Creating new Location question

What I'm trying to do is create a new Location that is discovered by a Background, and can never be discovered by any other method.

On top of that; I'm not sure if NPCs get Background points to spend, so I don't know if that would be enough to make the Location player-only.

 

I'm assuming that setting the Type field to Secret would do the job; am I right or wrong in this assumption?

Secret will go a long way for that, yes, but it's possible to find it via certain Random Inform Effects. There is no true way to prevent a Location from being discovered, but you may want to consider instead placing Prerequisites on the Location's Abilities, which then prevent anyone other than a Character with your Background from using it.

Create a memory and have your background add the memory, then include said memory as a prerequisite in the location; no one can get memory randomly.

CremePudding: As far as I can tell, I can set the Location's Prerequisite to a Background; is there a reason to use a Memory instead?

In this case, yes- a Location Prerequisite will not always prevent a Player from using its Abilities, even if the Player does not meet them. If you absolutely want to control it, it's much better to prohibit by Ability.
