitally important to know. Does magically incanted food generally last long enough to..... poop out? That depends entirely on the Spell. The key factor is digestion, however. If it is digested, it won't revert or disappear.
Nyaa
If it is digested, it won't revert or disappear. You mean it won't revert back to the digested form of apple and it will become the digested orange form permanently?
Legate of Mineta
If digested, no, it won't revert.
freespace2dotcom
Yeah, Incantation and even revision can break the laws of conservation of matter but us negation guys can't even get causality down.... *sigh*
Legate of Mineta
Does it break the Law of Conservation? Or is that price paid...well, never mind.
freespace2dotcom
hmmm....? Was that a hint I detected there just now? I won't get anything else out of you... So I'll drop it... for now... I know incanting is best for creatiing things out of thin air, but is it not at least theoretically possible to revise, say, a speck of dust into something much more impressive? And if so, at what point does it lose it's feasability to revise something even very temporarily into an object vastly different?
Legate of Mineta
That point depends on the mage, of course.
freespace2dotcom
AH! Of course, so If I was a revision mage at the "Incanter's conference" I could outdo all of those out of nothing-holics and take first prize in any contensts of creation of items... So long as I had a speck of dust. Thanks for the clarification, there, Legate! XD (Note that I can be heavily sarcastic at timess)
Legate of Mineta
Mikka; Here you go: "Emilia Strolin is probably called things like "Mousy Emilia" to distinguish her from our Miss Picotti more often than she'd like. Kurt Henning wants to be called "Fireball," but nobody else is playing along. Ausdauer may well go by "Patience" or "Pazienza" among those kids who really have trouble pronouncing the Vilocian. And, obviously, when exasperated Morvidus kids talk in the dorms about "Water Boy" and "Cat Girl," people know who they mean. As far as surname use goes, it's not uncommon to hear "de Thiomines" rather than "Durand" - it cuts down on the confusion. Prudence wanted to be "Cossins" - or any other nickname, really - but none of it stuck. Gwendy really does seem like more of a Zuyder, and Luti like more of a Jaconelli. And, of course, Hauck has reasons not to want to be associated with Philippe. "
Schwarzbart
Wasn't the previous stand on Incanted Food that you can't sustain on incanted food because as soon the spell duration end the energy you got from this food/drink is gone?
Mikka
Heheh, Fireball... Thanks for sending that one up. I appreciate it.
Legate of Mineta
Schwarzbart; I may be in error, but as I recall you are able to sustain yourself on incanted food, as long as it is digested before the Duration is up. I could be wrong, though!
Schwarzbart
Some time ago I asked about this: Can we get some price examples of the cost of regulare living i.e. how much a meal cost or a room for the night so we have a relation to the RL how much the magic things are realy worth we carry around regulary. Schwarzbart; Sure, I will have to dig that up. Have I missed this answear or wasn't there a answear so fare? Edit: Found your previous answear about food created via magic (incanted, revised or summoned)so we both where right if that was the answear from the team. Food from all sources can be nourishing to a point, but the duration of its existence needs to be over a day, at least, for it to be nutritional. Mages who attempt to subsist on magically created food alone find that it is never enough, and weeks or months of the diet leads to malnutrition and starvation. The longer the duration of the spell which created it, though, the more nutrition it ultimately has. This has nothing to do with taste, though- which I suppose makes magically created food the ultimate in diet food.
Legate of Mineta
Schwarzbart; Thanks! Yes, the original answer was from the Team. Good to know my memory isn't too bad. For the other, I don't believe that there was a definitive answer. I think it will come in Year 2, though, when you get out and about a bit more in the City. Schwarzbart
Ohh, sad. So this answear will have to wait for RL next year when hopefull I can buy Year 2.

freespace2dotcom
1. In Y2, Will there be an actual ability to repair items like the sword of Kush that the game would recognize that it had been repaired? (Not just adding a stat increase or something) 2. How hard would it be to create a giant 1 Ton (or heavier) anvil or weight of some kind with incantation? Is it only complexity that increases difficulty? I assume not, but what is the most amount of something.... Say water, that a mage of respectable talent could produce? 3. What magic can alter/change a person's emotions. That is probably primarily a Mastery subject, but I was wondering how another pillar could do that as well, and how does it differ exactly? I remember charming Regent Briardi once so I could [redacted] but I'm not sure what the difference is on this... Very thin line here... 4. Have glass harps been invented? Will we see any? (admittedly a glass harp fan...) 5. Historically, have there been any mages who aquired a (false) reputation for using illegal magic due to circumstance or maybe a little ego? And how would a person go about clearing their name in a false accusation case?
