DuckSauce
Seems scoring extreme on exams doesn't matter much(unless it has ... hidden benefits), so I figured maybe we could see about getting the highest scores for exams. I got 190 for arithmetic exam(mid terms): A certain +6 arithmetic and +6 properties of arithmetic ability combined with some narrow focus to get 2 of the other skills to 9 did the trick xD. Negation was also pretty high, since I seem to have a permanent +4(recently boosted to +5) bonus to negation parent skill(not sure where the +3 comes from though...) Anyway, lots of studying on this go, think I'll have a lot of time for the rest of the year freed up now
mhv3
Best I've seen is 280. 10 study 10 natural skill boost 3 subskills by 9 and the main skill by 9. ( I think 9 is the maximum boost, but not 100% sure)

Legate of Mineta
The Instructors always love to see a Student excel.
Draigh
Does the Student in question get anything to show for it? Like an increased relationship or special lessons or anything?
Legate of Mineta
Draigh; There are three significant results for scoring very well, as you will see.
Ranielle Limeleaf
is that for CP1 and Patch3? Because in the finals I got like 220 on Arithmetic and nothing special happened =( Yes Arithmetic is one of the easily broken exams. Probably the questions are easy =P
Vegejor
What I want to know is what is the needed lvl to get the maximum out of each skill? I am usually around 140-150 for each skill and don't bother with any spells. Till what point is using spells useful=
Legate of Mineta
Ranielle; No- that is for Year 2.
Draigh
So scoring very well in Year 1 has consequences for Year 2? And what levels of 'very well' should we be thinking about then? 100 - 150 - 200 points?
Legate of Mineta
Draigh; Originally, 100-125, 126-150. We need to revise based on actual Player data, however.
Vegejor
May I suggest not doing it yet Legate. As right now 120-140 is well reachable, but without knowing which exam is when (yes I know that will come, but that is the point) it is hard to use the right spell now to increase it. I believe it would be better to adjust those values till you guys have implanted many of the idea's/suggestions you are getting from us. Otherwise you'll keep running in circles to adjust the values with every patch you bring out.
Legate of Mineta
Veggie; Thanks! We haven't done anything yet- when we set this part of the design in stone, we'll make a decision.
Draigh
Sounds like a very good range to me. I think only the really diehards (or cheaters) are going to be above that range. And that would partly be luck instead of skill, is my guess...
laclongquan
It depends on classes. Botany? Maximum can be reach before Midterm, but just playing normally can get you level 8.
Vegejor
Botany is one of the easiest classes. Study the field gives you a point to three sub skills. So doing that about 20 times (depends on your attribute off course) and you got it to maximum.
laclongquan
It should have more subjects in it: Agriculture, Flowers, Roots, Seeds Seem too few. Some more like Trunks/Branches, Barks, Saps would be nice. I mean, History got a bunch, Caligraphy, Art...
Avatar Of Woe
This thread raises good points. Suggestions to the devs: 1) Can you patch year 1 so there's some kind of immediate reward for getting the highest marks? Maybe a point of Glory? 2) Can you change the parent skill to rely on an average of all your sub-skills?
Draigh
I wouldnt chance it to an average of all your sub-skills. That would unbalance it for those that only have a few skills, or those where you did not unlock all skills yet. Secondly, if you study History... who says you need to research and learn ALL time periods? Just as that RL university requires you to specialize, so too can you specialize in specific time periods (those three that you need for the grades). Of course classes give some in the others too, but that's common. I learned a lot of basic info at university about the other specialties too, which I probably won't be using much anyway. But I agree, some reward for high midterms would be nice.
Avatar Of Woe
Maybe an attribute system (grade = (attribute + avg sub-skills) * Study Level) or [ ½ Study Level + (average sub-skills) ] or something. Anyway, specialization shouldn't be a focus in year one, at least not compared to the real world. The students are only about 13 so they should be Grade 6 or 7 equivalent. But I will concede that specialization does make the game more fun. Just not realistic. Maybe this is something for the mods.
DuckSauce
Considering exam points don't really matter now, what is the lowest you can? 50 midterms, 100 end, or is less allowed for both, it was never clear for me.
Legate of Mineta
The lowest you could possibly receive is 10, but the odds of that are extremely low.

Legate of Mineta
DuckSauce; We haven't finalized it, but there's a gradient. You can't be expelled in the second year unless you failed all 6 Classes in the first (what a failure constitutes in these Classes is determined by the grading system they use). Every year after grows more stringent, however, if you do not improve your scores.
DuckSauce
So we can't be expelled in the first year even if the score is 10 on everything? Makes some leeway for focusing purely on... other subjects(mastery/gates? )
