  1. Dani; It's unlikely we would do it, but it is possible. In most cases you should be able to export a Y1 character, even with mods.
  2. Dani; Only that you can select attitudes to the Class, which tailor what you get out of it slightly. It's not a huge impact, but will help focus on what you'd like to focus on. It can be Stressful, though.
  3. Rhi; Almost certainly yes, although probably the matter would be given to one of the ecclesiastical courts.
  4. Rhi; "The almost universally held belief is that Dragons can't use Astrology in any meaningful way, since the ultimate source of Astrological insight is the Gods - and the one side defies surveillance by and communication with the other. (Dragons are believed to use Gates to communicate with... other extraplanar entities for information and pseudo-astrological effects, mind.) So if someone claimed to see a Dragon doing pure Astrology, it almost certainly just wouldn't be believed."
  5. Dani; We're still thinking about a final DLC. I don't think we've entirely made up our minds yet. You certainly can mod Y2- if you export all the content, you could 're-create' Y1 using the engine, yes. I wouldn't say that it's any easier to find Locations, but it's a bit more directed in Y2- so, if there's something you're after, you'll find it easier to get to.
  6. Dani & Rhi; "There's no penalty on the player for leaning heavily on Adventures in Y2 - but, remember, the *outcomes* of Adventures (as they continue into Y2) are not necessarily straightforward, and may ultimately turn out to be good or bad from your perspective. We can't comment on Attribute except to reinforce that while still useful, they are dramatically less important in Y2. Without going into the specifics of a Black Sheep's summer experience, you might reasonably expect it to reflect the burden of being in an unfriendly, unsupportive environment (at least when you first go "home"), but good things can come out of it. In a mechanical sense, you won't be saddled with nothing but negative effects. A person who offered meaningful looks into Draconic behavior through Astrology could probably expect to be publicly celebrated - and maybe even offered employment - if she, he, or they reported what they'd seen promptly to the closest temple, Guard, or Academy staff member. Dragons have the uncanny ability to evade Astrological monitoring, for the most part, unless they interact with large numbers of humans in extremely disruptive ways; they've spent centuries learning to blur the perceptions of human seers (and perhaps even the Gods as well)."
  7. It's not usually physical coordinates entered, but if you did... well, no comment.
  8. Rhi; Not as an official cross-over, no. But Gates could lead you anywhere, so...
  9. Rhi; "Yes, but there are protective Glamours all around the Academy that would keep you from ever hearing or reading its name (or their names). Carcosa is only a Gate away...."
  10. S; "Yep! Before the story officially started, your Colleges had already taken you through the rites and bindings necessary to get you access to your dorms and the Venalicium (or, at least, certain sections), etc. Magically speaking, joining a College is actually a reasonably big deal - another reason why you don't see people casually going back and forth between them."
  11. Dani & Metis; "1. The family is not well known at all; Culibratha himself was a legendary figure, but there's not an official record in the known world to suggest that he had children. If Culiman's claims are to be believed, there are a couple of possible explanations: first, simply, is that Culibratha was one of the greatest Mastery mages known to Man, and if he wanted to make his biological family invisible and/or forgotten, there's almost no one else in history better qualified to get it done. The second is that it's not purely a line of blood descent, but a case where you have a line of masters adopting their most talented apprentices. Culiman's approach seems to support the latter hypothesis. Either way, it's the stuff of secret traditions, not international fame. (Though standing up on a park bench in Mineta and proclaiming yourself Culibratha's heir would still instantly attract the attention of the Guard.) As for Culibratha, the hidden histories suggest he actually came from the far north, not the Godsforsaken south - but he studied for a time under an order called the Silent Brothers somewhere in the Bassan-speaking world after escaping from forced servitude under the Ravenshield sometime early in the 14th century. Some of his correspondence is almost certainly contained (and we use the word "contained" specifically because it might well be unsafe to leave unguarded) in the Purple Academy's collections. 2. It wasn't possible to get adopted in Y1. But, we think a talented and determined Black Sheep is exactly the sort of person Culiman might consider a few years down the line. 3. As a general rule, "magical adoption" suggests either Astrological or Enchantment transformations, whereby the adoptee becomes "recognized" by a family's magical holdings and defenses. Guilds have similar rites, though they tend to be less... aggressive."
  12. Dani; These teams are separate, but VB will definitely need to settle into a rhythm (whatever that might be!) Our next is intended to be Year 2, though.
  13. Mouse; Yep! We are all still here, but slow and steady is the rule. Thanks for asking!
  14. S; Wow! Even more important to support them, then. Definitely will pick this up today, thanks for letting me know!
  15. S; That's on my wishlist- I'm sure they'll improve as they go.
  16. Rhi; "1. It's hard to pin down, but he's got a hint of an accent that people find hard to place - and, of course, he knows almost nothing about what you might call Minetan popular culture, from ballads to Professor CogSpring, than most. Though that may just be because he hardly cares. He's assumed to be from some out-of-the-way Merilien court; nobody can fault his manners (when he tries), and he's certainly educated, but he just doesn't come across as local. 2. As far as official Academy policy is concerned, vocalizations in magic is... well, kind of vulgar when it isn't absolutely essential, so it's actually relatively rare among the student body. Out in the wider world, the utility of some verbal techniques, combined (in some cases) with sheer showmanship makes it much more common - so much so that charlatans in some parts of the world can get by purely by shouting "magic words" and gesturing with sticks."
  17. Rhi; It comes from the historical meaning of the word, which is an association of small merchants, iirc.
  18. S; "It would probably depend on how much of the crashed one was salvageable, or at least available to be studied, and how many Vernin (and other) classmates could be dragged in to help. It would be extraordinarily difficult as a one-student job, but with - say - Caspar helping on designs, Cordelia on the fundamental propulsion systems, Marc assisting with really fine enchanting work, and Catherine sharing some Chard library insights on the original Red Ships... well, you might just have a chance. And Professor Alazzo would then brag about it for the rest of his life. ;)"
  19. S; Yes, if you include magic then there are many examples of crafts which exceed the abilities of modern time.
  20. Schwarzbart; "Industrialization isn't really widespread, even in the northeast, and the technological advances that we associate with that age are not yet beyond what a tinker or artisan might create. But in terms of technological artifacts devised and constructed without the use of magic, much of what you'd find in Mineta (without employing Gates) is parallel to the tools and toys of Renaissance Europe."
