  1. What happens if I teach an entire college mastery of Gates? Does Durand get expelled then? Do they execute all the students? Do they use illegal Mastery to erase their memories? Does the Year 1 conversion tool even take into account when I do weird things like get my relationship with a random student to 20(permanently)? Should I teach my familiar Gates? Will I ever need to make a 50(attribute)+15(Gates) roll or am I overdoing it? gates
  2. The problem with not wanting to summon anything ever is what your plan is when a dragon shows up. Incantation? Dragon'll cast faster than you can. Glamour? Well, you can sneak up on it, but you probably won't be able to hurt it. Revision? Lots of things you could do with revision, but it's not likely you can cast fast enough that you won't run into the same problem as Incantation. Negation? I'm not even sure if Negation works on dragon magic. Still have the problem of speed. Astrology? Well, Astrology will probably be helpful, but I doubt it can take down a dragon by itself. Mastery? Only one person has ever mastered a dragon. Enchantment might be useful if you prepared enough stuff ahead of time. And then you have Gates, which is known for effectiveness already. The Gates lore implies pretty heavily that the true masters of Gates don't have to work very hard to build an army. There are at LEAST three dragons around campus in year one. Probably a few more than that, although it's hard to say. Given the danger of a single lone dragon, studying Gates suddenly sounds a lot more tempting when you think about having to deal with multiple.
  3. Obviously the skill is Plasma Physics(no really that stuff is difficult when you start really getting into it). Having made use of the NEWSPHINX in my latest playthrough, I seriously wonder what the Malice skill is actually good for. Get like a handful of branches for Puzzles, but Dispassion, Patience, and Gambling almost never come up, it seems like, and there is not much actually malicious about any of the stuff they let you do. You can do much much more harm with any of the pillars, really, than Malice. It really has almost nothing to do with really genuinely malicious actions at all!
  4. Wait wait wait, so what you are saying is that I need to become the Familiar of one of the other students? Or are you suggesting that I engage in a familiar bond with Diavesque, since hey, that'd probably work, even if it is a terrible terrible idea. The worst idea.
  5. I can go dig around in a bunch of the familiar adventures, but a fair number of them will have branches unlocked with one or more of the various casting subskills(incantation, glamour methods, negation) and in at least one case there is a certain familiar who has a Gates branch in their adventure. I entirely forget which familiar that WAS, though. Most of the results of these involve the familiars doing spellcasting. I'm pretty sure that when Year 2 comes out I'm going to do new runthroughs for any actual characters I intend to use in Year 2, so when trying to dig up new lore and do adventures I haven't done yet, which is mostly what I've been doing lately, it's usually more interesting to me to have a lot of different skills available to me than to take Revision/Glamour/Incantation/Astrology/Negation as my classes when most of those are much easier to pick up. Probably I'll send some characters into Year 2 with a bunch of magic classes, though.
  6. I taught myself the invisibility spells. Most of the time I don't even take classes in most of the pillars anymore, since they are a lot easier to be Informed of than some of the other classes, and being informed of subskills is one of the only things I find classes to actually be useful for. Probably that will change when year 2 is finally released, but for now most of my characters end up in classes like Rhetoric or History instead of Glamour or Incantation. I WISH they taught me actual spells in class. Then maybe I would have an excuse to go! Instead I end up skipping something like 300 of the class slots in a year. Get some detentions too, but a lot fewer timeslots than classes would have taken. How do Familiars cast spells without a wand? Is wandless casting a skill humans can learn? How does it differ from the way Dragons cast? Why was the Dragon Emperor such a jerk?
  7. I just don't know why they have to reprimand me for doing a better job of preparing my clique for exams than the teachers do. I don't know how they can even tell whether I'm skipping class or not, since I frequently have Hide and Move Silently skills at 10, attributes 20 or better, a chance of discovery of often -10%, and I probably know at least two invisibility spells based on adventures. How are they catching me at this?
  8. Oh, I meant more in a 'what are the consequences of having taught half a dozen students Mastery' sense, it definitely seems to WORK.
  9. Also, what happened to all the old Icanicix and Kazus classrooms/common rooms/etc., and did they have their own 'Legacy of Many Towers' 'Seeking Friends in Hidden Places' style skills?
  10. What happens if I use Train Your Company to teach my whole Clique Mastery? So far it seems like nothing happens. Also I'm 70% sure I could teleport Joana to the moon. There is a 29% chance that she would end up elsewhere, though. Could I use Gates to make my own Dragon? Obviously I could use Mastery to enslave one, but can I make one? I really hope Gates unlocks some adventures in Year 2. It is my favorite.
  11. Are 11 point/12/13 point relationships with other students likely to do things in Year 2 and beyond? Why does Joana always end up in a Clique with a character I actually like and want in my own Clique? Why can't I just teleport her to the moon? My hope is that Familiars will be more useful in Year 2, not that I have a problem really with how they are now, just a little underwhelming and also I don't get to actually feel like my familiar is important because they don't really do anything visible unless you get lucky with what familiar you get. Will they ever get to cast spells? If I make my Familiar a master of all the pillars, including the forbidden ones, will they be able to do something with that? Is there anything interesting that can be teased about familiars in Year 2? Does having attributes at 30 make me a crazy person?
  12. Obviously Zoology is intentionally flawed in its curriculum, because it would be too useful for Gates users otherwise. When creating monsters, it's vital to have an understanding of the phemes of differing anatomies. Scales, or feathers, or the traits of worms and insects, all theoretically very useful. CONSPIRACY. I will defeat you, Academagia. I will defeat you and also all the Dragons.
  13. So if you can Negate death, even if only briefly, what else can you use Negation to do? Can you negate things like movement, or heat, or light? What about doing the opposite? Can you negate life?
  14. Make items less useless in future years. Money, too. Right now the only items worth anything are items that give attribute boosts, or that inform you of skills or give you some skill steps. But even if you have one of those items, it usually isn't worth finding out what they do, because most items are trash. Money is useless because there are maybe 2000 pims worth of stuff that is actually worth paying for in the game. And because money is useless, Orthography is also useless, since all you seem to be able to do with it is make an item worth more money. The Candies of the Gnawing Void are the best item, though.
  15. Oh, just remembered this bit-Gates should have a couple adventures linked to knowing it in Year 2(or maybe later, don't know how good you have to be at Gates to travel between worlds) or something-I'm thinking of the bits of Gates lore regarding using it to access other worlds/dimensions. You can do basically anything when writing adventures in other dimensions. Gates is probably the coolest sphere of magic in the game. Also, that bit at the end of the year where you can say that Gates is the best magic, and it shouldn't be proscribed, etc. etc. ? I'd like to see stuff regarding making Gates...unproscribed make it into future years. Benevolent Gates wizard is a pretty interesting route to take. Or it should be, but Year 1 doesn't have a lot of use for Gates.
