  1. Actually, I just thought of something. Just how high up is Elumia? Can one actually see a curved horizon? I imagine that can't be so simply because of the thin atmosphere. Is it Mt. Everest high? Even that would put a damper on the physical activities even if people were raised on air that thin. Especially if they climbed a mountain on top of that. Or is the magic that holds Elumia having affect on the air too? It would certainly make some sense if the maelstrom had an effect on that, but it's a little hard to wrap one's head on what would be required to do every bit of that. (in addition to the whole island raising thing)
  2. Regarding your training, I suspect that it's not easily provable that you aren't up to mischief, so unless you have permission to be in a specific area at that time, they won't go easy on you. I feel it to be more of a general rule that is inflexible out of necessity, and not a discretion against you specifically. I recommend looking up a thesaurus regarding your diablo issue. And good luck with the smell. I'd try negation (does seem to be my char's favorite pillar, oddly) and failing that, get some perfume and hope for the best.
  3. Haha! I'd just as soon use dye. That seems to be much simpler. And about gates, I know of the Great Gate of the Academagia having been there for a while.
  4. So I guess changing my hair color to deep blue forever is no longer on the table.
  5. I'd like to point out I only pressed post once, and it still did a doublepost.

  6. Thanks! It didn't seem to work, but then I realized it was a delayed-action type! Sure enough, it magically disappeared soon after! ;) A certain someone disapproved of the method of negation, but I reminded that someone that Spambots are not living things, so the effect is somewhat different than say negating a magic troll's handywork.

  7. Since the Legate has no profile comments yet. Something told me "Why not say hello?"

    Hello. :)

  8. Well, it would greatly increase the mischieviousness factor by quite a bit if it was common knowledge for students. I'm sure that as well rounded the Academagia is, there must be more than a few schools that have a specialized focus beyond the general education you could expect there. The limits of the jack of all trades.... Of course I doubt that the Academagia's courses are lacking, so much as not willing to go into niche fields. Anyway, it'd be impossible for us to tell until we get to see all of it. And now for a completely unrelated question: Is that really your voice in those youtube tutorials, Legate?
  9. I'm sure that all spells have some "residue" but on average, how long does it last? I'd hate to think that they could trace that fireball I blasted Phillipe with today, (and every other day for that matter) when we're in year 5....
  10. Also, would the penalty be more severe in a case of someone being discovered knowing some spells (say skill level 7-8) despite having never used them, and being found out by a fluke, compared to a 1-2 skill level and bragging about it or even maliciously using that slight knowledge?
  11. I also would liken it to guns in real-world. When a person uses it for the wrong reasons, bam! Punish time! you don't take them away from everyone else! Of course the stakes are higher than a gun with mastery, so the punishment should be higher too. There are fates worse than death. I say a person using mastery for evil ends will live out the rest of their lives (or a sizable portion, it depends) being mastered into building a tetris wall that magically destroyed itself over and over again,,, and they'd be fully aware. Now THAT would be some discouragement!
  12. Well, if anything, this shows that even if you are not directly controling a person, you really can get similar effects and identical results between the two. I was not big on the idea of learning mastery, but after this, I think that the ban on mastery lies in a fear that "maybe someday someone will probably manipulate us" but for the most part, magic can already do this. To ban a specific type because it can be misused is like saying "Oh, someone MIGHT hurt me." that is like saying that the guy next door knows kung fu, so he MIGHT try to use it to take advantage of me. Well, I understand that mastery is more pronounced than that, but the same principle applies. I would rather live with the risk of being manipulated (which still is a real danger with a ban) and have the knowledge and understanding to prevent it, than live in a society that tells me that they can't trust me. And if somebody is found to abuse that trust, then lay the hammer down. I am now completely pro-mastery. (And really on the fence with Gates.)
  13. It does say muslim countries. I can understand the overall picture of glammour, but it annoys me to not understand the innerworkings of something. I suppose by actually seeing and using it in context, should clear it up in year 2. In the meantime I need to rewrite part of that adventure.
  14. Brain.... Hurts.... Basically, Mastery (in this case)deals with actually changing a person's perception of you, even removing it Glammour deals with only illusions on an object(in this case)-not actual perception, and thus such illusions can be seen (or not seen) by everyone off the bat as opposed to mastering each individual individually. makes sense. They're actually seeing nothing, as opposed to thinking that they see nothing. I also understand why in this case glammour would be quite easier too. But now you've opened up another box, how does one "seem" to be unimportant? You give yourself an illusion that gives off an aura of unimportance? it changes body language? Concepts!? ARGH! I can grasp the overall concept of glammour, but... I'm gonna lay down now....
  15. I get that, but how does one alter perception to no perception? I guess I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head on this. I want to have a morally ambiguous mastery exit on the adventure step I'm writing, but on the glammour issue, I can see changing superficial appearance of hair color, and the mastery side of controling people to not perceive you is clear, but I guess my question, refined is: how can one merely alter perception so that you are not perceived at all? To me it seems not possible to alter something to nothingness. I know it is glammour and superficial, but could you revise an apple to nothingness? Perception is still something, how do you remove it? Are you following me? It seems to me that if it is removed completely then it must be mastery. Ugh... magic foundation lessons... At least it should provide good conversation and insight into mastery/glammour relationship
  16. So long story short, Imagine that there was an item of great value somewhere, and furthermore, imagine that this item was being sought after by a large quantity of students. Now imagine that you are the only person who knows that this coin was there and you needed to prevent people from seeing you aquire it. (lest they aquire it from you.) Now imagine that just by just by heading in that direction, the possiblility arises that someone will catch on to what you are doing. The spell I'm thinking of to get around this would prevent anybody from noticing you. ie, even if you were standing right in front of a tree you burnt down and people extinguished the remains two feet away, they wouldn't notice you. Not just invisibility, but all senses. I'm dealing with pesky familiars and super-keen senses here. Is that glammour, or mastery? Edit, I imagine that both could do this, but, I guess I'm trying to establish in my mind what would be the difference?
  17. Well, I don't think year 2 needs any of the old tracks, but if you do make one return, my vote is for "from the New World" which is one that I had heard beforehand and nearly fainted from the utter "amazingness" of it. And if by chance in year 2, you decide that you need a battle theme for duels, my reccomendation is for Vivaldi's Flute Concerto in G minor 'La Notte',
  18. Wise men have said:

