A few in game questions

I can see why Gates magic would be considered one of the more powerful pillars. Lots of potential there.

One wonders if one of the deeper reasons why it was banned was so that those in power wouldn't have to worry about those pesky mages getting too out of line.

In any case it's a shame. Though a thought just bubbled into my head.

The lore states that (part of) the reason why Gates was banned was because people couldn't replicate or fully understand the abilities of some of the masters of Gates.

Is this because of superstition, believing that such mages must draw on some unholy power, or were the works of such masters were too dangerous to emulate incorrectly?

Also, I get the notion that even the names of the masters of old are suppressed. If one of them happened to have written an autobiography, which was not even magically oriented, would that have been destroyed? And if so by whom? Either the Governing body of mages, or the now underground Gates movement?

And to tack on one last thing, why DID so many of the old works of the masters get destroyed by the underground movement? Was it to better ensure that if it was believed that if there were no junior admirers practicing proscribed magic on the surface, the hunters would stop looking? That's about the only reason I can think of but I doubt if they were destroyed so much as "borrowed".

(Also, FYI the main Academagia page news hasn't been updated for DLC 15 yet. ;) )

Leoshi;

D'oh!

"1) What kind of swords do we get to train with if there was a swordsmanship skill?"

I can't comment yet.

"2) Are there any other kinds of combat skills we may learn in future years?"

If we can, plenty. :)

"3) Do we have opera singers in the school? I can imagine Professor Chastellain selecting some kids for an opera and in a poignant scene they sing this."

I think there are probably some Students interested in opera, but there is unlikely to be a true singer among the Students. That's an entirely separate, and time consuming, course of study! :)

There there! :) We'll both be ignored by the Legate every other time together! To cheer you up I'll let you in on something! ;)

I suspect that, while fooling around, I discovered the reason why humans can't be familiars to dragons.

In short, in order to use magic, all except the masters need [redacted], and in order to get that you need a familiar. BUT!! Not just anything can work as a familiar, it has to fit certain prerequisites, namely it can't be [redacted] And possibly others I am yet unaware of. Anyway, humans as a result are poor choices of familiar for dragons, or any magic user for that matter.

A repost of my question, since the Legate seems to be forgetting everyone constantly :)

What were the other races' attitude toward the dragons, both during and after the Captivity? I mean the likes of Minotaur and Goblins and stuff. If they are treated as a part of humanity, what about the more alien stuff like the Fey?

Considering I am the only one who was not forgotten, I'm going to have to fess up. I'm really sorry about it though. Even I realize that I'm probably the last person who should have access to the mental control of another person.

In my defence, it was ...probably not on purpose.

In a completely unrelated, innocent and hypothetical question, how hard would it be to master the professors in Academagia? Year 3? Year 4?

I guess now is the time to reveal the truth. It was I who mastered Madhatt and in turn uses him to master Legate! Why you ask? Because I ran the Thread that archives all these questions all into one easy accessible place for all to review! But this place... THIS PLACE!! It has reached over a hundred pages of questions and keep growing!

I am slowly realizing that I will trapped into archiving this forever and I am getting desperate for FREEDOM! So Legate has been mastered to provide more and more [Redated] answers and misses more and more questions! It's a perfect plan that let me goes into vacation mode FOREVER and none of you can stop me!

Hmm. Note to self: Make sure to take at least two Negation courses next year.

Say Legate, How does one use the Dispel Spell? I know I have it because it's on my list of magic available, but when I go to the cast a spell list, all I have there is Beginner's Dispel.

And it'll be useful beyond Y2, I'll bet.

Speaking of useful spells... I've got to say that my last playthrough was the first where I actually put forth a fair bit of effort into casting. I've a few questions regarding magic in general.

I found the description of the Corner Sight spell interesting. Is this spell a result of cross pillar casting, or is it a normal one that just borrows a few phemes?

Given my desire to be an omnidisipliarian, I would like to know if that sort of thing couldn't be considered a specialization in its own way? Won't a mage like me be capable of specializing in spells that single, or even double pillar specialists wouldn't touch? (Even though Corner Sight seems Oddly tied to language skills)

Also, I do have an item or two which I presume is so far above my character's head that in Y1 they're not especially useful. (The Sword of Kush Comes to mind.) Will such items become more useful in the future? Provided that we have the skills to make them so, of course?

Oh, and one last thing. Can you give us a Y1 level non-redacted explantion to the familiar bonding I see on the screen? Doing the familiar adventure raises Familiar Kinship which I would guess is basically friendship and has nothing to do with magic per se. I haven't really noticed how to increase the "bond" very well....

Hmmmm. No comment.

Yep. :)

All, I imagine, will- but perhaps not quite in the ways that you are expecting.

