Dreamweaver
I've made a new character who is foregoing Incantation in favor of Astrology and incidentally will be mastering Incantation in her own time with the assistance of Contu's School. Only.. I need the first step of Incantation Theory in order to know about the school. Logically I'd say my character should have been allowed to look up Incantation at the library but apparently she'll need to randomly stumble upon it. The wiki doesn't mention any way to expand this skill that doesn't require already having it, anyone know of a reliable way to get the first step? I suppose merely entering the Incantation Classroom would be enough, but I don't know any non-random way to discover that one either.
hdghg
The only way I know of it to get Ana Flavia in your clique - her ability improves all magic theory skills which will also discover it for you. The theory skills don't seem to improve from events or adventures much but it's possible that there's an adventure out there that'll do it - can't say for sure though
Schwarzbart
Ana is the only sure way to unlook Theory of Incantation beside having it as class and unless you absolut want a Godina char in your clique I see Ana even as huge plus as her adventure is also a way to unlook the Sphinx. Dreamweaver
Well my initial studies at the Venalicium Library invariably maximizes my research skill and unlocks the Sphinx. Still I think I might include her even though I usually make one-college cliques. I kinda like her passive ability, and I've yet to do her adventure. It's kinda weird that there is no way to be informed of the basic magic skills if you don't take them as classes.
Schwarzbart
You can also use one of my mini mods where you could have the Contu's School unlooked and payed right at start.
Dreamweaver
Well I prefer to go unmodded (unless a really cool mod came up) in case there is any troubles exporting the save. Also I'd rather not pay a background point when tuition payment and saving up can be done in 4 time-slots. I like role-playing my choices, but I still can't help optimizing my character somewhat. hdghg
There's a couple of adventures which will give enough money for the tuition as well as the usual benefits you get for adventuring. Seeing as you're taking astrology, try "A chance encounter at the Admiratio".
Dreamweaver
The most profitable use of time I've found involves getting 1 Amphibian skill and 9 Observe, then hunt frogs, you'll get 1 frog per action worth 300 each.
hdghg
Interesting - I never tried that action so I didn't realise they were so valuable. I rather think the adventure has the edge though, assuming you pass all the checks. Give it a try
Dreamweaver
I will, one of the reasons I picked Astrology was due to the 2 quests mentioned in Mikka's list. It's only doable the once though..
Svinik
The adventure is worth 2,375 pims the way I did it (on the wiki) - for 3 actions - which puts your frogs into perspective. I confess to not doing any actions to earn money generally, I just adventure and sell accumulated junk every few months (fortunately my wardrobe seems to be bottomless). Sadly in my current game Ana is in another clique so I'm unable to get her to unlock incantation theory for me, which is a pain as it would be nice to fill out the incantation set, fortunately random events and adventures are beefing the other incantation skills for free quite nicely. hdghg
I keep all the junk. I love junk so much In year 5, maybe I can make a wand golem out of all my spares
Schwarzbart
Wasn't there the mention that we can only keep a limited number of items to the holiday in year 2? Edit: Schwarzbart; There is a limit, yes, but I'm not sure what it is. I think it's based on your Concealability.
Dreamweaver
It seems Durand De Thiomines has the ability to give you 3 random incantation skills as his clique ability. I suppose that would also work, but I've just picked up Ana in my game now.
