sjunaid
I got research up to 16 once. Don't remember how though
Schwarzbart
15 in Research is no problem first max all Skills to 10 including Deciperhandwriting not only did you now have +3 thanks to Deep Research but you get Cryptology max to 11 what gives you Filling Max +1 and then Library max +1. Now your already at 14 for the next +1 you need History 6 what gives you the passive ability Research Focus. But for 16 you need 1 more point and I suspect you got it from a item. Schwarzbart
Just breaked my old Revision score and now managed to have Revision 25 without any temporary buffs.
freespace2dotcom
Hmmm... Min/max Much, Schwarzbart? I have a 13 in Revision and Negation without any items. And a 14 in Research. Personally, I try to focus on improving a large amout of skills, and as many attributes as I can, rather than focus on improving just one skill to maximum. Out of curiousity, though, what passive abilities do you have for revision to get +4? I've "Method's of the Masters" and "Revision Mastery" Nothing that an Aranaz student with a Revision class wouldn't get. Obviously I must have missed something. Schwarzbart
Freespace its with items as I usualy don't push the max to go over 12 in a SS. I don't see items, that give theyr effects when you equip them, as temporary. You miss Pelia's Influence from a Morvidus only Adventure. This char have Negation 14 and Revision 16 without items , just checked.
Schwarzbart
Hit now Negation 23 with my roleplaying char Angelic thanks to many items (14 without items)
freespace2dotcom
! Legate.. When Schwarzbart gets to Y2 with that character, will the level still be 24 or at 20 due to the new level cap?
Schwarzbart
Because its 9 pts from items I didn't hit the level cap. I suspect we will see skills at 35 or even higher thanks to items and passive bonus in year 2.
Legate of Mineta
Free; 24, the level 'cap' is not hard.
freespace2dotcom
Its just that I thought that Y1 items were going to be incapable of raising skills past 20.
Schwarzbart
! Legate.. When Schwarzbart gets to Y2 with that character, will the level still be 23 or at 20 due to the new level cap? Fixed it for you

Legate of Mineta
Free; Not quite- as you'll see raising base Skills is much harder in Y2, but Items still grant their bonuses.
Schwarzbart
just broken my Revision score again with Revision 26 Items used: Gloves of the Revisionist Golden Apple Orean's Ring Wand of Divine Ingenuity Wand of Planar Shift Passive Ability: Pelia's Influence Revision Correction Revision Mastery Methods of the Masters Student of the Arcane Because I only increased the Phemes max to 11 and I doubt I got all items from my previous score there are still higher scores possible. freespace2dotcom
Specialization sure must have its perks. I don't know if you find it worthwhile or not, Schwarzbart, but merit rewards can include increases to magic sub skill maxes. Granted it's a random subskill, and not too many of them deal with Revision, but that's one more way if you havent bothered with them yet. I haven't gone out of my way for skilll-boosting items, as I try to focus my limited time now on attribute boosting and completing adventures. It's a real challenge to choose when you get less time to do with. Just my luck the reward for perfect attendance will be something like a free drink coaster or something... Schwarzbart
Lets face it Revision 24 together with The Stone of Revision allows you to add 4 x difficulty 4 Pheme to Revision of Skills without any chance of failing the spell. That's already a great help in getting trough the rest of the exam while the same time you manage to get trough difficult adventures. In my current game I used this spell 2x so fare to get +40% to the exam and get past 2 remaining adventures.
Metis
I have to wonder what the highest exam score possible is. 6th Finger, Enhance and the enchant final...man.
Schwarzbart
For me a spell that I use to increase my exam scores need to have a second use that's why I usually only use Revision of Skills or From Nothing Knowledge.
freespace2dotcom
I just use arm brace a few times when necessary for exams. I find myself quite fond of that spell. As for adventures, of the ones I do I can usually manage to do them without boosts in the last quarter of the game. I admit some of them are doozies,(especially some student adventures) and so I tend to not do them, heh. Saves time.
Albert
The boost from items seems to help with rolls and suceeding at casting things, but it doesn't give you the abilities granted for having that actual skill level. It kind of makes you better at using what you already got, like if you got 14 and you're boosted to 24. Your knowledge of abilities and phemes are still limited to what you know at 14, but your ability and familiarity to use that knowledge is at the same level as someone who's a native 24 skill level. If you both know the same spell then you would be just as good at casting that spell. But the wizard who's at skill level 24 naturaly, would actually know things you don't about other phemes and spells and magic in general. It seems to be the same thing when you boost your abilities by magical means. The Magic strengthens your ability to use what you already know, but it doesn't automatically grant you knowledge you lacked earlier. Which can be both confusing and make sense at the same time. This means that skill buffs might not be as powerful in the future, but they might still be useful when you're about to try your hand at some really tough for your level casting. In the end, at skill 14 it likely won't make you any difference to be boosted beyond 25. Unless it's for rigging the exams. I think Exams in later years should be more about your actual knowledge and academic proves rather than how much you magically boosted your abilities for the exam. Maybe a few practical tests and tasks aswell. Demonstrations. I also got Mastery to 11 without items! Get your tinfoilhats people!
Schwarzbart
just broken my Revision score again with Revision 26 Items used: Gloves of the Revisionist Golden Apple Orean's Ring Wand of Divine Ingenuity Wand of Planar Shift Passive Ability: Pelia's Influence Revision Correction Revision Mastery Methods of the Masters Student of the Arcane Because I only increased the Phemes max to 11 and I doubt I got all items from my previous score there are still higher scores possible. With only 23 I failed again to reach my own Revision high score at the time of the exam but there is still time to do some shoping. Edit: Ups the shop need Revision Phemes 11 so no chance to get this high in my current game.