    "Forgiveness is divine"

    But seriously...

Why pay full price for late pizza?

  19. Good point. I might just use that idea yet, but an unfortunate fairy has already become the tool for this time.. hehehehe...
  20. Well, in that case, I'll think up something else. No need to rock the boat, I've got a few other ideas.
  21. Question: I'm attempting to think up a situational-based prank on a student. Would it be reasonable to expect a mundane plant like poison ivy to exist near the edges of the athletic fields? Are the groundskeepers just on top of all that? It is much harder to write a full adventure than a one off event, but I'm slowly getting there! Once I'm done with adventure #1 I'll post what I have for critique and then focus on #2.
  22. Well, it would almost be a waste to use all of the most epic works on the first year. It would be better to save at least some of them for much later.
  23. On a completely unrelated subject, I discovered something while looking around for planetary-themed material for Mr. Pebbles' adventure. Now I'm not the largest classical-type music fan and as proof of that I only knew two tracks of the year 1 list, but I just found Gustav Holst's 'The Planets' and if I might so humbly suggest that some of the "planets" would make an excelent score for a future year, if not year 2. Of course I pretty much loved all of year 1's music so I don't really think that there's much to worry about, just a little 'nudge-nudge' if you will....
  24. Thank you! And may I say that you guys REALLY have an insanely well thought out world! I shudder to think of the time required to reach that level of planning...
  25. alright, so, I was wondering if there was anything in lore to support this.. or if I could have the liberty to write it into the lore. Basically, I want to mention a (relatively minor) alignment between two planets (not Cyve) and the sun. I would like this particular alignment (between any planets.. it doesn't matter which) to be associated with cooperation and/or finding things. This is the theme of the adventure I'm writing (although with Mr. pebbles It's almost a parody.) and I would like to know if this is okay, or if there are any specific rules that I need to be aware of for this.
