Metis
All that I can say. Fair enough, though for the Team's sake I hope that there's a lot more that can can't be said at this exact point in time . I don't expect much from a web-based game in terms of complexity, but there being a grand total of 1 use for all ships in the game (namely, combat) and there being a grand total of 1 way that said combat ends up working out (namely, kill everything before everything kills you) would be rather disappointing. It's not like they're not being handed ideas, either .
Legate of Mineta
Nel; I don't know, actually- it seems like most mobile games these days do, and I imagine there will be a need for some connection. They talked a fair bit about off-line, but I'm not sure if they can do that yet. Metis; Well, the hallmark of a mobile game, alas, isn't complexity- I don't think it's too far from the tree to say that Belle is primarily about combat, and combats ending in *explosive* ways. That said, I can say no more about dark corners...
Metis
Well, perhaps not complexity so much as variety. Stuff like salvaging, capturing targets as opposed to sinking them, something to break up the otherwise constant "kill everyone, don't get killed" objective. Legate of Mineta
Metis; There's a fair amount of variety in missions, just not the actual end result of a combat, I'd judge.
Nel Celestine
hmmm, the slacker backer options disappeared from the paypal page. are they gones for good?
Legate of Mineta
Nel; Yes- they were removed June 1, alas. We will ultimately add a few more Tiers as we go along, but not as good as the ones from the Campaign.
Nel Celestine
Thanks, I keep telling people and had a few ask about slacker backing. Hopefully something will pop up soon
Legate of Mineta
I believe after July.
Mignonette
This is more of a minor flavor thing, but one think I noticed across all the shipgirl games I play is that the enemies don't have a "damaged" sprite as well. The closest thing to that is with certain special event bosses in KanColle (those usually appear as their sprite on the last dance). I doubt VB will have something like that as it's more illustration work, but it's something to think about.
HeatTalon
Have you thought about doing the game in other languages in the future? (I am a bit salty that it is all belles)
Wellington99
Have you thought about doing the game in other languages in the future? (I am a bit salty that it is all belles) Well they have mentioned about having an option to replace the Swastika and Rising Sun with other more PC flags, so I'm certain it's been talked about. What do you mean in regards to the latter in parentheses? That the Belles speak their national languages? I am confused
Metis
If you're talking about whether the game's regular text will ever be translated into a language other than English (at least I assume that's what it'll end up being), well... If you mean to say that it's ~5K words per path and there's 3 paths for each of the 120 Belles, that's a total of ~1.8 million words. So, roughly the word count of the Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Planescape: Torment combined. That's still nuts . Don't count on it. Legate of Mineta
HT; Unfortunately, what Metis wrote. Interface, sure, that's possible. Stories? Really, really unlikely.
Dano
What do you mean in regards to the latter in parentheses? That the Belles speak their national languages? I am confused I'm guessing they want some shipboys.
Wellington99
I'm guessing they want some shipboys. I was under the impression that it was nearly universal that ships are referred to as having female genders, hence shipgirls
DrYuriMom
I was under the impression that it was nearly universal that ships are referred to as having female genders, hence shipgirls Not at all. Soviet ships as I understand it were generally male in pronoun. Germans we somewhat ambivalent. It's an Anglophone thing to make them so decidedly distaff side. Legate of Mineta
What DYM wrote. Although, we didn't know about the Russians until much later.
Procyon
What DYM wrote. Although, we didn't know about the Russians until much later. I'm sure the fans and players won't really care . World of Warships still calls them "she" when they talk about Soviet ships in regards to their game.
Fifrein
>_< Warship generally male, until named. Then it's up to crew. (Except subs) To quote Lipstig from page 5, as we already had this discussion regarding the gender of soviet ships, see above. As for the Germans, it was decided that a few could be male but most were female. Everyone else was pretty much universally female.
DrYuriMom
That's only because everyone looked to Britain to set the naval traditions.
Legate of Mineta
And now everyone looks to Britain to [insert Brexit joke here].
Schwarzbart
Serious I don't understand them they got so many exceptions in their EU membership and now they throw this all away. (even worse Scotland and Irland might leave GB to stay in the EU. Beside its funny that the premier responsible for this mess stepped down) But anyway lets keep the Brexit out of this thread or we can expect a few pages just with that. Metis
Here's a better threat derail: So far salvaging and live capture has come up, what else could be added to spice up combat? Escort missions are an obvious idea, though I don't know how well they'd work. What about defensive missions? I don't think Morgana can split out infinite ships from their mist, but say a large number of them showed up to attack some important target (important to the Belles, the Morganas or (knowingly or not) both). Hold out until the cavalry arrives? Defeat the leaders while dealing with (effectively) infinite mooks to break the siege? I don't think if the latter would work well in a turn-based combat game that doesn't have concepts of things like rows and such, but timed survival missions can be an idea.
