Summer School

The large majority of this game's players it would appear got it originally a year ago (I just discovered it a couple of days ago on Impulse myself). Year two apparently won't be out until Xmas 'next year'. That is a long time for 'me' to wait, the guy who's just come into the game now, let alone those who got it a year ago.

From what I have read, there is enough content in year one that a single character is doing well to see a third of it. It occurs to me that it would not take a lot of work from the coders to create a simple extension to the existing year one game that added another half year of classes (choose three new courses maybe?), calling it 'Summer School'. It would not involve new material, just the option to continue working on existing characters.

I realize that it might bring up balance issues with Year Two. However the essential skills are for all intents capped right now, characters would not grow significantly more 'powerful' by having an extra half year to play with, just more flexible.

I for one, start to loose interest in a game when my character gets near to the end. Having that extra depth with which to pursue adventures rather than building up the stats needed to pass exams with flying colors would add a lot of legs to the game for me.

Also, I expect that you folks could use a little dose of extra cash half way between your old release and your new one over a year away. Having a 'Summer School' option available as a download for a very reasonable sum ($5.00?) would certainly warrant a bit of time from a coder to make it happen. I expect very few of us would balk at forking out five bucks for something that let us rekindle a favored character, even if it contained no new content, as there is plenty in the existing game.

For those of us who finish really heavily min maxed characters in a single marathon day of paying, I was ready for the second game a week after I bought the game. First 6 days were teasing out every little secret of the game to be assured that I didn't min max incorrectly. It might be cool to add a summer game where you can do adventures with friends or your familiar, or do some extra-curriculars, which really cause problems with year two, since you wouldn't be able to boost attributes intentionally or spam the sphinx. And it would allow players to do adventures without feeling like they were wasting actions. Also it would let me train and hang out with my familiar. In the current context of the game I consider familiars useless garbage. Why would I raise my skills on a familiar when you can't boost their attributes and I have better skilling actions on my character? I could raise my characters skills 2x-4x faster than I could familiar skills so what does my familiar achieve exactly?

Familiar give 1/2 of theyr skill in addition to your Skill at any roll so its usfull to specialise and with improved Familiar Handling this become interesting.

(I have at last Wits at 2 for all my familiar because this add 1 to my roll with the Sphinx)

ah, i didn't know that. i guess you could add some okay bonuses that way. however i have found that in cases where my skills are maxed, the difference between the requirement and my skill is like 10-20 on adventures. and for the sphinx i actually don't like it much, i have so many skills maxed that it is constantly giving me less than 4 effects per action. but i guess since the game caps skills for various years having a familiar might be useful. of course this value is entirely based on the arbitrary skill caps put in place by the creators.

Try doing Ilaro's main quest adventure with the last step being a skill roll of 27, 28, or 29. Mutter, mutter. Even with 10 skill and 10 attribute, that's annoying. If you don't have Cleanse and Remake (which is the uber spell of uber), familar skills is one of the only ways you're going to hit that goal.

...I think I've ranted about that three times so far today. Hm.

i use a spell that adds +4 to a skill or two, i forget, and pop it 2-3 times. that puts me over on most skill rolls. i did the main quest as the pirates i think.

Pfft, the Pirates final rolls are only 20, though. Those are easy as anything- you don't need spells.

It's Ilaro who's mean; I think those are some of the highest adventure rolls still in the game (most cap out at 25). Curse you Illarooooooo hateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee where is my stat boost hateeeeee. His also has the problem that while one does check Material Knowledge (which is the one most sane people will go for unless they specialized), the other three check Spy, Espionage, and War, so skill boosting isn't as good, as most spells will only give you a subskill raise... you'd have to cast a 2-4 raising spell generally four times (assuming 10 already in both attribute (which will be the case for INT, but probably not LCK) and skill) for three skills. Because Illaro is a cheapstake jerk who quite possibly hates me. And fun. Illarroooo. :E

Um. /cough

Even more amusing, his doesn't even add a memory. So I have this horrible picture of going in to Year 2 and it not even realizing I did it. All for the crummy Escape Artist boost...

Oh, yay!

Tell him he owes me a letter as soon as summer school starts. 'Dear Katelyn or whatever your name is: thanks for breaking me out of jail and totally saving my bacon every other adventure step. Have a few thousand phemes I stole of Orsi when I was bugging him and the crown of brilliance (wrapped in careful linen so you don't kill yourself with it) back. Be careful, it has a Concealment value of 13. Love, Ilaro. PS: Can I use your house for a hideout for a week or two this summer? Think I pissed off the Mineta Captain again. It'll be just like old times, adventure and all! PPS: Don't bother writing back, I'm already on my way."

...Wait, never mind. Don't want the letter. :(
