Helios
Alright, I'm well and truly into it (having just begun Week 5 of my first year at Academagia) and have a bunch of questions! For background: Stats: Charm/4, Intelligence/3, Luck/3, all else 1 Classes: Astrology, Dialectic, Glamour, Grammar, Revision, Rhetoric School: Heidi Here are some questions, and I'm sure I'll have more soon! How do I explore? I've found some places just by going to class and I think by happenstance, but I don't see an Explore action. Tips on adventures? So far my adventures have been...less than successful. Its difficult to puzzle out what skills you'll need beforehand. Studying vs Skill level? If I'm understanding the note from last years student correctly my parent skill level (and studying to increase it via increasing sub-skills at the library) is not enough to get a good grade. How do I then check what my study level is, and do I just study at the library to increase it? Why do places keep disappearing? For example studying at the library (starts with a V?) keeps appearing then disappearing as an option. Skipping class? Should I just be blowing off class and casting spells (if that increases your skills) / training / studying on my own? How to solve the puzzle? It seems impossible, I've tried a bunch of times and gotten my Puzzle skill to 5 but no dice! Thanks all!
Legate of Mineta
Helios; Some of these are strategy related, so I won't answer that, but otherwise: 1. You want the Explore Parent Skill- it unlocks at Level 1, if I remember correctly. 2. You don't need to Study at the Library, although that *is* more efficient- you can use the regular old Study Action for that. You can see your Study Level in the Skill tab, next to the Parent Skill- it's the one with the book icon. 4. I believe you mean why does that Ability keep disappearing? They have semi-random cooldowns, if so. Just give it a day or two, and you'll see it once more for selection.
Metis
1. The Explore action you gain from training your Explore parent skill to rank 1. If you lack enough subskills to train it that high, train some School Survival skills (specifically, Curiosity). 2. Unfortunately this is something you'll gain by experience and meta-gaming shenanigans. Otherwise the best advice I have is to try and get Seven Favors (Spell) or another form of re-rolls, but that's...a bit of an advanced strategy, I think. 3. The book icon has your study level, and you want to study that in the Venalicium Library. Or possibly another location, but the Venalicium is a great place to start. Highly recommend. For exams, you want a minimum of Study level 5 and parent skill rank 5 for midterms, and both at 10 for finals. "Minimum", mind. If you want to excel, you'll need to do better. 4. The Venalicium, and yes, they disappear randomly. I would recommend studying on Thursday or Friday, so that even if the cooldown hits you're sure to have the library available during the weekend. 5. Ideally, yes, but that's more of an advanced tactic. For newcomers I recommend not skipping at all, except for the Cheimare and Kaliri classes. 6. The Block Puzzle requires Luck/Puzzles v. 17 to solve, which is quite a tall order. You'll need a buffing spell to hit that early game (especially with a Puzzles rank as relatively low as 5). I'd recommend leaving it for later, but if you must get it sooner...here's some options: If you're in Revision, use From Novice to Master (Spell). If you're in Arithmetic, even better, use Mathematical Acuity (Spell). If you have neither you can look at getting Intense Focus (Spell) or training Revision in the Manetele. Helios
Thanks Legate & Metis, really appreciate the advice! I do have one new question - when do the buffs my clique members give me appear? I have Neta Xemutre and Silke Niederstatter in my clique but don't see the +1 to charm or fitness. I currently have a relationship of 9 with both of them, do I need to pass some threshold (10, 15, 20?) to get the bonuses?
Legate of Mineta
Helios; That is actually a bug that's currently being worked on- normally, you'd see the bonus happen that day.
Metis
For future reference, relationships with students are normally capped at 10. It can be increased, but 13 is the practical limit (and, rare exceptions aside, it is hard to get it even that hight...albeit that's for a good reason ). Legate of Mineta
Also for future reference...good things *may* happen if you have a Relationship greater than 10 at the start of Y2...

freespace2dotcom
if only there was a uniform way to increase any student past 11. *sigh*
