Game crash upon trying to start new game

I broke my long standing policy of never buying a game without a demo but I really liked the looks of this.

 

My problem - when I start the game it gets to the opening screen just fine but it bombs out if I try to start a new game. Message is "System error occurred. Application will be terminated." This looks like a Windows error box.

 

I have already installed the MS .NET 4.0 stand alone installer, updated the game with patch 17, turned off all other running programs, and am running as administrator from the .exe file.

 

Specs:

 

Windows Vista Home SP2

 

computer model - HP p6100e

processor - AMD 7550 Dual Core 2.5 Ghz

memory - 4 gigs

 

anti-virus - Avast!

 

Any ideas?

I am having the same problem...I downloaded the game via Impulse today...

 

I have Windows 7 and computer is less than 3 months old...

New computer? Make sure you have the latest .net framework and try running the game in administrator mode.

For Fire6, it can probably be very easily fixed:

 

Please navigate to your Academagia folder, find Academagia.exe, right-click on it, and choose: 'Run as Administrator.'

 

That should correct the issue.
