Gah... Both of them are Durand students!?

Hmmm. I'm not sure if I'd want either of them in my clique. I'd have the feeling that both of them would be the sharpest double-edged sword. Flore perhaps slightly less so.

Do/Did spirit mediums exist, and if so, did they use Gates magic, and how would they continue without that?

You can grow your limbs back? blink.gif What sorcery is this?! Advance Revisions?

Will we meet someone will magical prosthetics though?

Ah- Revision is the best way to do it, yes, but since anything magic has a duration, the best way is to promote growth by the body itself- that's most often done through a specialized form of Revision, which healers learn.

Hmm...

1. What would "Love potions" fall under? Mastery? But then there's no phemes....

2. Can you described exactly what made the "Background:Negated" Negation spell proscribed? Obviously it was long lasting... Does it permanently damage something?

3. How large (deep) are the islands in Elumia? Do miners fear actually digging straight through to the bottom?

4. Have elevators and escalators been invented? and if so, would they differ in any way to real life due to magic?

5. What level of knowledge is available (specifically non-proscribed info) at the academagia regarding ghosts like pamela?

6. How does one erase a pheme if you botch drawing one? Do you have to completely start over, or can you use the other side of your wand as an eraser? (haha)

7. I know we haven't seen any in Y1 that affects the player, but will we be able to put pims away somwhere so we don't get pickpocketed in later years? Which brings me to...

8. What would be a good place to put a few thousand pims in the Academagia? I don't trust banks, and a safe would only invite clever magical safecrackers.... Are those my only two options?

9. If food is unfortunately left out and rots, can revision salvage that? or is that unwise?

10. Are there any good ancient prophecies tied into legend?

EDIT: And as a sidebar, will we ever be able to keep ourselves from someone arbitrarily forcing us into their cliques? (Friggin' Kurt...)

Free;

1. What would "Love potions" fall under? Mastery? But then there's no phemes....

It usually falls under Glamours. Potions do not have Phemes, but you need them while brewing.

2. Can you described exactly what made the "Background:Negated" Negation spell proscribed? Obviously it was long lasting... Does it permanently damage something?

I'm not sure what you mean here- what is the name of the Spell?

3. How large (deep) are the islands in Elumia? Do miners fear actually digging straight through to the bottom?

Yes, it's a common fear. They are fairly thin. In some cases, only a hundred yards or less separate you from a plunge. The 'thickest' part of Elumia is thought to be a half mile.

4. Have elevators and escalators been invented? and if so, would they differ in any way to real life due to magic?

Simple pulley elevators have been invented, but nothing quite like an escalator. Magic has other, simpler, ways of doing these tasks, so apart as a source of power, it doesn't really come into play.

5. What level of knowledge is available (specifically non-proscribed info) at the academagia regarding ghosts like pamela?

Ghosts are thought to be wandering spirits, unable to return to their plane. Most contemporary research indicates that's the case, although the Gates practitioners may know more...and...certain Negaters. :)

6. How does one erase a pheme if you botch drawing one? Do you have to completely start over, or can you use the other side of your wand as an eraser? (haha)

Actually, that's exactly how it works.

7. I know we haven't seen any in Y1 that affects the player, but will we be able to put pims away somwhere so we don't get pickpocketed in later years? Which brings me to...

Hmmm, what can I say about this? Yeeesssssss.

8. What would be a good place to put a few thousand pims in the Academagia? I don't trust banks, and a safe would only invite clever magical safecrackers.... Are those my only two options?

Well, you could dig a hole, I suppose? Those two are the only conventional options, yes.

9. If food is unfortunately left out and rots, can revision salvage that? or is that unwise?

It can, and it can be nutritious, if the Duration is long enough.

10. Are there any good ancient prophecies tied into legend?

BAHAHAHA! [Redacted] You should read more Lore. :)

EDIT: And as a sidebar, will we ever be able to keep ourselves from someone arbitrarily forcing us into their cliques? (Friggin' Kurt...)

In Year 2, it's easier to leave Cliques. Ultimately, though, the pain of telling someone you are not their friend is yours. ;)

Oh, Deed: Negated. I should have known.

There is a class of Negation magics which is very difficult to use, and more often than not causes islandquakes and other dangerous phenomenon, wherein you attempt to Negate Magic itself in a specific area, or on a specific person. In your case, you tried it. It worked, but...;)

No repair is *known*, Schwarzbart. :)

2. Negation Magic that can Negate Magic itself... On islands that are held aloft via magic?

Using it can and probably will cause islandquakes?

Yeah, I think it's safe to see why that spell was proscribed...

The ability to use magic: a skill or a talent? Is there a "mundane" population, then?

Why are Mastery and Gates the only two "forbidden" schools, given the infinite capability for harm, chaos and control other schools can grant one?

You can pacify rabid animals with Mastery, teleport wounded to hospitals with Gates, and drive people insane with Glamour.

How does magic law enforcement look like here, and how exactly does one trace the misuse of magic back to the wizard if all you have is a fiery crater or an islandquake?

tehdeceiver;

It's a skill. Of course, some people are more talented than others, but in theory, with enough training anyone can perform magic. Because of the costs of a magical education, there is a very large mundane population.

There are several reasons, but leaving aside the political, the strongest arguments are both related to cultural views on freedom, and the dangers of widespread destruction in Gates.

How does magic law enforcement look like here, and how exactly does one trace the misuse of magic back to the wizard if all you have is a fiery crater or an islandquake?

It depends on where you are, but there is usually a Wizard's Guild or authority that deals with magical problems. All magic leaves a trace, and if the investigating wizard is skilled enough, that trace can lead you to the offending party.

Almost all the questions you asked were previously answered and have been compiled in Nyaa's World of Academagia thread here:

http://academagia.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=1190

Mastery is mmm... Morally corrupting, and while it was around, it was far more commonly used to do things like..

1. I like that girl, so I'll erase her memory and replace it with a new one. New girlfriend.

2. I'm too lazy to actually study, so I'll make everyone forget what the test we're about to take is on so the grading curve is lower.

Etc, etc. A wild animal can be pacified with other means, so in short, Mastery is "Evil"

Gates is far more sympathetic, though is also far more dangerous. In short, Gates as is known in the current era, is not entirely stable and has a random error factor. Even an utter beginner can attempt to summon a nice cute bunny and get Godzilla! Needless to say this is rare, though if everyone was doing it the odds greatly increase that something bad will happen. also important is the fact that a beginner in any other magic field will not be capable of nearly as much destruction as a gates accidental summoning, which is usually PERMANENT! That Godzilla will continue to rampage until defeated while even the most powerful magical fire spell will fade away.

And yes, wizards are pretty rare in this setting. Mineta is a HUGE city (like Rome of the Renaissance, hundreds of thousands of people) and the Academagia teaches around a few hundred students any given year. Most villages have one or two wizards but while anyone can do it, few have the prerequisite patience and intelligence to be really good at it.

Is this a gameplay element / will it be a gameplay element?

I can totally see someone skilled in Negation erasing traces, but then the Negation spell used also leaves its own trace, etc

There was an interesting question hidden here that was lightly passed. Can you speak/command animals with mastery? I understand that you *can* but would it be much different than, say, another human? For a newbie, would one be more difficult than the other? (I could argue that both should be the harder..)