Legate of Mineta
Freespace; 1. In Y2, Will there be an actual ability to repair items like the sword of Kush that the game would recognize that it had been repaired? (Not just adding a stat increase or something) I'm not sure what changes were made to Durability, if any (or Repair!) I can't say yet. 2. How hard would it be to create a giant 1 Ton (or heavier) anvil or weight of some kind with incantation? Is it only complexity that increases difficulty? I assume not, but what is the most amount of something.... Say water, that a mage of respectable talent could produce? It's quite difficult- not only complexity, but mass, too, can be a factor. It's hard to say precisely how much water could be created, on average- it depends on the Spell, the Duration, and your ability to measure! Glamour can do this (but not as well); the difference lies in how the emotions are changed. 4. Have glass harps been invented? Will we see any? (admittedly a glass harp fan...) It's cool, but probably not. Glassblowing and the science of sound are probably not advanced enough. 5. Historically, have there been any mages who aquired a (false) reputation for using illegal magic due to circumstance or maybe a little ego? And how would a person go about clearing their name in a false accusation case? Yes, but since it's easy for a knowledgeable negater to check, such reputations do not last. Where you see this most often is in out-of-the-way communities, which have little or no knowledge of magic.
freespace2dotcom
1. Are there any stigmas against magical substitutes in certain situations? (Oh, you just incanted those flowers loverboy, not willing to go the distance for real ones, are you?) 2. If one was to conduct a raid on a rival college's dorm, what sort of clothing would they wear? When I think black clothing, I think ninjas, and that's an eastern thing that I wouldn't expect to have as much of an influence in this setting... 3. Are there any "blood-brother" type bonds that we will see? 4. So, when a spell is cast, how does one control the specifics of it? Are you supposed to "fling it" with your wand, or are there bits that we are not as yet aware of for the specifics of their creation? (I want not just a fireball, but a homing one, etc) 5. Can we get a general idea of the age of all the important buildings on campus? 6. This is a big one so I'm breaking it down into parts. So when the bans on Gates and mastery took place, how did the Academagia go about that? What I mean is, A: were there any protests on campus regarding it? B: and did the ban come suddenly, or were there large debates prior to enaction so the school had time to plan how to deal with the ban? C: And how were those first years post ban? Did they convert the proscribed college buildings immediately to general instruction, or did they bar entry? D: Are there still (harmless) mementos in those halls of the past students and instructors that were there way back when? Or is even honoring the memories proscribed? E: And what did happen to all the students of those colleges after the ban? I imagine most simply switched colleges, but I refer mostly to the year 5s who might not have much knowledge in the other pillars F: Pre-ban, what sort of non-general magic positions did Mastery and Gates wizards have? Edit: And G: out of curiosity, what were the prescribed colleges' mottos?

(Oh, you just incanted those flowers loverboy, not willing to go the distance for real ones, are you?) I imagine that's in the eye of the beholder. 2. If one was to conduct a raid on a rival college's dorm, what sort of clothing would they wear? When I think black clothing, I think ninjas, and that's an eastern thing that I wouldn't expect to have as much of an influence in this setting... That's up to you! 3. Are there any "blood-brother" type bonds that we will see? No comment. 4. So, when a spell is cast, how does one control the specifics of it? Are you supposed to "fling it" with your wand, or are there bits that we are not as yet aware of for the specifics of their creation? (I want not just a fireball, but a homing one, etc) The Spell itself determines how it find its target- it's not necessary (unless called for by the Spell) to fling it or anything similar. 5. Can we get a general idea of the age of all the important buildings on campus? The main building is over 2000 years old; everything else is generally more recent, from about 1500 years ago to a few centuries in the past. 6. This is a big one so I'm breaking it down into parts.
