CremePudding
Prerequisite: Luck => 4 =========== You found yourself standing before a Black Chicken while heading back to your room. Even worst, this one seems bigger, scarier and eviler than what you have seen on the notices the school put up. There's even withered grass around the chicken despite the fact you are indoor and black miasma are swirling around. A terrifying and maddening voice pierces your ear. "Serve me." =========== Exit 1: Wet yourself. (Automatic success) A puddle form beneath you. Possibly you cry. Or not. As you turn around and run for the safety of your dorm, the chicken gave chase. That night, many puddles were formed near your room by your fellow students. Hopefully everyone's too terrified to blame you. +4 Stress ========== Exit 2: Brew. Give the Chicken a bath. (Intelligence/Brew v.15) Success: The Black Chicken stares at you as it sits in the cauldron, submerged in bubbling water and diced vegetables and medical plants. An uncomfortable hour passes as you hope it is not contemplating how to flay you alive. Finally it hops out of the cauldron. "Good enough," it says. "You may keep the bathwater." Then it walks away, with the withered grass and miasma following it. Add Black Chicken Bathwater +2 Stress Failure: The Black Chicken stares at you as you invite the chicken to sit in the cauldron of bubbling water. "This will not do," the Chicken says. Then you found yourself sitting in the cauldron with Professor Matain Leith and Cante Caviti. It is no surprise that Cante Caviti's here, but Professor Matain Leith too? He shoots you a glare. "Detention, just in case you tell anyone. More detention if you do tell anyone." -1 Vitality -1 Relationship with Matain Leith Reprimand ========== Exit 3: Baking. Give the Chicken warmth. (Insight/Baking v.15) Success: You stride into the deserted main kitchen, Black Chicken in your arms. Then you put the Chicken, a towel, a bowl of water, a bowl of round stones in the oven and crank up the heat. An uncomfortable hour passes as you stare at the Chicken and the Chicken stares back at you. The heat from the oven doesn't help, either. Finally it hops out of the oven. "Good enough," it says. "You may keep the towel." Then it walks away, with the withered grass and miasma following it. A stalk of celery withers as the Chicken passes by. Add Towel with Black Chicken Sweat +2 Stress Failure: As you prepare to put the Chicken into the oven, a voice rang out. "Hey! Stop that at once!" You turn around and found Giars de Periarde standing in front of you, arm crossed. "Gimme that!" He snatches the Chicken from your arms. "What are you doing?" he asks indignantly, "Don't you know that eating an animal is mur-" You don't stay long enough to witness whatever happens next, but his scream can be heard throughout all of Mineta. -1 Ethics -1 Relationship with Giars de Periarde ========== Exit 4: Carpentry. Give the Chicken a coop. (Finesse/Carpentry v.15) Success: Carpentry involves a lot of noise, but nobody dares stand in your way when it also involves a Black Chicken. After much sawing and hammering, you produce something that barely resemble a chicken coop complete with four wheels, a triple-locked storage box, a miniature toilet, a sinister altar and the ability to transform into something vaguely humanoid. "Good enough," the Chicken says as it rides away on the coop. "You may keep the storage box. I have no use for it." You open the storage box and found a even smaller copy of your chicken coop. But... how? Add Black Chicken Deluxe Mini Vacation Lodgings Failure: Carpentry involves a lot of noise, but nobody dares stand in your way when it also involves a Black Chicken. After much sawing and hammering, you produce a perfectly made, utterly flawless chicken coop made with the finest wood in Mineta. The Chicken seems displeased, however. "I have no use for a cage like this," it says. "FOOLISH MANCHILD!" The coop went up in flames, and so did your pride. And your shoes. And your foot. +1 Stress -1 Vitality ========== Exit 5: Animal Husbandry. Give the Chicken companionship. (Charm/Animal Husbandry v.15) Success: You present to the Black Chicken a crowd of lesser hens and roosters from young to old and throw in a few chicks and even a pair of white chicken as token minority for good measure. Fifty pair of eyes glare upon you. An old hen (who is now wearing an apron and an eyepatch) set a pot at your feet. "Boss says you can keep his bathwater. Now scram." You don't need to be told twice. Add Black Chicken Bathwater Failure: You present to the Black Chicken a young white hen. Then you decided to add a few chicks for good measure. "Now you have a happy little family!" You tell the Black Chicken. Then the white hen flew into your face and peck you in the eye. "How dare you! I am already married and these are my siblings!" Opps. +2 Stress -1 Vitality -1 Natural Philosophy ========== Exit 6: Prayer. Give the Chicken a righteous smiting! (Automatic Success) You have heard the command of the gods. They cannot tolerate such a horrific fiend walking around terrorizing the place. There's only one thing to do! Sadly, before you can actually close your eye and kneel down and pray, the Chicken has already tied your lips into a knot, broke your knees and peck you twice in each eye with its miasma-releasing beak. Beaks and wings might break your body, but it will not stop you on the path to martyrdom! Being hauled off to the infirmary by the Legate does stop you halfway through. +1 Glory -10 Vitality ========== Investigation 1: Greengrocery. Gather ingredients that would come in handy. (Finesse/Greengrocery v.8) Success: You walk into the cafeteria. "All your veggies are belong to us! I mean the Black Chicken!" You are instantly buried in fresh, whole vegetables. Excellent. Increase Brew by 5 Open Exit 2 Failure: You perform a swift but comprehensive search of the school ground, to no avail. Surely there must be more fresh vegetables in the school hallways! ========== Investigation 2: Minetan Swagger. Find a place to buy grocery or chicken, fast! (Insight/Minetan Swagger v.10) Success: Mineta is a big city, and even though it is not famous for nightlife, there are many markets and shops active at night... The reliable ones are too far away from the school though, and nobody said you must go to a shop. So you go to Alice's tavern right outside the school and perform the Secret (Black) Chicken Handshake. She responses by stuffing a wagon with everything you could possibly need along with yourself and have it crashes into the Great Gate. You suspect that might have something to do with the forming of many pale yellow puddles in her tavern. Open Exit 2,5 Increase Chance of Success by 3 Failure: Mineta is a big city, and even though it is not famous for nightlife, there are many markets and shops active at night... ...Not that you can actually get out of the Academagia when everything decay and wither as you (and the Chicken) pass by. ========== Investigation 3: Gates. Summon some mundane chicken. (Fitness/Gates v.12) Success: Using a rare and proscribed variant of the Swarm of Bee spell, you attempt to summon some talking, but otherwise mundane chicken as cohorts for the Black Chicken. A surge of chicken fade into existence, one by one. All of them glare at you with pure, undiluted contempt. Open Exit 5 Increase Animal Husbandry by 5 Failure: Using a rare and proscribed variant of the Swarm of Bee spell, you attempt to summon some talking, but otherwise mundane chicken as cohorts for the Black Chicken. A white, healthy, plump hen and a few chicks fade into existence, along with a aromatic, breaded nugget. You didn't know chicks can stare with contempt. At you. ========== Investigation 4: Drafting. Draw a blueprint of chicken coop. (Intelligence/Drafting v.10) Success: Anyone can put up roofs and walls for chickens, but you suspect that won't be enough. So you draw and think and draw until you are foaming at the mouth. You briefly thought about designing a Deathtrap Dungeon instead, but you put the thought aside for your own safety. The miniature toilet is a nice touch, though. Increase Carpentry by 5 Failure: Anyone can put up roofs and walls for chickens, but you suspect that won't be enough. To appease the horror before you, you also designed an extra coop! Surely this might please the chicken enough to warrant a prize? ========== [i will do the rest of the investigation tomorrow ]
