So, Adrian may or may not have angered me recently with his mind control magic. Because of this, I got the idea that I really, REALLY want to have our characters duel. Even more than write the CCC adventure, (which I do really still want to finish) Seeing as how the team is far more busy on making and programming awesome content for us,(and rightfully so) I know therefore that it fall upon us, the fanbase to make it so. Now, I'm far from the most elite hacker/cracker programmer out there but I've been tinkering with the idea of at least starting a programming project to make a simple duel program. Crazy I know. But stick with me. I'd like this particular thread to be devoted to the idea of creating one. I think we all can at least make a nice large first step by at the very least discussing the rules of a duel in the game, and exactly what would be necessary to *emulate* Y1's duel system. (which I'm sure Y2 will be using and expanding upon so we can use as a base) That way if a FAR more skilled programmer than yours truly comes along (like an actual one ) At least they wouldn't have to guess and prod from scratch. The way I see it, what we need at a minimum is a program that: A: Can input variables of all Attributes+Skills, spells+phemes AND Duel items available to two characters. (To keep it simple, we could format a certain textfile for the program to read upon execution..) B: Has a list of all duel actions, what their roll is, and their effect on vitality or other rolls. C: Has a list of all spells, the phemes required for each, their rolls if any, as well their effect on vitality or other rolls. D: Has a list of all phemes, Their roll difficulty modifier, and their effect if added to a spell. E: Sets up a turn-based system that repeats itself until the vitality of one person =/< 0 (or other prerequisite for winning is met) F: Would cross reference spells and phemes available to each character and lock out the ability to cast spells and phemes that either given character should not have the ability to cast. To keep it absolutely simple, we wouldn't need anything like internet connectivity built into it. We could have just one person run the program with the stats of both characters in it, open up a chat anywhere (even on the forum!) and have the person not running it say which phemes/actions they want to use. Even better would be having a third person run the program and be a moderator to keep it fair. Even if we suck at programming, We can at least set up these lists for programmers to use so that the task becomes less impossible to do. I know that this alone is a HUUUUUUUGE thing to do because these things are not in one easy to access spot. Believe me! BUT!! I think that if we can accomplish it, that would actually be the more difficult part of it, and getting a programmer to code the lists according to the rules I stated (and will have modified on feedback) might not be quite as hard then. The second post I made is reserved for the lists when they are created. I'm gonna be pulling as much info out of the modtools as I can on this but it'll be up to you guys to help me at least by pointing out any inaccuracies/additional information required for this idea. Example: try to cast Wrath of the comet's tail, does characterX have access? 1 = yes, 0 = no. If 0, then try again. It would be as simple as reading a few 1s or 0s in the text file I mentioned. Furthermore, it wouldn't need to cross-reference anything SAVE for the phemes/spell or action that was being attempted in the current round. which means it'd be LIGHTNING fast compared to mod publishing. All we really need to know are the illegal phemes and the spells will make it obvious that they contain an illegal pheme in these lists. Edit: Also, will "opposing" pheme information be important for duels? (negation for example) Tell me now because I'm transcribing the info now. I'm focusing on the duel aspect, though, so the most important info for this thread is the spell roll difficulty modifier and what skills/attributes they change. It's easy to look them up individually, but a royal pain to compile them into one comprehensive list. If you've got a spell list ready we could use that too for this. Post a picture of your character's stats, phemes and spells and go at it. One reply, one action or however you'd prefer. It would be like a long-distance chess match or online PnP session. Post a picture of your character's stats, phemes and spells and go at it. One reply, one action or however you'd prefer. It would be like a long-distance chess match or online PnP session. You can sign up by helping me make it! I can't do all of this at the same time, so if you guys can again go over the duel rules here! Here's what I got so far... Drakov Posted January 12, 2013 Report Share Posted January 12, 2013 Your pheme list is almost complete, you missed only the Regulate and Vibrate phemes, some mistypos: Descernment, Hyrdopulsion, Minutie, Mirablis, Phoeneme, Precriptive, Refractove, Vegitate. If you can wait I will upload around next week my phemelist with rarity, difficulty and opposite phemes added. I don't know if I will add the spell type magnitude, it has any use to us anyway? It's maybe a feature of bug that two phemes have 2 opposites (Austerity and Destruction), but their opposites are ghost phemes (not listed among the phemes, but they can be found in opposites: Mirth and Production phemes), it is intended? I don't know what would be an illegal pheme, I read only about phemes with bad reputation like Destruction, Draconis or Shadow. I think the phemes are mostly neutral, it's the spell's effect which can be described as illegal, many Glamour and Master spells share the same phemes too, I read that from one of the lores, that's why phemes aren't banned, they are blocks, elements but they can be built for destruction. It was a rushed job, though not too bad if you consider I've been typing so long I don't need to look at the keyboard anymore. Thanks for the heads up. I'll edit the list. Edit: I didn't see anything wrong with Hyrdopulsion, could you elaborate? Edit2: Does anyone know if there are spells/phemes not accessible in a duel? I know the other way around is true, but...
