Permanent Stat loss from temporary debuff

On the first random event I ran into, my character got hit with the bear inbetween you and the herbs one. I chose the botany option to apply a salve and failed, netting me the temporary Stenchy (-3 charisma, social penalties). The issue is that the stat loss never went away, making social events and raising social skills incredibly difficult. This problem lasted throughout the year.

Tricky;

Did you patch to 1a? This problem was corrected in that Patch. Unfortunately, as it turns out we cannot recover your save games created before that Patch. :)

No, this playthrough happened entirely on the day of release. I'll apply the patch before any further playthroughs, though.

Not at all! We are trying to squeeze one last bug fix in right now. Once it's done, we'll release.

Hi, I just bought the game yesterday (which may have been right around the time you wrote that message) on Impulse. Judging from the conversation, that should have been after the first mentioned patch, the one where this bug was fixed. However, I ran into exactly the same problem, rendering my character utterly charmless. I'm just wondering what the update procedure should be regarding Imuplse purchases - wait for them, ala Steam, or apply directly via download from this site?

On a related note, I realized that I'd likely run into a code bug, and figured I could just manually edit my character stats in the save file. Unfortunately, the save game file is enormous and won't open in Notepad, stumping me. Is there any method you can recommend for manually editing save game files?

Thank you for your time

Emperor Norton I;

(Great Name!)

I would definitely get the Patches here, rather than wait for Impulse, although eventually it will trickle there as well.

There is no good way to edit the saves (they are indeed enormous), but once you have access to the Mod Tools it will be easy to build yourself a trainer to do what you like- although even that will take time.

Thanks.

I did some poking around. According to Impulse, the release history is still at v.1.00, as of around 9:30 PM Tokyo Time. I downloaded and manually applied the patch, and had no problems.