Bond, the magical connection between Master and Familiar is the result of a deeper understanding between you and your Familiar. It's not well understood how this magic works, although it is certainly magical in nature. Some have theorized it is a form of Glamour. Others view it as Revision. Still others believe it is an unclassified form of magic. Who can say? :)

Regarding Bonds; One word: Mastery. Mystery solved. :P

Are the collage (Aranaz as example) buildings inspired from any real-life buildings? (if so, which? :)) And, if not, could you find a picture? (sounds lazy I know)

Imagining a huge university is difficult to me - perhaps partly since Copenhagen University is somewhat scattered throughout most of Copenhagen, and knowing how each collage might look can only help :)

What materials are the Academagia's uniforms made of?

I suppose being magical in nature, the school could make them be just about anything, though I suspect it would be of a naturally occuring sturdy material. From the pictures I'd say silk but that would seem expensive. (though who knows)

Also, Given the setting, how often is colored clothing encountered? I would imagine that most commoners wouldn't waste money on magic for color, so that would limit them to dyes that could be cheaply obtained. What, if any, colors would be seen outside the nobility?

And how would one recognize a wizard? Oh sure if they're flailing a wand or something it's a given. But clearly mages come in all shapes, sizes, and age brackets. Does the average mage tend to wear certain robes? Or are they dressed plainly as often as not? Are there particular mannerisms that mages tend to display?

Freespace;

The uniforms are made of wool. Colored clothing is found throughout society in the City of Mineta, and relatively common in the rural villages for a person's 'best' clothing. Most bold or bright colors can be found, and none are exclusive to the nobility, unlike real Europe.

Wizards do not adopt a uniform code or dress, and sometimes it's not possible to know, at a glance, if someone is a mage or no. Familiars and wands are generally giveaways, though. :)

Legate! More questions! :)

1. Given than Mineta is very old, and has structures buried under more recent constructions, And also that in some spots the islands are not very deep, are there structures in Mineta that go all the way to the bottom?

2. When going to the "Boost in Gates" ability location, which I no longer remember, the event that triggers has an exit for Gates where it's said that the phemes "burn like no others" Is this merely artistic license?

3. Have you ever seen the Lost Room miniseries? Good stuff. While most of the "objects" could be reproduced in this setting using various pillars, I am mostly interested in The Key.

Would Gates magic be sufficient to reproduce the effect? (Indeed, you'd have to almost create your own mini-dimension) Also, ignoring that it would almost certainly be an illegally created item, would it's use be considered illegal? Since you would technically be activating a Gates object every time, or would it be?

4. This has actually been bugging me for some time now, but what type of cheeses are common in this era. This is oddly important to me for some reason, I swear. I can tolerate swiss, cheddar and mozzarella but "american" cheese certainly wouldn't be there.

5. And for the vegetarian students in the game, would they consider dairy foods to violate their ethics?

6. Attempting to use my logic skill here. ;) If the language spoken primarily at the Academagia (and upper city) is Renaglian, which is the "Lingua franca" of sorts, and this language is the fantasy equivalent of Latin, then the Elumian Language is based on...What? Also, I assume that the ingame text which we see as Latin refers to Elumian.. I'm trying to wrap my head around this..

Semi-artistic. When you convert your Palette into Phemes, the Spell 'burns' its fuel. What this burning looks like is dependent on the Spell, and Phemes used. Some mages perfect these combinations so that their Spells appear in a burst of sunlight, or butterflies, or fire. It's very time-consuming to do this, though.

I haven't, so I can't answer. Can you describe more about what's happening?

"4. This has actually been bugging me for some time now, but what type of cheeses are common in this era. This is oddly important to me for some reason, I swear. I can tolerate swiss, cheddar and mozzarella but "american" cheese certainly wouldn't be there."

All cheese is artisanal in this period, so it wouldn't fit any of the classifications we know. Certainly American would not be available, as it's processed.

"5. And for the vegetarian students in the game, would they consider dairy foods to violate their ethics?"

Girars, I believe, might not. I'll have to ask!

This is not quite correct. Renaglian is not the lingua franca, it is the language of the Renaglians, and corresponds to Northern Italian. Elumian is the lingue franca, was the language of the Empire, and corresponds to Latin.

2. Does this strictly have to do with the combinations, or can it be tweaked with to suit the caster?

3.Oddly I feel dejavu here. Have I asked this before? Meh, basically it's having a regular old key, that, when put into a lock, will turn the door into a gateway to an extradimensional motel room. :) When the door is closed after entering, you can then open the door and where it leads you is any place you visualize. (So long as there's a door there. I mean a regular old door, nothing that slides or anything.)

6. I see, That makes a lot more sense. I remember you saying that they mostly spoke "fantasy latin so I got confused there. So the characters primarily speak... A fantasy version of... what then? Italian? no... *headache*
